Good to know the ''blogosphere'' is still filled with opinionated, self-aggrandizing douchebags (M/F)

This is why I don't read personal blogs from people who don't matter. Which includes almost all feminists in existance, incidentally.

if anything, Jacob's LM is the most stereotypical: talented black male on a last ditch effort to connect with his father that he hasn't seen in 10 years? As is Grunt's, the primitive but physically gifted neanderthal who must prove his worth to the Krogan clan? lolllll

Miranda's LM has nothing to do with sexism, it has to do with fending off the feeling of ownership and not wanting that for anyone else, especially her genetic twin.

And yes, Miranda's uniform is TIGHT, too tight even. But it's not nearly as bad as the women in Duke Nukem or the full frontal nudity in some of the GTA games (which I could care less about). I do wish Miranda wasn't a Cerberus operative in HEELS, but it could be worse.

Well, i think such a type of ideologists are more closer to wear hijabs. Or see them on other women. And that's stupid. (Or they want women to look like men to make no difference at all?)

Jack is not oversexualized, she is like the OP described her.
Miranda kinda is,but it fits her since she is supposed to be a perfect woman who uses all of her strenghts in her favour.
And Samara is too,but I honestly don't see why people are so upset by it.

Hmm, don't feminists have other things to complain about? Like the uneven wages for the same jobs, domestic abuse and so on? Don't get me wrong, I support a serious feminist movement, but just as when some feminist back home (in Sweden) declared that "men are animals and should be treated as such" and that "women who marry men are biological traitors" (paraphrased but not far off) it puts me and many others off. You just have to look at any kind of commercial that tries to sell clothes o make-up to see more sexualised situations than Bioware ever has done.

I don't agree with her, really. If she was shooting this at CDProjekt or whomever made Duke Nukem Forever I can agree - those are over the top - but Bioware? Bioware has been shuffling quietly in that department ever since Fox "News" rang the bells and gathered for a witch hunt. I can count games on both hands and feet that are much "worse" than the Mass Effect franchise has ever been, and a majority of those games are not rated M either.

I wish some people could disagree without completely misconstruing the arguments or intentions of the source.

I don't agree with several points made in that blog (I never found Jack an example of overt sexualisation for example; if anything I found her a subversion of traditional sex appeal), but I know better than to dismiss it all for the most base reasons.

You know, such as saying "oh that's just typical feminist talk" and then continue to ignorantly badmouth feminism.

After reading those articles, I'm not surprised that feminism as been marginalized (it's always a few bad eggs* who ruin it for everyone).

It's hilarious that in all of the "bewbs are in the center of the frame!" images, you know what else is also in the center of the frame? Their face.

*I was going to make a disclaimer about using the term "bad egg" figuratively, but then I got distracted by Miranda's "cleavage", so um, yeah.

I've read all of her stuff on Mass Effect. While I can agree that feminists have a lot to be irate over, I honestly don't view Mass Effect as being a conservative or "sexist" game per se. In fact, I think Mass Effect is one of the most progressive games out there (well, before Miranda, Samara and Ashley were shown in babe costumes).

The author sounds like she wants Bioware to portray a universe where EVERY race has reached the ideal of gender equality. I think Bioware's bold move to show a galaxy in turmoil, with complex and sometimes demeaning social structures, represents a great generational leap in games, where controversial issues can make great art.

I also think that Bioware's attempt at portraying human men and women in ME1 as equals, and giving us several ways of dealing with people who see women as sex objects (Harkin, although it could've just been because he was drunk) was more than enough to show how progressive Mass Effect is.

I agree with her on the sexualized female outfits, though. High heels and v-necks in combat... after what we had in ME1, this was a big step back from the vision of human equality Bioware had for Mass Effect. Miranda maybe could've kept it on the Normandy, but in combat?

Oh, come on. Please.
And this is why sometimes I lose my faith in humanity.
Bioware shouldn't care about what this blogger has to say. She should get a job or do something else, as it looks like she has way too much free time.
And feminism is just as wrong as machismo, but that's just my opinion.
I'm gone.

Without clicking the articles I can safely say this is probably the same person that wrote a diatribe about how Joss Whedon is the scourge of womenkind.

Aw, you stole the words right out of my mouth :D

The article brings up some valid points (like with the ME female aliens) while I found some others to be a bit nitpicky (like the focus on appearance).

The 'ZOMG feminists suck lolzorz' stuff is pretty immature.

This.

This bad habit of speaking without amassing knowledge or wisdom on a controversial subject is just not cool. FOX News does it consistently, that should be enough to convince regular people to stop.

The Bayonetta comment in that first link made me laugh.

From what I gather from the poster of those weblogs is women should not have breasts or butts, and flat hips. And that if they do have it, they shouldn't show it.

I thought feminism was about women feeling sexy about themselves for themselves.

Have to agree, they did oversexualize the female characters in me2. ANd it's happening again in 3 with Ashley, just look at her. I do think they did cross a line a little with those designs... they are so obvious. Bioware actually made some in jokes about miranda in the game so have to wonder, if this was their decision or did EA again have something to do with it.

But what can i say, sex sells.

Imo feminists are ****in about wrong stuff. It would be more practical if they demanded male characters in revealing clothes, cuz majority of guys wouldn't care, and they would get their equality.

Feminists are divided. It can mean different things to different people, which is why you have some women who criticize other women for choosing to be stay-at-home moms.

Oh lawd. Really? She needs to GTFO. If she wants a video game to bit*h about she should be talking about games like DOA with flopping boobies and crotch shots. Not ME.

The trick that wrote this needs to get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich.

Females don't get the same amount of arousal from exposed body parts as males do.
