I can notice the negative effects more from personal experience, and the last thing I want is ME3 going down that boat just because Kinect was suddenly supporting the game. I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong and shown that programming Kinect was worth the risk of implementing, even WITH what you told me.

Excellent point, but I would only say again, that the time invested to simply sync up the already working VoiceRecog. with dialog and battle command lines, is miniscule in comparison to implementing a full on working Multiplayer system, which is why I was relieved to no extent when GameInformer published that ME3 would remain a single player game.

I thought ME3 is supporting Kinect because I read in another E3-related article that Microsoft is slowing making Kinect-support a requirement for Xbox 360 games (optional for gamers of course).

Source?

It's optional.

Who cares?

*facepalm* If story and choice are intimidating, how does talking to the screen instead of using the thumbstick make things any easier? You still have to play the same story and make the same choices!

You can basically sum up the article this way: Why does ME3 have Kinect support? Because the old rich guy who doesn't know anything about the game is in charge and he wants more money.

I just wonder why it's only on Kinect, as PS3's Playstation Eye also has it's own VR software (afaik). Not to mention loads of software on PC that can be licensed.

As I understand it, the VR software for the Eye has a good deal more programming required on the Developers part vs the Kinect, which is why, (so far it seems)  that only the Xbox version of ME3 will showcase this VR capability.

Or because the Kinect is a relatively new thing and MS just wanted a big name title to support and promote it.

I could understand this if MS still held the publishing rights to the Mass Effect franchise, but they don't anymore, so that lessens the stregnth of this argument considerably, no?

I'm just as relieved as well. Only question I have with the Voice Recognition system is will it pick up every type of voice perfectly (i.e. I sound like Daniel-San from The Karate Kid). My experience with the earlier SOCOM games has been mediocre at best because of the spotty programming of the headset.

Pretty much this.

Even Nintendo started to negotiate with companies for making big name titles on Wii U.

Well hmph. <_<
The 360 has always been the lead platform. Even if it's not an exclusive anymore like ME1, MS probably gave BW more money and support  to implement it.

Wait, previous title was "EA thinks Mass Effect is too complicated and intimidating for casual gamers"?

Geez.

My brain just exploded. :D

I'll expand on my first post a little - don't get me wrong, I love the direction Bioware is taking ME3 and it looks like a fantabulous, amazing and wonderful experience.

Bioware are excellent creators of mature and engaging stories and choices, be they moral or gameplay-wise. Why be so reticent to show off this strength in video games? People play Bioware's games precisely because they have (in comparison to many games) rich stories, human drama and moral quandries. With one or two notable exceptions this has been done extremely well.

I'm just struck by the mindset that complexity is a bad thing, and the assumption that more casual gamers can't understand or appreciate the type of stories told in modern games. Surely quality brings its own market share?

Have you had a chance at all IRL to play with the Kinect? The VR software is really impressive. If me and two friends are sitting in a room, and I am talking to the kinect, it will pick out my voice out of the other ambient voices. Ofcourse once you get the kinect, you'll need to configure it, but the Kinect is leaps and bounds ahead the old SOCOM headset (I bought that when it came out, getting all misty eyed)

If EA wants to start supporting one particular platform over the others, then the first shots in the war have already been fired. <_<

They did state a reason over the course of E3 but I watched and read so many different things in that time that I have no idea which one it was in.

It was basically along those lines, something to do with it using the Kinect microphone software directly instead of a seperate microphone.

It's pretty much a moot point though, it's optional and we'll never know if there was some other reason. I'm inclined to believe it though because i've been told innumerable times around here about how greedy EA are and I would imagine they would see this stuff as selling more units if also available on the PS3. If Microsoft paid for exclusivity that would be really, really, sad. Surely they spent all their pennies on Minecraft 'exclusivity' anyway? *shrugs*

Personally I can't say that this whole thing has sold Kinect or it's potential to me, but it's a step in the right direction (actually using it in conjunction with games instead of just designing games around it, poorly). I still wish they had designed the omni tool to work with it though, and Dance Central: Citadel to Omega is a must down the line.

Yup, And I changed the title to reflect the content, rather than just let a common trolling technique of cherry picking quotes out of context slip by. I posted when I made the changes.

Lol, I see your point,(and personally heavily agree with you) but try to understand mine. A discussion about why other consoles were left out of the VR implementation is another thread entirely, no?

Wasn't it first time fired with PS3 then?

You know bunch of free DLC's during launch, which is understandable. ME2 was out for over a year, so it needed to attract costumers, but selling Comic Genesis later on on XBox 360 even though it is free on PS3?

Really?
Also there is no voice recognition on Move last time I checked and PC gamers don't care about this.

Sadly, I haven't. My 360 is in my bedroom, and I live in an apartment complex, so basically my place of residence is a very sub-optimal location to use Kinect if I were to do the motion-controlled games. How well does the microphone work at your house/apartment?

Mouse offers more precision than any device ever created in the history of consoles. We have no need for slow and cumbersome controllers.

Time to google "Playstation Eye"

Also, if you've spent any time at all the past few weeks here, you should have noticed several large threads from PC gamers asking why the "&^%&" the VR isn't possible for PC gamers with their mic headsets.

The Kinect VR option is neat, but given the amount of dialogue in the game, I can't see myself talking to my TV for a good portion of the 20-40 hours that I'll play Mass Effect 3 (assuming it will be amazing - which I'm still hoping it will be!! :P).

Speaking to the screen Vs hitting a button on the D-pad in the middle of combat? I envision one of those options being slightly riskier than the other depending on how well the VR tech is implemented.

As always, I'll be happy to be proven wrong. :)

I just wish that we had the option to navigate the galaxy map using Kinect - I would be all over that!
