So, in what order do you do your quests, what is the most logic one?

Also, which companinons are best to take on those different quests?

I want to mix them around and use them all, so far I've been mostly sticking to Varric and Avelline and have the 3rd one rotate between the others. But after giving Isabela a bit more time in the party I noticed that she's really good in some of the quest I've been doing.

So what do you think?

I can't speak to what may or may not be the most logical path for the order of quests - that's really a matter of opinion in some regard. Personally, I put off starting the main plot quests of each Act until after I had handled a few side quests, then it was a bit of back and forth. I like getting XP and I like amassing small fortunes, so for Act 1, for example, I did everything that I could before starting the Deep Roads expedition, even after acquiring the 50 gold.

As for companions, I found myself generally sticking with party members for both humor and tactical reasons. I was fond of the force of femme fatales - F!Hawke, Merrill, Aveline and Isabela. Not only was their dialogue immensely entertaining, but they made a formidable force.

The breakdown for individual quests will really depend on how you allot each character's attributes. If you're going into a place that may have a lot of locked chests, be sure there is a rogue in your party with a hefty Cunning. Going up against a big bad - you may want to have Anders and his healing spells handy (I took both Merrill and Anders for the Tranquil Solution-related quest). If there are specific quests/battles you have in mind, folks might be able to give you their suggested/preferred mix, otherwise you might be in for some rather long responses. Image IPB

Neutral quests have banter for practically every chr.

Chr specific quests(like ander's) typically have dialogue for that chr(who must attend) and their most direct foil, in anders case that would be fenris.

Quest order is irrelevant.

Not totally. There are quests in the beginning of each act that must be done for a champion to become available. For example, until you do Fenris's Bait and Switch quest, he is not available as a companion.

In addition, certain quest completion trigger other quests. For example, On The Loose triggers about a half dozen new quests when it is completed.

Definitely not irrelevant.  At least in terms of gear and access to combat advantages.

Only 2 playthroughs. I can only contribute that on my 2nd playthrough I started to see a definite advantage to the order of quests if I were to do a 3rd playthrough.

Example: I was a 2H warrior. Getting the idol rune from Varric's personal quest was a top priority. I wanted access to the +38% attack speed bonus for as much of the game as I could.

I like to do the companion quests as soon as they appear. Then side/secondary quests. Then main plot quests which may open more secondary ones. As far as who to take along, I find myslef trying different combinations and just seeing which ones work best with my current Hawke build, then I go with that. I find with different Hawkes, different teams seem to work better.

My favorite party is Varric, Rivaini & Kitten. Lets face the rest are broody or angsty and I prefer to have a fun group. Granted many quests are helpful with others and or more gains to bring some. Be it for rep. Can't take Izzy in to talk to the Arishok for example. The one I use the least is Aveline though. I like her character I just never had a need for her. Especially with some fights that can be over before she's done just shouting. Quest order for me is Companion quests > Side Quests > Progression Quests. Though I tend to do the Qunari ones faster cause I love that entire line.

The sad part is now it's just more mentally a min/max thing. Knowing when to take who that offers the most gains for friendship/rivalry and so on. Knowing which gains are worth getting and not. Even then if I didn't want to bother with that? I could just use console commands but that can take the fun out of it. I do use an addon though to allow companions to have more talent trees though. That way I have more freedom with things like Merrill being able to heal.

I prefer the following system:

In the 1st Act I always take with me Carver (since he'll leave the party later) and Varric (it seems natural to have him help me while I'm preparing for the DR expedition). In the Act 2 it's Isabela and Aveline - since they both play rather large roles in this act. And in the Act 3 my party always has Anders and Sebastian, because of "mages vs Chantry" theme of the final act. For the 3rd place in the party I choose different companions - depending on a quest, my current build or active romance.
