I agree with their points on Miranda, but saying Jack is more sexualised then Samara and Miranda is just...wrong? I didn't find Jack sexualized at all, really, her lack of clothing was more a bi-product of her personality and a way of showing her tattoos. "Feminists" like this amuse me just as much as the male sterotype as they seem to think women should not be aloud to have any skin showing at all. Both want to control how women are potrayed in the media, just in different ways.

Samara comes from a more sexualized race, hence her being more sexualized. I agree that her armour is impractical and I personally don't like it, but they won't overboard, paticularly with some of those ridiculous "sexualized" shots.

This was posted before. And it belongs on the ME2 forum, not the ME3 forum.

Imo feminists are ****in about wrong stuff. It would be more practical if they demanded male characters in revealing clothes, cuz majority of guys wouldn't care, and they would get their equality.

Females don't get the same amount of arousal from exposed body parts as males do.

Now, quick! Guess why!

Lol. Wha? As  woman I'm going to say that we do. People seem to think that men are more sexual then woman, but the truth is that we are we just don't talk about it like men do.

Have to agree, they did oversexualize the female characters in me2. ANd it's happening again in 3 with Ashley, just look at her. I do think they did cross a line a little with those designs... they are so obvious. Bioware actually made some in jokes about miranda in the game so have to wonder, if this was their decision or did EA again have something to do with it.

But what can i say, sex sells.

Good thing I had Ash nuked,eh?

The Bayonetta comment in that first link made me laugh.

From
what I gather from the poster of those weblogs is women should not have
breasts or butts, and flat hips. And that if they do have it, they
shouldn't show it.

I thought feminism was about women feeling sexy about themselves for themselves.

Precisely what I thought.

Well they better start, other wise there will be no equality. Females will always be sex objects if males dont become
ones too.

I do see her point regarding Miranda. Those bum-shots did annoy me and the whole emphasis on her body is excessive.
She could even make a point about how Samara is showing too much skin (it's debatable).

But Jack? Really? I don't think that was for sexual purposes. I don't even think Jack was designed to be sexy in the first place. I see her refusal to put on any clothes as her belief of herself having nothing to hide, or maybe empowerment, whatever. The point is, Jack is not designed to appeal to male audiences.

I wish some people could disagree without completely misconstruing the arguments or intentions of the source.

I don't agree with several points made in that blog (I never found Jack an example of overt sexualisation for example; if anything I found her a subversion of traditional sex appeal), but I know better than to dismiss it all for the most base reasons.

You know, such as saying "oh that's just typical feminist talk" and then continue to ignorantly badmouth feminism.

You are right, but i don't see any thought-out analisys here (except for a few good bits about Jacob's LM and in-game shots of Miranda's ass). This whole article simply sounds like one giant gossip. Being largely feminist myself i can say that there's nothing i wish more than for females to stop unreasonable histerical ****ing and start using thought-out arguments. I can only thank this article's author for throwing this pile of meaningless crazytalk at us and giving over-sensitive male population more material to badmouth all feminists

Hmm, don't feminists have other things to complain about? Like the uneven wages for the same jobs, domestic abuse and so on? Don't get me wrong, I support a serious feminist movement, but just as when some feminist back home (in Sweden) declared that "men are animals and should be treated as such" and that "women who marry men are biological traitors" (paraphrased but not far off) it puts me and many others off.

Yeah, and, though not in a serious matter, this kind of stuff makes me think that the worst mistake men made in this matter is even give women this sort of equallity, hence their liberty to think like this.

Because, unarguably, we can all agree that women ( humans in general, but women more than so) can't have enough of a thing, you give them your finger and most of them will take your whole arm.

In highschool, my class was made up of 31 persons: 4 guys ( including me) and 27 girls. I know how they work.

I agree with serious feminist movements, I hate guys that beat their girls ( have had conflicts my male friends because of this), I'm all for equality, but women tend to seize power, and every man should be aware of that.

The blog-post is an illustration of this...

I don't see why the blogger has problems with strong females showing vulnerability.
Pretty much all of the squadmates in the Mass Effect series showed it, even Garrus and Wrex.

No. The entire blog is about sexism in video games and the industry. She picked dozens of games to talk about.

Miranda is suppose to be eye candy.

Samara was suppose to be an isult to the people that said ME1 showed too much nudity with Liara, so to get back at them, have Samara's chest showing

Jack is hideous. I would never find that attractive, especially since she looks like a twelve year old boy. No hair, no chest, manly tattoos, just dirty.

This.

And I agree with the blogger's point about every character except Jack. To me (as a Feminist), Jack was an intensely interesting character purely because she wasn't sexualised. With her shaven head and full-body tattoos, she's the exact opposite of western culture's feminine beauty ideal. Her almost-nudity therefore doesn't serve the purpose of making her sexy, but rather of accentuating her 'feral' character.

But even with the blogger's good points in consideration, I would still say that the Mass Effect series was still, for the most part, wonderfully feminist. It's a big part of why I love these games so much.

Jack has the most beautiful face. (Those lips!) IMHO. I thought it was awesome that they made a LI that was not the normal idea of beauty.

How about each and every woman is an individual and there is no "how they work", because there is no "they". :?

A few comments.

Jacob isn't too far behind Miranda in the ridiculous camera shots. Yet he isn't mentioned at all. Although I do agree Miranda/Jacob's shots are ridiculous and need to stop in future BioWare games.

She compares an Asari stripper in a bar to casual men. Why not compare the casual female look(store merchants) to the male counterpart? If her point was that their was only female strippers.. then her point doesn't make very much sense. The Asari are designed to be the promiscuous female alien race. They say as much themselves and in the codex. I'm not complaining that the Krogan are the a-typical meat head dumb man stereotype.

I felt like I was reading any other blog.. mostly biased and blown out of proportion.. but sprinkled with some good ideas and facts.

If I was a female.. I would hate Kelly more than anything. The female secretary who is bi-curious, profiles almost every bad stereotype, and humps anything with legs.

She's also brought up some things that I think BW does very well:

BioWare has some of the best female NPCs ever, hands down. From Dynaheir in BG to Bastila in KOTOR to Ashley in Mass Effect, the female NPCs that join your party are well rounded, engaging, and memorable with nary a personality stereotype to be found. Not for BioWare the helpless princess primadonna who needs rescuing. (Okay, excepting Imoen in BG2. But at least she’s your sister and not your love interest.) No, the female characters who join your party are ass-kickers with complex motivations and compelling story lines.

...which is why I tend to not be bothered by the 'cleavage butt-shots' stuff, because their female characters are well-written and three dimensional (and they continued this on into DA2 and I think did even a better job there).

Bulls.. all guys are different. I have a whole bunch of friends including myself that dont care
about sex unless love is involved.  We are fairly attractive and interesting people.

Edit: We do appriciate boobs, but thats just a good start, it meens noting on its own.

My impression as an artist: blogger just can't make a constructive criticism about the art in ME2 without mentioning boobs every other sentence.

And that poor comparison of Samara to Bayonetta? I'll just stop right there.
