WARNING: Level 1 Toxic Hazard
Eletania appears to be a world eminently suited for colonization. Sadly, appearances are deceiving. It is covered by a verdant carpet of mosses, algae, and lichen, and possesses a thick oxygenated atmosphere, but the animal kingdom is a web of microscopic symbiotic creatures. These are impossible to filter from the air and necessary for the native life to thrive. Unfortunately, they also cause anaphylactic shock when inhaled by non-native life.
Maybe the Protheans had the same problem colonizing earth as we humans have trying to colonize Eletania? Just because it is a garden world doesn't mean it is suitable for all life.

If that's the case, wouldn't they have had to do the same sort of thing when they occupied the Citadel?SennenScale wrote...
Just remembered something:

The Citadel has a perfectly breathable atmosphere for humans, but does it have an ecosystem? The problem on Eletania was the native life, and I don't think there's anything native to the Citadel.
What I meant is, perhaps there is a similar obstacle for them unique to our planet? Perhaps pollen spores or something else that is, well, everywhere, is toxic to the Protheans. Or the maybe the Protheans did land on Earth and we got sick, forcing the Protheans to leave if they didn't want to kill us.

*ME3 "I am your father" spoiler* They melded human DNA with theirs triggering the evolution path to intelligence of the humans.
Humans are somewhat the descendants of the Protheans!

The Protheans chose not to interfere and to just observe. There were enough other planets to colonize.

That's more of a "You are Forerunner" spoiler. And just as stupid.Dexi wrote...

Aha! I loved that show.
Now you've got me waxing goddamn nostalgic...
