I'm hoping we get the option but my Shepard would likely point out that she's a Spectre and answers to the council; not the Alliance.

So angry and indignant I guess.

...Dear coucilor, your highest magistrate and all gathered here.
If you'd be kind enough to look through eastern windshield you will see a magnificent event of falling stars as never seen before.
Oh...did they just ...slow down entering atmo? Does it seem like their freefall is altered and seems to be guided? And why on earth would them meteorites be heading to the coast? I bet you start to fear that these sqid-ilke objects may be some sort of reapers! But as we know that cant be!
Those explosions, and city in flames, falling buildings are just result of mass hallucination. Or my sick mind projecting on all who's here, the images I confabulated when my mental state worsened. A biotic god.
Please be assured I take my daily doses prescribed by an Alliance medical examinator. I can clearly state now that I am feeling better and I can separate the truth from the hallucination. If you feel uneasy with the chaos and pandemonium I advise stop by in the nearest medical facility. There is a chance you are seeing things, just like I was, and need profesional help.
Thank you for your time, I am commander Shepard and this was my favorite trail on extranet.

Ah yes, "Spectre status"...

Besides Saren lost it for attacking Eden Prime.

What makes you think Shepard who works with terrorist organization, blew up a star system with 300 000 people on it and it can also spark a war where even more people can die, can kee his/hers Spectre status?
Besides he/she getting Spectre status back was made private.

Judge: Commander Shepard, if my hands weren't tied by the unalterable fetters of the law, then I would invoke the tradition of our illustrious forebears, reach back to a purer, sterner justice, and have you BURNED AT THE STAKE! Have you anything to say for yourself?

Commander Shepard: Kitten, what I'm saying is, sometimes, Reapers happen, somebody's got
to deal with it, and who you gonna call?

*Cue Reaper Invasion*

Commander Shepard: I have to go *equip shotgun*

Eh, I'll just wait for the blue dialogue option to light up and go auto-pilot from there.

Judge: How do you plead to the execution of 300,000 Batarians?

Shep: 300,000? I thought I got at least half a mil. I must be getting old.

Something like this. But I doubt we will actually be able to do much at the trial.

Assuming we even get to see the trial.

"I'm so, so, so sorry. Now please give me back my ship! *Sad puppy eyes*"

Shep: Why are we even having a trial? I think your honor knows, I think the alliance knows that Im innocent. Case closed. That being said, Id like to play some jazz trumpet for your honor.

I wish. I'm still grumpy about the trial being on Earth and not the Citadel or Arcturus Station but it seems set in stone at this point.

Well that still leaves me with why Shepard is on earth answering to the Alliance rather than the council for that crime...

On a side note: My Shepard screwed Cerberus over in the end. They ain't friends or allies. :?

In fact my Shepard is going to really enjoy slaughtering them all.

AHEMMMMM

...ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense! Why would a Wookiee, an 8-foot-tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of 2-foot-tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.

Judge: "Commander Shepard, you stand accused of treason and crimes against galactic civilization, including but not limited to; association and cooperation with the terrorist hate-group known as Cerberus, and destruction galactic property of historic and economic importance, causing the deaths of three hundred thousand Batarians in the process. How do you plead?"

Shepard: "...Indoctrinated?"

Because this is mainly a problem for the Alliance, not Council.
If there's gonna be a war and Alliance is one to blame, Council won't help.

Also Shepard is officially part of Alliance, not Council.

On a side note: My Shepard screwed Cerberus over in the end. They ain't friends or allies. :?

In fact my Shepard is going to really enjoy slaughtering them all.

They don't know that.
You might tell that and use that as a defense in trial.
