Thing is, if they'd been planning armor before and just weren't ready to show the actual design, then all the biggots got was confirmation that there would be armor.
This. This wasn’t something they were scrambling to change just because some people asked (or tantrumed) to get. This was something already in the plan. No doubt they only mentioned it now to quiet the discontent and so people would stop badgering Mrs. Norman.
Anyway, I am excited to see what kind of armor everyone gets!

Exactly, they must of felt the tantrums and thread spamming were getting out of hand. I'm glad they decided to do something about it.KBomb wrote...

It depends on what context you're talking about. Something to think about though... these forums represent less than 1% of the ME players. It's an important minority, since we value a lot of the interaction we can have here... but it's still a minority.

We are your hardcore fans, right here.

EDIT: And you're still not as hardcore of a fan as I am. You may have more money than me, which allows you to buy more ME-related merchandise, but you're still not as hardcore of an MEfan as I am. Truth.

I hope this was originally planned by Bioware and not solely because of the public outcry.
I'm pretty sure it would have been.
They were hinting at increase in Armour choices or customisation a while back.
Now I only need them to reneg on their response of public outcry to elevators and the Mako in ME1 and I'll be happy!
Mwahahahahhahahahaha!

Most people complained about Ashley's new outfit because they feel all characters need armor. They like the word "vacuum" a lot. Personally I don't feel that way. I like Miranda's loyalty black tightsuit and I definitely dig Jack's look (I love the fact that she really doesn't give a f*ck). I have no problem with that kind of thing at all. What concerned me wasn't the new outfit itself, but the change. She was a soldier when I met her for the last time. Why did Ashley changed? Had Bioware said nothing at all, it would be something to look forward to for ME3 and nothing more; but they responded, and the responses they did give weren't very explanatory ("embrace change, the future holds possibilities", you know all this).
I think they could have come up with a coherent development for Ashley that explained neatly why her style is different now, the same way they changed Liara in ME2, who went from fragile, awkward little thing to independent, strong willed information broker. And I kinda like these sort of psychological ruminations about characters. Garrus is another guy who changed quite a bit for the better, too. So I was kinda hoping the same would happen with Ash. And then they would leave a subtle, non spoilery hint about the explanation via tweets, or mention that there was one.
Instead, there's this announcement that Ashley maintains her former style at least during combat. I'd say keeping the good old Ash is a pretty safe bet, because the Ashley we already had was great and known by everyone. But then we lost the priiiiize we might have got if she had had a solid development that explained the heavily risky change in style. I guess we should be happy though--now, at least we know things won't get worse! Hey, that's something.

True they did say they were going to fix that. Ah well no fuss I guess as long as everyone gets what they want that's the main thing right? Ash's Casual wear being a catsuit and armouring up while in battle. That's what everyone wanted right? RIGHT!?

Since they'll also be a number of people who will play with an Ash / Liara / Miranda / Wrex / Garrus nude patch - they should implement that option too! :innocent:

Now that it has been confirmed, I don't know what to think about this. I posted a lot in the "is that ashley?" thread because the reasons that were been given for the change were very unsatisfying, and because some aspects of her change (the hair covering one eye and the ridiculous spine curved posturing when shooting) were not for the better.

Well her hair doesn’t cover her eyes. You can see that clearly in the screenshot where she is sitting with Shepard. Both eyes are very clear. I think it was just the angle of the screen that made it look as though it were covering it. The hairstyle isn’t that odd, really. It’s almost identical to this one: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/23/shepard3t.jpg/ used for female Shepard.
And as for her posturing, that particular screenshot was taken while she was helping Shepard onto the Normandy, IIRC. She wasn’t posing to shoot at the moment. Again, just another odd angle.
But be happy! Now she has armor as does the other members of the squad. All should be well and peaceful in Realismland.

I hope I can still keep her in the catsuit and without a helmet.
I'm sure you'll be able to, if you want to.
More armour options doesn't mean you're forced to use them.

Completely expected, just like the fact for promo material purpose they would show her more attractive outfit. Everybody can relax.
This^ Bioware have been SOOO on the ball the past couple of weeks with tweets, videos and trailers. As soon as negative posts were going up about Ashleys new look or whatever there was counter info from Bioware.
Everybody, just RELAX!
THEY.
ARE.
LISTENING!
Seriously people, ive never known another developer be as generous with there time or take as much care to deliver what there fans want, than Bioware! I mean Casey Hudson's the exec producer, isnt he? I'm sure he's got more important things to do than feed us info all day, cut the guy some slack!

I now have no direct complaint concerning Mass Effect 3 going forward. Carry on BioWare...and make a damn good game like we know you will!
