I'm in minority liking Zaeed very much too, but that's a different story. I just sort of get him.

Not really, Ieldra. I just think the sex appeal takes precedence; that's all. If a female character is sexually attractive, chances are the player will be more inclined to get to know her and appreciate her as a result. I do not claim this to be the case with Miranda, but I happen to believe that it is. This is especially true for players who are relatively young and aren't exactly familiar with RPG games. My own cousin is a very good example of this.Ieldra2 wrote...
You're basically saying that people outside of BSN are incapable of appreciating a female character for more than her sex appeal. I don't think that's true...Fiery Phoenix wrote...
Miranda, on the other hand, is liked almost entirely for her sex appeal. The very fact that the larger portion of her fanbase lies outside the confines of this forum proves this.

Shepard: Don't blame yourself Thane
Thane: If I don't who will?
That is one of my more memorable lines. Plus if you ever fail his loyalty mission oh man the debriefing is cryptic but very well acted.
I'd say he would be just out of my top five.
Miranda, Mordin, Samara, Garrus, Liara are my five favorite characters.

I do think he becomes more interesting in his romance, but that seems to be an unfortunate side effect of this game in general. A little more than halfway through the game most of your squad will just plain as hell stop talking to you unless you enter a relationship with them, which is something I generally found annoying as those romance dialogues are where the bulk of character development occurs. Unless you are willing to flirt with everyone on the ship and shatter the hearts of your entire crew, you won't ever get to see that character development.

They're generally very well liked, yes. IGN nominated TIM, Thane, and Mordin as Best Character of 2010 in their finals for last year.Hellbound555 wrote...
i think everybody likes thane and mordin..its like an unspoken understanding. theres no need to share it. its like having a fanthread for breathing air.

However, in regards to ranking the new squadmates in ME2, he ranks below Legion and Samara.

He is the type that is either loved, or simply not noticed, but never hated, that says something about the lack of char development. A good character always has people who hate him.
Of course, there are exceptions. I've never seen anyone hate on Mordin or Legion, and those two are well-developed characters.

the only real time i ever use him though is during the suicide mission since he cant do any of the jobs well and he's pretty good against collectors.
he's got the Tali disease where a good chunk of his dialogue is explaining his race rather than fully devoted to character development. but he still goes alot more into detail about his backround, training, career, and past love life. so yeah, he's a well developed character. he's actually one of the better ME2 characters.
better than jacob, grunt, tali, and samara at least.

I'd say he has quite a bit of fans, they're just not as generally excitable as the other fanbases.

I didn't find Thane interesting. I actually thought he was pretty disgusting, creepy, and pathetic. He neglected his family, abandoned his son, and as much as he's supposed to be the "emotionally deep" love interest... I thought he did a poor job of that too. Thane latches onto Shepard pretty much because Shepard is his only friend, and he's lonely. When he starts calling Shepard the same thing he called his dead wife, I thought that was really... a turnoff. Oh, and as for his philosophy, I thought it was just cowardly. He didn't seem like he really took responsibility for anything in his life.

He and Legion (or kasumi or zaeed kind of depends on what I will download) are my meta game interests... though it's gonna depends on their classes aswell, considering my character in mass effect currently is an adept.. (if he's a full fledged adept aswell I might reconsider...)
Not going into a romance with him I think, (considering Kaidan might return depending on my actions, still haven't decided who to send in (Storywise it could be quite dramatic to send the one you love into death... ')

And it all ended in one day - the day when we found out about his dead wife and long lost son. The further the worse - Shepard is his siha, but Irikah was a siha too. The fact that he'll never able to forget any minute with his lost family because of perfect memory.
I completely agree that the past relationship add depth to character, but why male cast worship their dead wives again and again? Why can't they be divorced, live separate or just have multiple girlfriends in youth and now calm down and search for their only?

You gotta admit it, though: his dialogue for failing the loyalty mission is extremely well written.TheCrakFox wrote...

It is, you risk unintentional lolz if you write some dialogue that's meant to be depressing poorly, but they nailed it.Fiery Phoenix wrote...

But, I do think he's suffered from two areas. The first is that he doesn't seem to have a niche role on the team. I always forget he's a biotic. I'm sure they probably made him that way to balance out the team but... I often feel he would have been better as a more Kasumi-esque tech character. It felt to me more like they looked at him and said, "Well, we need a ___ to balance the team", and they shoehorned him into that role. He's also the only character that doesn't contribute at all to the suicide mission, which was a big mistake.
And then, the biggest hold up for me as far as being a LI is the fairly lengthy emotional baggage. Not that there's anything wrong with it; I actually do CARE about Thane. I just don't see my Shepard as caring for Thane in the same way she cares for Garrus. In fact, after several playthroughs I always get this sort of fatherly vibe from Thane. Like Shepard might visit him for counsel, or something.
And I quite like that about him. But it probably keeps him from being in the top five list of characters. He tends to be a much more subdued character. As a hardcore Abe Sapien fan though, I DO love his design.
