Relistically (not counting the whole "you'll win because it's a game" elements)...

Estimates of total dead range from 50 million to over 70 million.
The turning point in the war came after the Battle of Stalingrad.
The success of this operation was the cause of opening a second front and the Invasion of Normandy.
The Hitler's army was the strongest, but thanks to the courage of soldiers and aid of allies, Hitler was defeated.
But devs do not promise that Mass Effect 3 will end with our victory, we know that
Mass Effect 3 is the final story of Shepard. Having a potential, "All is Lost!" ending for ME3

I'm positive it will be possible to lose.

Lure the reapers to the far rim (perfect cause it's far away from citadel space), detonate Dholen (Haestrom's star) and watch them become completely lifeless before they even realize what's going on.
Only trick is to find out how to make the star go supernova. How hard can it be?

That being said, they're still reapers, and we've only battled one or two before, in isolate occurrences. A whole army of them?
Win or lose, many will have to be sacrificed.
