E3 is (nearly) over. What have we seen? (AKA Where is the role playing?)

So, what have we seen from ME3?
1. Faster, more mobile combat.
2. Canon breaking lightsaber.
3. Shepard can roll.
4. ...
5. ...

Well, that really was it.
To go back a few days, the first post I made in this sub-forum was "Where is the role playing?".
In it there was of course the usual flaming by twitch kiddies but in the end the official response was "E3 is not over. We will show role playing later".

That "later" would be "now" (if not "yesterday"). Still, the only word on roleplaying is weapon customization and skill tree.
So I repeat the question, where is the role playing?

Or does Bioware now think role playing is weapon  customization and skill trees? (If yes, Crysis 2 is a RP game...)

They don't want to spoil any plot points by showing us any impoirtant conversations methinks.

The weapon mod stuff looks great. New skill trees seem much deeper than ME1 or 2. Not sure what else you want at this point.

There was a workbench that clearly showed weapon customisation and we got to see the skill customisation screen for Shepard, Liara, and Garrus. Looked like RPG elements to me. Also, check out the confirmed features thread (link in signature), lots of goodies there.

The actual RPing takes places in conversation of which we saw little of because the demos were focused on gameplay, but there was that neat little scene with the kid in the vent. If that didn't touch your RP senses, I'm not sure what will.

I'm not really sure what you're looking for. We know ME3 will have plot and branching dialogues. We know that they are going to have the decisions we made in earlier games resolve themselves. We know we are going to have multiple endings.

As far as RPG features, most people appeared to be interested in the character customization: armor, weapons, skill trees, etc. Bioware has said that they will show us stats, we will be able to mod our weapons, we will have more options, we will have helmets, we will have deeper skill trees.

Again, exactly what did you want to see?

lol @ canon-breaking lightsaber.

You people will literally complain about anything. Each day I have less and less faith in humanity as a whole.

Just look at this Machinima interview:
http://www.youtube.c...Y2C62xo&list=SL
The BioWare guys will be longing long enough to let you pause and watch over the revamped (yet temporary, still unfinished) skills evolution tree and the workbench for the weapon mods, but they didn't shown the new inventory, armor specialization and so on, even if Casey Hudson confirmed them.
We still have 9 months before the game is out, so please cut the whine for a couple of months atleast! Casey promised us more informations for the GDC in mid august, so just wait ;)

IMHO it looks, on an RPG side, deeper than the first.

I'm satisfied with everything they showed to us. The combat was great and what they could show of dialogue got me excited to see the rest of the conversations.

There.

Happy?

Ignore the Paragon/Renegade lines on the companions. They won't be there in the final game.

You really think that they're going to spoil any RPG elements in goddamn E3? We were lucky to see a few dialogue options.

its becoming a habit today of people making threads complaining about stuff without doing any research into the subject so they're flat out wrong lol.

Like others have posted, you need to elaborate on what you want to see as far as "RPG Elements" for they vary greatly from one person to another and honestly I never thought any game in the Mass Effect series was a deep role-playing game.

Roleplaying revolves around playing a role, and obviously to do something substantial they'd need to give away the story. Unless you're referring to the stat-based gameplay which is typically associated with a roleplaying game, then I can't answer you. But we've seen skill trees and weapon customisation, and I assume they want to save some things to show at things like PAX.

They showed some of the RPG stuff. Pretty much everything that wouldn't reveal too much in fact. I hope they change the Paragon/Renegade bar. Having 2 separate meters is a Mass Effect staple.

Tall girls are more fun. We should be allowed to shrink our team mates. Now there's a RPG feature.

I actually would have preferred my Male!Shep to be shorter, but wasn't she half a head shorter than him in ME1? Of course, so were Fem!Shep and Ashley due to the same body models. Still breaks the immersion a bit for me.

They didn't show any roleplaying stuff, no.

They showed different aspects of the combat engine, but the only thing that was even close to show us something about roleplaying was a disheartening "doesn't matter which option you take, the outcome will be the same" sequence.

So... yeah.... Don't expect too much outside of a regular shooter :(
