Well since there seems to be FIVE topics on the subject of romance (including this one) I would have to say to some romance is an important part in ME games.

I personally don't care who gets to bone whom in the game.  I just wish people would stop making multiple topics about romance on this board.  If you have something to say about romance either for or against then use an existing romance thread.

Reality is that any good life has a romance in it of some kind. (sorry to all those who havnt dated or anything yet) But its just the truth. Who you are with is the most important choice you can make in life IMO. Mass effect is the first game to really offer that up as a tangible part of the story so people are shanking eachother on here to get what they want. No surprise really.

It's an optional part.

And it's optional to buy the game at all.

Honestly, i can't see why people should be bothered by it. Don't want it, don't do it, that's why it's optional.
It's like complaining about jelly on your cheese sandwitch, you don't have to eat it.

Question: Do you think I'm complaining about there being romances? Because there's a possibility you might be missing what I'm saying...

That doesn't mean people can't talk about it. Even if many people don't think it's the most important issue in the game, it's one of the few things we KNOW will be in Mass Effect 3. It can also be a rather variable issue (like we have seen with the same-sex romance). Thus, it's a bit easier to talk about than other parts of the game because we already know so much about it, but there is also a lot that can change about it.

Shepard IS a Soldier and usually they dont pursue relationships while theyre working(Shepard saving the galaxy) and when you know that every day could be theyre last. You dont want sucha complicated situations while your doing sucha dangerous work. Most logical is to me that when Reapers are destroyed, then you would pursue Romance and that stuff not at work. This is only my opinion tho and every people are different who have their own perspectives about this kind of stuff.

Shephard is more like a special agent (he is a Spectre, after all)...more like James Bond than faceless marine nr. 20234, soon to die at the front lines.

I'm going to replay ME2 and make sure everyone romancable dies.

That... is a bit harsh don't you think? Seeing as romance is optional you could just NOT romance anyone?

Discussing romances doesn't bug me at all. I actually really like them. Having 4 or 5 separate threads arguing the same bull **** does, however. Why can't you keep it contained?

Romance must not be so important, as it hasn't been in NWN or Knights of the old Republic.

Some people are missing the point. I think the OP is talking about making multiple threads on the same subject, not talking against discussing it at all.

Pretty much. Though Revan's romance with Bastila did add a little extra to the story, especially in the final part of the game imo.

If multiple threads on the subject are the problem, that makes OP part of the problem, having made yet another romance discussing thread themself.

True, I also wish he(she) had not made one, as this adds to it.

If that's the case, then rather than making another thread on the front page about it, the OP should PM a moderator and ask them to handle the issue.  One forum goer starting a discussion about this isn't going to stop others from making more threads about the issue.

Only the first line was a direct reply to you BBW, the rest was just a general rant.

In ME2, I thought the characters and the romances were far more interesting than the actual story.

Might be mixed in ME3, though.

My own "canon" Shepard hasn't romanced anyone yet and I don't see him romancing anyone in ME3 either. In the first two games there were far more important things at stake. The last thing my Shepard would do is compromise his attention to anything other than saving/preserving the galaxy. Since the stakes increase by about ten fold in ME3 I expect my Shepard to remain devoted to the cause and nothing else.

With all that said I get romances have their appeal and respect those who choose to pursue them. But yes, it does irk me a little when you see 3 or 4 (maybe more) romance threads to every other topic thread and the intensity of the fanboydom/fangirldom causes me to laugh aloud quite frequently.
