It's like getting a skin lotion, and then drinking it.
It might not kill you (atleast not quickly), depending on what's in the lotion it might even be good for you (though unlikely), but you surely are not using it as intended.

Are you saying that when I throw back a glass of Coppertone SPF 30 before going outside, I'm doing it wrong?

You drink poultices in DA:O? This abuse of English drives me bonkers.

Apparently, you can drink paste - in DA: Origins. In older times, e.g. in medieval times, people would be drinking a paste of some sort, not the thin stuff we have now e.g. for head aches or injuries. Even pills and tablets would only be made in the apothecary; maybe from the 17th century ?

In older times, e.g. in medieval times or before, in real life, you would neet roots  to heal people; processed them you did. Sometimes into a drink, sometimes into a poultice - which is thicker in its consistancy than a potion. The root probably not being crushed all together in the morter.

As to they healing stuff is called a poultice and not a potion, maybe it is because D&D sort of owns the word 'potion'?

i doubt when the game comes out your gunna call em poultices .. everyones just gunna say potions .. potions have been used since like the first RPG's .. so its just more natural for everyone to jump back to saying that outta habit

How do you make potions? If I have elfroot, and flasks, and then try to use the elfroot, he eats it and it is gone...

Potions.. poultices.. whatever you call it it's still the same game mechanic of "gold wins fights". I truly wish they would get rid of that. Only spells should grant instant healing in combat and it should be hideously draining for the mage to imbue someone with lifeforce - much more so than incinerating enemies with fireballs.
That said, poultices applied at camp to treat injuries after combat would be cool. But the amount of potions or poultices or whatever deciding the outcome of combat is very uncool.

I would like to thank the maker of this thread for henceforward ruining the game for me. This is going to bother me EVERY day, now. Great.

At least they didn't make a Lyrium poultice...

"Alright, apprentices, now you just rub this raw lyrium on your skin... good... wait, why are you all fidgeting and foaming at the mouth? Maybe this was a bad idea..."

Lol...that reminds me of Garin, the merchant from Orzammar, who got lyrium in a cut and has trouble concentrating.

I wonder if Bioware knew what poultices actually were beforehand, or if this was a slip-up?  Ah well, I've always preferred magic healing over items in my rpgs, so at least my party members don't drink too much of the stuff.

I really don't think it matters all that much.

I liked that poultices were the healing items instead of healing potions. If you get cut it makes more sense to apply something to the wound that to drink something.

They just have the same animation for using lyrium potions and healing poultices. Maybe there's only one animation for all consumable items. I don't think that's worth getting upset about. A different animation for using different things really wouldn't be worth it.

So, I put some livery on my shield in Awakenings. My character then proceeded to drink a tin of paint. After which, a new crest appeared on my shield.

So, either:

a) My Warden has a very serious mental disorder.

B) The drink animations are to be taken entirely literally.
