@Brenon - so thats when observation comes into play I'm assuming? And sorry for not using quotes, my iPad won't let me for some reason. :/

Yep, it's easy to know (from data) that someone did something. Knowing *why* they did it is incredibly difficult. If we need to know that's when we start looking at forums, play/focus tests, personal experience... etc.

"Bioware are, by their own admission and in their own words, focused on getting a larger audience. They're not interested in "insightful" or "thoughtful" fans, they're interested in getting MOAR fans. I believe that, contrary to Brenan's claim, a large loud outcry from the fanbase here will carry more weight than a small, thoughtful, insightful one. This forum may only represent 1% of the fans, but if 90% of that 1% all agree on something then that is s
statistically relevent."

Tell me - what are you more likely to listen to? Ten people talking to you in a polite, thoughtful manner, or 100 people screaming like whiney, spoiled children?

If I want to "broaden my audience" or whatever, I'll listen to the 100 screamers.

Ah yes, Ashley. An optional squadmate, alledgedly back in ME3 for more boring poety and angsty daddy-issues.

We have dismissed those claims.

Ignoring children will only make them whine and cry louder.

Casey already confirmed more squad armor options awhile back... yet you complainers kept freaking out and ignoring this.

Well at least you finally got around to making a point.

Depends, when people asked for NG+ they got it, this forum tipped the scales in it's favor. However, the vitriolic posting that has occured likely has the opposite effect, because volume dosen't equate to numbers. If the same 20 people post loudly and insultingly about something, I doubt the ME team will listen. But if there is a civil respectful discussion they are more likely to listen.

If you want them to take you seriously, show some civility and refrain from insulting comments or digs like the one you posted.

Sounds like a lot of you are used to throwing temper tantrums that you have the idea that is the only way to get things done.

You're not going to get anywhere in my place of business if you stomp your feet like that.

You're right, if it's the same people posting over and over then that won't work. But if it's a hundred different people, I think it will be noted, regardless of how they word their complaints. And telling the difference is easy enough.

Also, I don't expect them to take me seriously, not me personally on my own, regardless of how I post. I already explained that. But if I add my voice to that of a crowd, then I have a chance. As for me taking them seriously, that depends on what they write.

To OLC this would suggest that being 'loud and whiney' isn't as useful as you think. People can tell you they hate something, but unless they can get the 'why' across as well it's rather difficult for the devs to figure out how to solve the problem. It's similar to the TV series 'Lie to Me'  they know a person is lying, they don't know why they are lying or what about. This is where civil discussion becomes useful.

An example

'I would respectfully request a chance for Samara to become an LI.

Samara is the eldest, and most unique of the ladies we met in Mass Effect 2, who represented the qualities of a mature woman, and an aged warrior. I do not ask that my Shepard ever lay with this Asari, but an ability for us to acknowledge our deep bond, that we will always come to one anothers aid would be most appreciated.'

I imagine that kind of post would work better than some of the examples recently seen on this board.

I can only assume you're referring to the Ashley thread(s) with that last comment.

I read those threads and made the occasional post. It was pretty damned obvious to me why the whiners were annoyed. "Ash is not a tart!" is not a very high-brow notion, nor is it difficult to articulate.

If anything, I learned from Phaedon today that it is important to allow a company freedom to express their creativity; even if I do not agree with certain aspects.

Afterall, it would be horrible if the "majority" of fans came here and posted that they want less conversations, less RPG elements, and less emphasis on squad interaction.

For the best, Reapers are enough, we don't need to add metroids to enemy list.

That works too. I maintain that the big deal people were making out of the other outfit was silly, and now I will shift my argument to include that it was also silly because you were jumping the gun and I totally saw this coming.

"What about her look makes her a tart?"

This is what I'm getting at, people say "I hate X" then don't explain why, or their comments can be taken seriously because they don't have the proper context. After playing ME 1 I could see the Vanguard cass vid and say 'I hate Biotic charge, it makes no sense' then you play the game and read the codex.

I'm glad she's getting armor and everything. It wouldn't be the same Ashley, whom I remember from the first game, without some armor. I liked talking to her about her sisters, and goldbricking. I thought she was a good character, with some development as well if she survives Virmire. So, I'm glad to hear this and I hope she keeps her personality alongside the armor. =)

This is great news, now I just wish for great writing for Ashleys character (like any character in ME3).

I appreciate things like this, developers communicating with us. We may be the hard core, dedicated crowd but not any more or less perfect than anyone and I don't think we are any easier to deal with either. We love and we have many things and can we be passionate about those things, oh boy...

Especially at this point, when most people her are going to buy ME3 anyway. Many of us I think has followed (excluding PS3 players) the story from ME1 and now when there isn't anything left but the conclusion and we want to know how to story ends, it's great to see BioWare folks still writing here. :)
