So why do we want this? Its to be politically correct, not for actually content that we intend to use.

I'm a heterosexual male. I intend to make a homosexual male Shepard. This argument tends to fall flat because gays & lesbians (and bisexuals) aren't the only ones who utilize same sex content.

I dress a little 'girly', does that mean I'm gay? Who cares about the person's sexuality, it's none of any of our concern.

With that said, I don't think people have a problem with the possibilty of being able to be romantically involved with someone of the same gender. Remember, Mass Effect has fans who may be gay or bi. And if they want to have the opportunity for their Shepard to smack on the ass of Thane and give him a big smooch while the play as a male, why not?

Not everyone who wants these options are themselves gay, you know. A lot of us like to play Shepards who differ from us. It's called roleplaying.

I stopped reading there. Firstly there is already a thread discussing this and it's even on the first page. Secondly I think you're wrong, this forum seems to have a high proportion. Not surprising really, given it's a Bioware forum.

I would actually bet on the idea that most gamers that romanced Liara with Femshep were male and not lesbian.

Imo, most of the "we don't need s/s content in ME" comments originate from men who specifically do not want *m/m* content in ME.

No doubt.

Most annoying.

I don't know, two issue..

1. Way too many topics here in this forum about same sexuality thing...
2. Squad mates sexuality should not change based Shepards sexuality.

Player choose what they are and squad mates personality or sexuality should be defined by story writes, not by players.

**** it.

I'm going to Bioware, and I'm going to march right into Casey Hudson's office, and demand that all romances be pulled from the game. It's just too much! Too much time spent on discussing fictional boyfriends/girlfriends, and not enough time being spent on the game itself.

Let's be honest here. NONE of you probably have ever had a girlfriend and/or boyfriend, and neither have I. But why is this all we care about? Because we are blending this game with reality. ROMANCES IN A VIDEO GAME ARE NOT REAL LIFE, GET OVER YOURSELF.

So, I'm going to Edmonton, and 'm making sure none of you are having ANY kind of romance in ME3. All because of you.

You hear that? NO ROMANCES FOR ANY OF YOU AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT.

All these threads are exactly the reason why we were 'banned' from talking about issues like this. And I don't care what side of it you're on- proving that we're too immature to talk it out in one thread is kinda embarrassing.

As you may already be aware, many studios nowadays are putting their politics into their games. You don't have to look hard to see it.

Assassin's Creed promotes nihilism.
CoD is all "government conspiracy theory."
And there are countless others out there.

As such, Bioware is attempting to champion the so-called "gay rights" agenda. It has NOTHING to do with fan demographics. It is about using their profession to impress their worldviews onto their fans. They want you to be all "gay is cool" so they make games in which "gay is cool."

The move is what I like to call "political peen fItexure." It is really that simple. Characters are gonna be gay or bi and you're gonna like it!

I'd exchange romance for more developed friendship/rivalry paths anyday.

You make a mistake in thinking that people who play homosexual Sheps (or whatever relationships in games where it is possible to be homosexual) are actually homosexuals. Many are not. There are not enough gay-people to make devs take a step to bring same sex-options, but there are enough gamers wanting that, and it has nothing to do with political correctness, or sexual preferences. Take me for example, for I'm definitely a heterosexual woman. I like to play male characters. They are all gay. Why? Because I'm not into women. So my Shepard is not into women. If there is not an option to be gay, I just overlook romances, or use mods. It is a question about variety and choice, and yeah, I think those who are gay have every right to have their romantical needs fulfilled too. And only reason to have romances in GAME in first place is to full romantical needs we all have. That is what devs are aming for.

Why it bothers you if someone wants to have a gay romance in game, is beyond me. You can play your game like it does not exist and every character is pure heterosexual puritanist.

When did this become such a huge issue? Is this really a deal breaker for people? Shepard suddenly becomes gay after 2 games? "Hey the universe is ending, might as well try it out"? It just seems like such a trivial issue...

ME is not a romance simulator lol.

In the same of Chris Priestly and all the holy moderators, this issue is ridiculously blown out of proportion.

There's three topics running on it.

Optional options are optional.

Lets be honest with ourselves for 5 seconds. How many of us here are gay/lesbian? My guess would be not many. Now sure I know one girl who happens to be bi, and I'm in college so thats no surprise, and I know a dude who dresses a little girlly so who knows with him.

My point is why is there such a massive support for having same-sex relationships in mass 3. Frankly I highly doubt that any type of large precentage of people will ever use it. So why do we really want the same sex scenes? Its because many who would play a game with an M rating probably support gay/lesbian rights. So why do we want this? Its to be politically correct, not for actually content that we intend to use.

Now that said, many parts of the game are designed for just a small precentage of the poplation of mass effect players, but come on this gay/lesbian issue is really kindof out of hand on this forum. Every day I come on here to see a million posts on it when it is already confirmed to have some role in the game. If thats a feature that excites you thats great, but when I play mass effect I dont want shepard constantly trying to make friends with the new male squadmates just to have them ask, "wait a min are u hitting on me?" as if in the future everyone will be bisexual or something.

Instead I think it would be fine to have a male chacter who was gay, or a femaile character who was lesbian and that charcter would be unavaible for the traditional romace. This would be more realistic and would also help the game seem more genuine. Frankly, having everyone be bi will just ruin the game for me, and to add this in just to satisfy the need to be politically correct to every possiblity is just the wrong way to play this issue. I thought just having the asari alone was a good way to tackle this issue of gender in a new a creative way, but now we have to add in homosexuality within the species as well to satisfy every possible romance? What about the other races, can I get wrex and grunt to fall in love too? If there are intersquad romances can they all be homosexual? This endless satisfying of diverse needs for different content has to be somewhat mesured. Like I said one male, one female, or have shep decide at the start of 3 what his/her orintation is so that the romance options are all altered in the game. This is probably the simplist approach, but not the most realistic one.

I know this is a long post, but I'm just trying to be honest about this whole thing without being misunderstood. This will be a small part of a 20+ hour game, much like the already existing romance options avaible in the traditional sense. The love scenes are always short little implied snips of "stuff happening" which has always been the right way to approach this type of thing.  A kiss and a bending over to the bed is all that has ever been shown and I assume thats what bioware will do here as well. Just don't make it a central part of the game, because most players will never even use this feature.

As far as me personally on this issue of homosexuality. I'm fine with people doing what they want, so long as it doesnt infringe on doing what I want as well. All I'm asking for is that no one force the entire universe to become bi-sexual over this. In my book the sexual no-no's are affiars, orgys, homosexuality, and children. But im sure someone on this forum wants an orgy to be in mass effect so is that what we have to put in next as well? My point is find a reasonable line to draw and everyone is satisfied. B)

See what I mean.  I made a post about the actually gameplay yesterday and I think it got like 57 comments in a day or something. Just because I put S/S in the forum for two seconds I already have 10 comments? Really? See this issue is out of hand. and thats kindof my point. <3 divides all!

Actually I really want my romances =) It makes me happy to see a love story play out in the middle of my awesome FemShep saving the galaxy. It would make me really sad if this was taken away. Not just a love story, a good romance-arc means a lot to me. I may be in a minority but if a lot of people discuss it, perhaps it's important to them to.

And if you do not wish to pursue a romance I am sure that you can avoid that.

I really don't think you are in the minority. Romances have been a (very popular) feature of BW games ever since BG2.

It's the discussion that gets people. A paralell is Tali: discussion of her turned many of the indifferent into haters.
