Oh people. The third book kind of helps the argument that the reaper avatar caused the shields to go down. The reaper must expend energy to maintain control of their avatar. As you put strain on Saren, it also puts strain on Soverign's energy reserves, culminating in the downing of its shields.

Now with that said it's a good bet it was actually the combined loss of its avatar and constant bombardment that dropped the shields. I don't believe the loss of an avatar causes anything related to substantial loss of energy.

If anything it was simply cinematic representation. They waited until the battle was over with Saren to show the cutscene because it made sense cinematicly. Had they showed Soverign get killed before you got rid of Saren then Saren would have just went limp and you'd poke him a few times with your gun.

As for the Thanix cannons...really? Why do people keep assuming it will be mass produced so fast. It's just not probable. Everything you put on the Normandy was prototype technology.

You'd at most have a few Turian vessels with Thanix prototypes who have been experimenting and preparing to review the cannons and submit a report to their higher up's on its effectiveness.

The Alliance would likely JUST be getting its hands on the tech when they analyze the Normandy (assuming you even upgraded!).

ANY weapon can take down a reaper with a few shots so long as you drop its shields. Will it help you through its shielding? Maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Hmm...if only TIM were on our side, we could develop a weapon to take out the Reapers.

And ourselves with them in the process.

Collector technology is really Reaper technology and the Thanix cannon was strong enough to tear that ship to pieces in a couple shots.

Now a true to form Reaper may be more powerful than a collector ship, no one can say for sure, but bottom line is we stand a chance at some kind of defense with that kind of technology. Whether or not those weapons will be on any ship but the Normandy is another matter.
