Edit: @Allthatjazz: Are you aware he has been confirmed as returning in some capacity? Or just lamenting the likelihood that it won't be as a perma squadmate? If the latter then I will join you in wishing he was coming back full time.

Thane and Samara, most definitely. Not because I like the characters the best (only true of Samara, I've always been lukewarm to Thane), but because they are my most complementary combat squad in ME2.

Wrex and Jack. I'll go with the complete devastation package, thank you! Wrex is just the definition of tough as nails, and has centuries of battlefield experience. Jack pulls space stations apart with her mind. Kinda feel sorry for the opposition.

For gameplay? Kaidan and Miranda. In Me1 I found that Kaidan was always useful regardless of what class I played because his talents are so varied.
In ME2 I always seem to have Miranda on my team because she has both Warp and Overload.
For roleplay? Kaidan and probably Garrus.

wwhy does everyone think biotics would be unstoppable? they're as vulnerable to a bullet as everyone else and would need to know when to keep their head down.
