Subtitles. A little detail I'd like to see fixed

I've been playing the ME series on muiltiple occassions. From time to time I fiddle with the settings to make my later experience different from the rest. So I'd play with the subtutles on now and then. The one thing I notice is when Shepard speaks, his subtitles are labeled as just Shepard.

It's a small detail, but I'd like my Shepard's subtitles to have the name I gave him/her as they speak.

Example...

Garrus: So how bad does it look?

Robert Shepard: Hell Garrus you've always been ugly, throw some paint on and no one will notice.

Full name basis for every line of dialogue? How about no.

Other than a way to identify your different save-games, is the first name ever used anywhere in the game in any way?

There is a way. Go to load game, switch career. It had "Robert" Shepard. Which may be different than "Jade" Shepard.

First name is never used in Game. Why would you wan't it? What if someone calls their character "Penis shepard"?

Blue Sons Commander: *Oh, ****, Penis Shepard is here!"

Only in the subtitles. I'm no programer, but I assume a simple code could be made. Not on the lines themsevles but on who are speaking them.

Example:

Robert Shepard: I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite store on the Citidel.

I disagree. Just ''Shepard'' is good enough for me.

I think a more pressing issue re: subtitles is making them not spoil the dialogue. For example, here's a spoiler for ME2. I'll leave some space to scroll past it because I'm not sure of the spoiler-allowed nature of this subforum.

On the Collector ship when EDI has the revelation that Collectors were Protheans, the subtitle popped up before she spoke it and took about 90% of the impact out of it for me.

I have never once seen any message that uses the name you have given Shepard.  DA2 did though.

and the subtitles that reveal the final boss in 2 show up like 10-15 seconds before they show it

I don't like having names in front of the dialogue, I can hear who's talking. (Apologies to anyone who's dead). Still would like to see an option to turn names off, but that's probably asking too much for something so little.

Also, how do you pronounce "Robert"?

No, because the non player characters don't get their full names spelled out. I wouldn't want to see something like "Garrus Vakarian" when just "Garrus" works perfectly.

And only using the last name sounds more badass imo

Funny anecdote: One of my first Shepards before the Kasumi DLC was named Solomon Shepard. So during her loyalty mission, when she says "Your alias will be Solomon Gunn" i was like "Woah how the hell did they do that?!" I thought they'd figured out how to get characters to say your first name. I was most disappointed when she said the same name for my next Shepard too :D

While I would love to see "Ace Shepard: Oh, I'm DEFINITELY interested.....", I'm sure there's a logical reason why they didn't go thru that trouble. Subtitles are generally typed up as a transcript and summoned on cue, if they tried to fill in our name, they would have to write the code to retrieve the name EVERYTIME Shep speaks and input your custom name. While that sound simple, it's a waste of precious computing resources and coding.

Wut I would appreciate is better voice acting from Shepard. I've noticed he lacks inflection and tone during much of his dialogue. It's especially noticeable in his conversations with Miranda. I don't kno if that's because Mark Meer isn't a great actor or because Miranda is voiced by a television actor, so the style is different but I just wish it was a bit better.....

That is why I normally don't have the subtitles on until I have a few playthroughs under my belt.

Nearly - mine is Alyson. In russian Alison, Alyson and Allison are all "Элисон".
Speaking about regional differences - I so hope there'll be possible to have english subtitles for local version:crying:

I love my crew calling me Commander. It sounds cool :D

Also, I would like they fixed subtitles, but I was thinking about translations. It seems the spanish translation was made by people who didn't understand the sentences they were translating >.<

@mineralica, I always change ME subtitles to english. It's easy, you only have to change one character in one file.

i would rather them fix the timing of the subtitles, and the conversation choice 'investigate' area where they always switch positions.
like if you goto 'investigate' and choose the top left choice, the next time you goto 'investigate' it moves everything clockwise (sometimes not all the time though) :/
