Also, games are not to be real. Sure, some games take aspects from realism, but overall the games still are a break from reality.
I've not read the thread entirely, but specifically on this point:
The problem is people idealizing what they see in these "breaks" from reality. Eventually they compare themselves to , and come to expect from themselves , the aesthetic values set by the industry (The industry at large : Movies/ Music/ Fashion /Professional sports and so on) . And the bar is set too high , if it is attainable at all without cheating : Surgeries , Drugs , C.G.I. Failures and disappointments ensues and can lead significant psychological . repercussions to those involved.
And if you think that you're above all this , think again. Marketing is a multi-billion dollar industry because its proven to work.
That said , i don't think its particularly useful to argue parts of the problem , like games for example , since it can be so easily "Dismissed" as trivial amusement. Taken in totality however, people are always on this "break" from reality as you put it, we live in a society of escapism.
Meh , screw it. Imma joining the Reapers...
Call me stupid (I'm a little tired), but are you disagreeing or agreeing with me?

Tokio Hotel is a pop rock band from Germany, founded in 2001 by singer Bill Kaulitz, guitarist Tom Kaulitz, drummer Gustav Schäfer and bassist Georg Listing.[4] The quartet have scored four number one singles and have released three number one albums in their native country, selling nearly 5 million CDs and DVDs there.[5] After recording an unreleased demo-CD under the name "Devilish" and having their contract with Sony BMG Germany terminated, the band released their first German-language album, Schrei, as Tokio Hotel on Universal Music Germany in 2005. Schrei sold more than half a million copies worldwide[6] and spawned four top five singles in both Germany and Austria. In 2007, the band released their second German album Zimmer 483and their first English album Scream which have combined album sales of over one million copies worldwide and helped win the band their first MTV Europe Music Award for Best InterAct. The former, Zimmer 483, spawned three top five singles in Germany while the latter, Scream, spawned two singles that reached the top twenty in new territories such as France, Portugal, Spain andItaly. In September 2008, they won in the US their first MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist. In October 2008, they won four awards including Best International Artist and Song of the year at Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica held in Mexico. Tokio Hotel became the first German band ever to win an award at the MTV VMAs and also at the MTV Latin America Awards. They also picked up the Headliner award at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008 held in Liverpool on November 6, 2008 and the Award for Best Group on November 5, 2009 at the MTV Europe Music Award held in Berlin. They won an Award for Best World Stage Performance on November 7, 2010 at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Madrid.
Here's what their music is like:

And feminism is not something that excludes primal female prerogatives, actually it glorifies females in all aspects, meaning female sensuality and the fact that we have, ah let's say, more pleasing curves. No one should take articles like this one for serious, especially when it comes to BW games. Yes, I am miserable for not having female version of Geralt of Rivia but I would never accuse CD Project Red of sexism - tis simple - I just want my point of view in that story, nothing more nothing less. So, bottom line, boys, is - don't read ramblings of random frustrated persons... unforunately, this world is full of 'em. Yeah, it was nice to hear 'Sisters are doing it for themselves' by Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin while I was blossoming young girl, it sounded cool, but since then I'm not into buying that idealistic sheit anymore and to be honest, it's damn boring song and in my games I want my female characters and their female companions to be females in every sense of the word, meaning - gief brains to them but also nice ****** and arses, 'cause those are the games, fiction and fun is all that matters - screw 'feminist' BS and let boys have fun. If one wan't that much realism in games, well they should not play games in the first place... btw, even in real life, cool looking females are working, married and moms, respected by males most of time, so the only ones demeaning my gender are actually writers of this kind of articles.

Except from the fact that there are some VG that are specifically developed for a female audience. But anyway, why the software houses like Bethesda and Bioware put in their game the possibiliy to choose the PC gender? I think that the males that plays as female aren't that much. It'd be only a waste of time and resources.
Anyway, thank you. I laughed for 5 minutes for your post.

I'd say in some places that the marketing strategy is being taken too far. I feel this way in terms of manga and anime.
In gaming, I don't feel that it is being taken too far though, as there are still games that don't over sexualize all women. ( and ones still being made).

No disrespect, but wundergeek sucks.
-First, if she wants to be taken seriously at least she should write with some protocol and solid arguments, she writes in such a lame way that is even annoying to read. She should also, in order to justify her wannabe feminist rant, prove that she's read something at a higher level than "Twilight", how about some actual feminist studies for starters? how about she proves she knows what she's talking about? does wundergeek even knows who Virginia Woolf is? I very much doubt it.
-Second, the images she posted -specially the ones regarding Jack and Samara- are so random (and even captured in moments that doesn't remain on screen more than half a second) and just whine about something feminists actually approve! The freedom a woman has to dress herself however the hell she wants! PERIOD. Stupid contradiction that just keeps showing the brainless, rabid, desperate need to prove a point she doesn't even knows.
-Third, ME is a game and it has to appeal to various fractions of the public to sell (different genders, sexual orientation, musical tastes etc.). Has anyone ever complained in the same way about the "stereotypes" BioWare uses to make their male characters attractive to female fans?
There's much more that could be exposed as weak points of her rant, but honestly I think this is enough to prove that she and her loose "arguments" doesn't gather the minimal criteria to be worthy of reading seriously. Waste of my five minutes and yours.
Cheers.
You,sir,are my hero.

This would be nice I think. I have a very nice fan art of Carth with just a Christmas bow held in the right spot. And I've seen some great fan art of Kaidan, Alistair and Carth standing all manly and bare chested. BioWare just needs to include some of that in their games.
