Curiously enough, I've already started working on my defense here.

Excerpt:

"DNA scans show you are indeed Commander Shepard, Alliance Military, member of the N7 program and former Spectre."

"No, I mean...Whoa, hold on there! What's that about me being a former Spectre? I always sided with the Council in all my playthroughs and they always got my back, albeit reluctantly and if only to get me out of their sight for the foreseeable future. Last I remember they reinstated my Spectre status?"

"That was before you blew up an entire star system!"

"The Chair will remind Admiral Chantillas not to speak out of turn!"

"Well, when the alternative is 'critical mission failure' you don't really have much of a choice, do you?"

If it's good enough for the council it's good enough for the judge.

Do we know against what charges we will be defending ourselves?

Sure - we can assume it's the Batarian's from "The Arrival" - but Admiral Hackett states pretty clearly that nobody would ever know it was Shepard.

I think someone said it prior to this - but I think it's going to be a Court Marshal that basically runs through everything in ME 2. A series of questions like Miranda asks you in the beginning of ME 2.

Shepard: I call upon the defense, Tali'Zorah vas Normandy.

*Tali starts walking back and forth exaggeratedly, pounding her fists on some desks*

Tali: "...Dis man seved your asses once already, and he got you on that damn Council..."

Judge pounds gavel.

Garrus: "OBJECTION!"
Judge: "Dismissed!"
Grunt: "OBJECTION."
Judge: Image IPB

Later on...

Prosecution: "We bring forward exhibit A, which... Wait, where is it?"

*Kasumi cloaks out of the courtroom*

Mordin: "Prosecution can't keep organized. Sign of weak evidence. Most unprofessional."
Jack: "Pffft. Retards."
Prosecution: "Objection! I demand you have her thrown out of court, your Honour!"
Zaeed: "That's Guddamn suicide!"

*Shepard's been curled up the whole time with his fists in his mouth, sobbing with laughter. He recovers, stands up and says:*

Shepard: "I..." *chortles* "I call Thane Krios as my witness!"
Thane: "Flying late out of Omega. Kelly, dancing on the table. Jacob stares intently. "The Priiize! Show me the Priiize!"
Judge: "Enough of this ridiculousness! Shepard, I find you--"

*Building shakes, Reapers crash down outside of courtroom. Shepard locks stare swith a stunned Garrus, and he nods.*

Shepard & Garrus, with airquotes: "Ah, yes, Reapers...!"

Everyone gets the hell outta there.

As Shepard, I would likely resign myself to my fate. That Batarian Colony was destroyed as a result of my actions even after I warned them. Besides, Shepard is one dangerous son of a ****, which would mean maximum security prison. I would likely be kept separate from other prisoners and have my own cell. I wouldn't care if I was convicted. I did what I had to and when the Reapers showed up, they'd let me out.

My defense will depend a little on which of my Shepard's I'm playing. My Spacer/War Hero Paragon Shepards will readily admit their guilt, but argue that it was necessary to stop the Reaper invasion. Plus, they DID try to warn the batarian colonists (and I'm sure that the batarians will have audio records of it. How else would they be able to have evidence that Shepard was even in the system after all?), so he has that in his defense.

My Earthborn/Sole Survivor Paragades won't admit guilt unless the evidence is absolute. Their defense will probably hinge on the fact that there's no proof that Shepard was the one who ACTUALLY activated the Project. They know he/she was there (again, because they tried to warn the batarians), but there's no proof that they were actually responsible for the disaster.

My Colonist/Ruthless Shepards HATE batarians and don't feel at all guilty about sacrificing the 300,000 colonists. They freely deny that they were even in the Bahak system (and they never warned the colonists) and that this whole trial is a witch-hunt.

A lot of awesome stuff.

Loved that.

Hmm, think we will be able to declare the entire court out of order?

And i STILL don't get why my renegade shep had to come back. I told the council to shove it, often. I told the Illusive man to shove it, often. I have just about killed my way through the entirety of the Terminus.

There better be an option to shoot my way out of this. Anything less would severely be a breach of my Shepards character ;)

Oooh, I could perhaps settle for that.

There is too much potential in this trial. You could make an entire game based on it im sure, and I would enjoy every second of it Image IPB

@MigoTheGIgo - maybe you went back to tell off the Alliance? Running from the Alliance doesn't seem Renegade... picking a fight with them though? I think it works well.

Think of it this way... no matter how bad ass you are, if the Alliance declares you a criminal and an outlaw... you won't ever be able to rally the galaxy behind you.

So sometimes even Renegades have to suck it up for the pansy pencil pushers... even if it's just until you can find 'em in a dark alley some time after the trial.

Judge: Commander Shepard. In light of your recent actions, you are being trialed on condemning 300,000 batarians to death, destroying the Alpha Relay which annihilated a nearby batarian colony, working the terrorist organization Cerberus, and betrayal of the Alliance. How do you plead to these claims?

Shepard: *reclined in chair with feet propped up on table in front reading the Mass Effect 3 guide*
Well according to this I should just stay put and....5....4....3....2....

Udina: Shepard, what the hell do you think yo--

*Reaper crashes through courthouse and chaos ensues*

Shepard: And there we go.

*Pulls out gun and jumps into action*

Ah...I can see how that works:

JC: "If the glove don't fit, you must acquit!"
Prosecution: "But there is no glove."
JC: "The defense rests."

If that doesn't work, we can just press the easy button.
