"Ashley will be able to have armor and a helmet in #ME3, as will others. We've only shown very little of the game so far."

Does this mean armour customisation?

In any event, more choices for squadmate armour is a good thing. Some people might appreciate the slimmer armour, others something with more bulk.

As long as the choice is there, I'm for it. The only thing that I would like is to be able to actually purchase if need be are specific pieces. (In game.) ME 2 armor layout was at most 3 I think with Miranda, Grunt, and Garrus getting the best ones. If anything, I want the ability to swap out as well as which pieces are worn with what. The catsuits were never a real issue to me but it would be cool to see something similar to tech armor covering the catsuits.

Just get the lighting right and have the options for visors as well as helmets that helps to increase the squaddies attributes. In my mind I can see Ashley in like a crimson armor set with purple lighting that reflects her Spectre status.

Maybe all those idiots who posted in that "What happend to ashley" thread can fianlly calm down.

There were those who seriously went overboard in that thread that always happens, but there were lots of interesting points for why it annoyed people too, just as there lots of good points made in favor of the new look.

Let's be fair.

I'm glad.

To be perfectly honest I didn't *mind* the look she was given but I'd much prefer to see her in Mass Effect 3 rocking it with armor, helmet and a rifle like the tough as nails soldier she is.

Either way is fine, but it's nice to know she gets the option.

These forums also represent the most hardcore and dedicated fans of the series, Brenon. I know I wouldn't even think of posting here if I had played through ME1 and ME2 no more than once each and put them aside until ME3.

Oh definitely! If someone enjoys the game enough to bother registering on a community forum, it already says something about how much they enjoyed the experience. I was merely trying to provide a bit of context on the "minority" thing.

It's in our interest to make sure that we're delivering something that will get our fans excited... if you guys enjoy the game, and are excited about it, it's more likely that you'll tell your friends, etc.

But at the same time, sometimes we're going to disagree. While there might be a very vocal set of folks here on the forums that think a particular way... a lot of the time, we might have access to a significant amount of data that shows the exact opposite.

In that case... which takes precedence? If you know that 30% of the total playerbase did one thing and seemed to enjoy one particular thing... but a group on the forums is saying they don't like that... which is more important? Is there a way to compromise so that we can deliver something that we think everyone will like?
It's a hard decision... and thankfully one that I don't usually have to make.

Well, actually, when surveys are done, they don't survey most of the population, less than 1% are actually surveyed. So, these forums are actually adequate (in survey terms) to the average player's needs.

Good deal, I always thought we should have options for what our squad members wear. Full armor in combat situations and something lighter in non combat situations.

But I personally would have thought it would be hilarious if Bioware made Ashley's outfit skimpier. The 80 page long threads of people freaking out and claiming they won't buy ME3 over what a fictional character wears in a video game would be outstanding.

It occurs to me that I'm such a damn pessimist that being proven wrong often puts me in a good mood.

Glad to know that the only complaint I had (so far) turned out to be bogus.

I cannot describe how this makes me feel in words. I will use picture instead:

It's something good to hear, but I'm not quite convinced. This is the series that gave us Miranda and Samara. And pink armor.

What he says could mean different things. He could himself consider the offending outfit to be armor, although it's implied that he doesn't. Maybe you're able to switch her to armor sometime after the beginning of the game.
I think more likely, the AA pack you can buy (or that comes with the CE) will be armor for Ashley. Either way, it's almost a given that the catsuit will be the default.

Would you be surprised if they said that Samara wears armor in ME2? I wouldn't. Ashley's "armor" could very well be just that - technically armor, but showing an impractical amount of skin.

Right. When I read that tweet it didn't sound like any confirmation that the new suit isn't her 'armor'.

Guys give it a rest. The man has come out and said Ash will have armour and a helmet, don't read so much into everything.

Yeah. They wouldn't go all "technically it was true" on us when they know we're going to take this news as confirmation that Ash will have proper armor and a helmet.

Honestly who knows what they mean by helmet and armor. They probably considered the masks that all the companions wore as helmets. I wouldn't expect it to be what you think until more details come out. PS I like the way ashley looks in this game and will keep her as is :D.

A mask can't be considered as an helmet.

I think you're reading too much into it. This was not an attempt to placate people with a non-answer.

Hudson's tweet was made after several Bioware developers were personally abused because of people's outrage over Ashley's armour selection in the trailer.

It seems certain that he was explaining that they'll have more options for squadmate armour than the ones we've seen so far. For Ashley, that means heavier armour and a helmet option.

Brenon Holmes practically confirmed more armour options in an edited post on the second or third page.

I always assumed (though I could still be wrong) that the tight suit Ashley was wearing was just something she wore on the ship. Afterall, she didn't wear her armor on the Normandy in ME1. I thought the "Miranda outfit" everyone was upset about looked a lot like the Alliance casual uniform. I figured that on missions she'd wear armor, maybe even with her hair up, and on the ship she'd look like we saw in that one picture.

@ M-r Brenon Holmes,

I'd take the time to write a very detailed post about why the complete lack of squad customization was one of the biggest flaws of Mass Effect 2, but I fear that given BioWare's stance that something must be representative of the entire community to be valid (without ever explaining how to conclude this), I fear I'll fall on deaf ears...

Let me put in in this way then - every single RPG, sci-fi or Mass Effect fan-forum I've seen and posted in considers it a flaw and wants squad customization; every single one of my friends (who mostly dislike ME2, but that's a different matter) consider it a flaw; every single topic or poll on this very forum has the majority of people disliking the lack of customization.

I really don't understand where you're taking your information from, but it's obviously not a great source.

The other way I can see it, it's just laziness. Hell, it'll sell even with this mediocre "squad outfits" too, right? Even room for DLC Alt.-app. packs! Hurray...

Frankly, I prefer characters having their own unique appearances like in ME2. Would I prefer there to be more variety and customization within those appearances? Sure. I still consider it a step above ME1, where everybody wore the exact same generic tight spacesuit, maybe with a palette swap. There's a lot more unique style and character to each character now.

I'm just saying, evoking anecdotal evidence or mob rule of a very small group (this forum) does not make something universal or true. If you're going solely off the majority of forum posts on this forum, you'd also think that: everybody thinks that anyone with a console deserves to be killed, nobody likes multiplayer or shooters, the majority of people play femshep, and that romances are the most important thing in a Bioware game even above story.

This is literally the best news I've heard from the game so far.
