This just makes sense, especially with the whole possible prothean DLC (which they say was scrapped, but who knows). At some point in ME3, we will travel to the Citadel and discover the prothean scientists from ME1. At least some of them will have been kept alive through cryogenic statis, or they will have left notes discovering their findings. They will say that they were either working on a way to destroy the Reapers or they found out a way to destroy them.
We will recruit all of the other main races and use this technology to destroy them. Hopefully we will get to go back to Ilos as well, and perhaps talk to Vigil.

Gathering all races and space ships for a space battle sounds way too straight forward and predictable. If it boils down to that, then...worse ending ever.
