I have been away for the game for about a year and I am having some difficulty beating it.  It is when you are in the fade I think and I cannot beat him, I have defeated him 3 times but he keeps coming back.  Help!

If I have posted this in the wrong place I apologise, this forum is HUGE!

On the upside I had to reinstall my game and I now have in my downloadable content both Shale and the Blood Dragon armor!

Where is the Sloth Demon? In which quests? You must give us details. There are tons of Sloth demons in this game

Welcome back to the game :)

You can find some strategies for fighting the Sloth demon here if you scroll down. He has five forms you have to defeat before you win the fight, I believe, so it can take a while. But if you use your Fade Shapeshifting abilities wisely you can beat him. :)

He means the sloth demon. In the fade. There are only 2 in Origins, one during mage origin, one during The fade. He has a number of forms (5) that you have to defeat, one for each of the demons you kill before him.

Here is the strategy from the wiki, hope it helps:

The fight isn't much different than when you had to solo these same forms prior to reuniting with your companions. The only difference this time is that you are no longer alone, which should make this fight easier. The only real tough part of the fight is when the sloth demon casts blizzard. Just try to "weather the storm" and keep everyone healed until it wears off, or try to keep him from casting it in the first place.

I find that keeping as many people at a distance as possible helps. Use a tank to keep him focused and then everybody else stand back and use ranged or magic attacks. Not only does it reduce the overall amount of damage you take (and your Mage can repeatedly heal your tank, then recharge at a lyrium vein), but more than one of the demon's transformations include a knockback effect, which your ranged party members won't feel. If you're ranged back far enough, too, the final form's Blizzard spell won't be able to reach all four of you. With these tactics the Sloth demon is actually relatively easy if somewhat tedious. It works best, too, if your tank knows and employs Taunt/Threaten.

If you still need advice after consulting the wiki, I apply the same rules to handle him as I do the Sloth Demon: tank, everyone else keep their distance, mage heals tank repeatedly. Poison also helps. Uldred has his demon minions, of course, so your non-tanks and non-mages can concentrate on taking them out. Also be sure to watch for the big magical tornado-thingy that indicates that Uldred is trying to turn more of his Mage prisoners into demons, which will enter the battle and need to be killed if he is successful. As soon as you see the tornado (and Wynne will warn you if she's with your party), use the Litany. This will keep the number of additional enemies you have to face to a minimum. Unless your PC is someone who doesn't care how many Mages actually make it out of this mess alive, in which case forget the Litany, but you'll have more work to do to defeat Uldred. :)

Is there any way I can change my characters? I am running with Sten, Morrigan and the guy that was a grey warden (I have forgotten his name for now). I have not been to the wiki yet.

You cannot change your characters when you enter the tower and being locked. You must proceed your quest anyway

Are you still in the tower?  How do you not have Wynne?  Usually when you start some dungeon run, the game doesn't let you switch party members until you're done.

Btw, the other warden is Alistair.

You can kill Wynne at the beginning of the Circle can't you? So maybe that's how he doesn't have Wynne. You cannot leave the dungeon and you cannot change the party mid-level. Uldred isn't so hard if you use the Scroll when prompted and keep everyone's health above 50%. With two tanks you should be able to switch the aggro with alternating taunts between them. You should focus on killing the adds - they don't have much health and go down fast enough.

I forgot about being able to kill Wynne at the start. Unless the warden is a mage, or Morrigan happens to have more than just heal, it's no wonder people who kill Wynne happen to struggle with this questline. It was designed to be done first, or early on, and shouldn't be too difficult. By killing Wynne, you lose a healing specialist, who has access to heal, group heal and regeneration. The only tough part should be in the fade when you're solo.

I also send the main tank after Uldred while the rest of the party takes out the abominations. With them out of the way, you can focus everything on Uldred. Just keep an eye out for when Uldred tries to convert one of the mages into an abomination or listen for Wynne's signal (if she's in the party), and use the Litany of Adralla. Or, if you want to side with the templars without killing any mages yourself, you can simply play along and let Uldred do his thing and eventually Irving will die when Uldred tries to convert him. You can side with the templars and still have Wynne with you this way.
