This question has been buggin me since the first game came out,why colonize a deserted, cold, with very thin atmosphere and no oxygen
serously that planet just screams: "Colonize me!" Before you go saying "Its their livable conditions idiot" consider the Citadel,Protheans lived there right? and Ilos  Had about the same conditions as Earth which means their species favour Planets like that. so why would protheans not colonize earth?
Just a queston,.

Protheans knew about ****** Sapiens, colonizing earth would have meant dealing with them in one of 2 ways

1: uplifiting them (and they were not ready)
2: destroying them (and the protheans were not hellbent on things like that apparently)

Maybe it was on their list, but there were better planets to colonize.

My guess is that the Protheans were studying the humans, and didn't want to do anything to them. They were content to watch from a distance.

1) Play ME1, get the trinket, go to Eletania with the space monkeys, find the Prothean ruin, insert trinket, and then read.

2) Garden world but it had developing Sentient life, so they probably didn't want to interfere with another race's development.

*tongue planted in cheek* Who said they didn't?  Maybe they are the ones that created the crystal skulls.

Well, it's simple. Humans were living on it. Or atleast our distant ancestors. Remember the silvery orb on Eletania in ME1? They were studying us.

Never found the prothean ruin on Eletania was busy trying to hunt that stupid monkey, but i really wanted to finish ME1 that day since i was going to buy the second one next day so my impatience won over me and left the planet and went to ilos to finish the game
Never did that SQ in my next palythroughs since i was just rushing trying to get my classes over to ME2. now i wish i would.

Uh, maybe they did, and we are them...
Ok, that's wierd.
To me, the only answer I have is my personal hunch, with no backup whatever...They were observing and possibly experimenting on humans...and wanted to avoid taking over. ie, they were nurturing us.

terra-forming technology would allow them to go to any old rock and live there. (can't think of a Prothean name for it, sorry) After all, their civilization spanned the galaxy, and even had the ability to design and engineer a one way version of a Mass Relay. So the chosen planet is converted into a suitable environment, then reverted or deteriorated after the Reapers reaped 'em. explains the terrible environment (at least in my tired brain.)

I´m wondering why they couldn´t share their planet if they did found us a fascinating species they could have help us develope MUCH faster and share planets.

Probably for the same reason the salarians regret uplifting the krogan.

i wouldn´t uplift an species that are much more durable, faster and pwoerful than us which was the salarians error.

because the possible outcomes would have been

1: the Cromagnon react with hostility.......the result is a war that ends either in the Cromagnon's extinction OR their enslavement
2: the Cromagnon react by worshipping the Protheans which results in either uplifting or servitude

the protheans wanted none of that

Because They're self-efficient and do not need earth and ground. They absorb the energy from stars directly.

Maybe the Protheans wanted to stay away from the dinosaurs on Earth.

I don't see why they would. Look at the current galactic community. Did they uplift humans to spaceflight? No. Would they have uplifted the Krogans if their survival hadn't depended on it? Probably not. Point is, giving species technology they haven't produced themselves(and are most likely not ready for) is unpredictable.

ah just read on another thread, that the Protheans at the time of studying the humans could have been collectors....

My guess is that they could have been protheans stuck in our system when the relays were turned off by the Reapers.
