...blackmail the Alliance with the evidence from Kasumi's mission?

Nah, my Shep will probably go red all the way, digging herself proverbial grave deeper and deeper until Reapers attack. Like hell she's going to show any remorse of doing all the dirty work for the Alliance.

Because this is mainly a problem for the Alliance, not Council.
If there's gonna be a war and Alliance is one to blame, Council won't help.

Also Shepard is officially part of Alliance, not Council.

Saren was handled by the Council, not the Turian military - what he did was mostly a problem between Humans and Turians. But it was still handled by the Council and resulted in Shepard being made a Spectre. Even if Saren wasn't part of the Turian military anymore, the problem he caused was potentially between Humans and Turians...

They don't know that.
You might tell that and use that as a defense in trial.

Judge: Shepard, you murdered 300,000 Batarians, destroyed a relay and a system along with it. You've worked with a known terrorist organization and hate group. What do you have to say for yourself?

Shepard: I don't work with Cerberus anymore, and for the record, I have wrecked many of their operations.

Judge: We do not know this for sure, you're known for being one with words.

Shepard: I sent the Alliance years worth of intelligence on Cerberus for them to decode. I could've sent it back to Cerberus because they sent me to retrieve it. I could've kept it to myself because we could've decoded it faster. But no, I "trusted" it with the Alliance. Every step I made with Cerberus was a forced one because no one believed me, no one was looking into the missing colonists.

Judge: What intelligence?

Udina: Shepard is lying, I've no idea what she's talking about. No doubt she's just trying to cover her tracks.

Shepard: Image IPB

Shepard: Ahem... you should by know by my history that my actions are in the interest of saving the greatest number of lives possible in a given situation.

Judge: In the interest of saving us from these so-called "Reapers"?

Shepard: *muttering* Where is Kasumi with her greybox when I need it...

Udina:
What was that?

Shepard: Nothing - just that I'm growing sick of this.

Judge: How dare you - do you realize how serious this is? Do you realize what could happen because of what you've done?

Shepard: War. The Batarians will want blood, don't you think I know that? I did what I had to.

Udina: You should be executed for this!

Shepard:
I already died once, might be fun to see what happens a second time.

Udina:
Not this crap again. No one can be brought back from the dead! This is just further proof that you've lost it!

Shepard:
*checking her omni-tool for the time*

Judge: Commander are you even paying attention?

Shepard:
Sure. To more important things.

Judge: What are you-

*explosions out side, roof suddenly caves in from a Reaper leg and crushes a few people right next to Shepard. Everyone scatters*

Shepard:
*sighs and grabs a pistol. Imitates a panicked silly voice* "Oh no, the Reapers are here, why didn't anyone warn us, please save us Shepard!" *grumbles* Morons. *runs off*

Ah yes, "Canadians", we have dismissed that claim

In all seriousness, I do want a metagame option that says "the game forced me" while the crowd looks on in confusion.

Don't expect to have your spectre status once you are on trial.

That's not up to the Alliance to decide. Not that the Council will hear about the tiral in time. An unfortunate coincidence. Especially the turian councilor will be devastated to hear his favourite Spectre's on trial.

Alliance didn't want to go to war with Turian Hierarchy nor did they put fingers on them.
And attack on Eden Prime was made by Geth.

Batarian Hegemony wants to go to war with Alliance and they finally have an excuse.
Also Batarians have reports that there are humans trying to blow up Alpha Relay and they probably heard name Kenson from Shepard few times and her pictures on security cameras. She is known to be in Alliance.
So Alliance has to prove that they were not involved and they have to point finger on someone and Shepard is perfect scapegoat to avoid war.

I lol'd but there's a lot of metagaming there.

Shepard doesn't know for how long he/she slowed down Reapers.
Kenson says it might take months or years for Reapers to get to the closest Mass Relays, not 2 months.

And Arrival takes place after SM by canon.
It doesn't matter you played before SM, events of Arrival happen 4 to 10 months after SM.

Yeeees. But by the time Shepard is on Trial, there's a giant fleet of ships chilling out over Earth.

And apparently the reporters are retarded in 2185 because No! An unknown fleet of ships is gathering in Earth's atmosphere? They're not gathering for an attack! Surely not!

Actually those are Alliance ships( and that doctor ****** probably counted Alliance fighters as ships too), listen more careful. It tricked me too.
Maybe Hackett and Anderson menage to convince to put fleet at Earth.
Plus Batarians got hit first( hence the Canibal husks).

Also it's 6th June 2186.

I give up...Shepard is going to get politically raeped either way T-T

Why is the Alliance fleet gathering around Earth in the first place? To protect against Batarians or to contain Shepard?

My little paragon spacer hopes that mom Shepard will be at the trial for moral support =)

But yes, it will be a heartfelt "If there had been any other way I would have not have done this". My little paragon-FemShep is always trying to do the right thing. Unless she's really really irritated, then things go boom.

Judge: *reads off the list of charges* So Shepard, how do you plead?

Shepard: I plead-

Udina: SHUT UP! You have the right to remain silent!

Shepard: ...I plead the fifth.

Anderson: Let Shepard talk.

Udina: NO!

Anderson: *punches udina again*

*The reapers show up*

Shepard: Ah yes "Reapers"

I imagine my Shepard is going to be indignant as all hell- I tried to warn them, it's not my fault the Alliance thought it was a GREAT IDEA to let civies infiltrate Batarian space and then let 'em get indoctrinated. Oh no, giant glowing alien thing, of course I'll do whatever you say!'

If there's a sarcastic bastard dialogue option, I will be all over that.

I think it is all about politics. In case of the vanilla, non ME1 imported character Shepard cant become a Spectre again. The council refuses to meet him. So they let Ashley join the Spectres to replace their former hero commander Shepard. I think Udina now wants to make sure Shepard wont get back into business, and the alliance needs someone to take the blame for what happened. So the entire process is a pure sharade. It wont matter what the commander says, the jury has already decided about his fate: Deathpenalty to get rid of him. they have their new Spectre with a clean history. And all this Reapertalking isnt welcome too, so Shepard has to be gone once and for all.

I wouldnt "defend" myself, i would counterattack and show the galaxy the truth about this entire trial crap. Also i wont apologize. A man makes his decisions and lives with them every day. My last words: "You may kill me, but you cant kill the truth. Mark my words when the galaxy is burning."

But since i went the paragon way in ME1 and ME2 i would take all the blame about what happened and live with it. Anderson as member of the council and Heckett as a "friend" inside the fleet should be able to prevent or delay the death penalty until the Reapers arrive. And then the death of this batarian slaverscum doesnt matter anyway.

The way Shepard looks at the ingamescreenshots he had a rough time, maybe in a jail waiting for his trial.

I'm just going to tell them the truth. Then the Turian Councilor is going to say, "Ah yes, "Reapers". We have dismissed that claim."
