This video sums it up pretty well I think, your thoughts?

Note: I am not trying to troll, the video was made in a fun, satirical manner.

(Mass Effect is one of my all time favourite franchises)

I can't stand gimmicky NewFan gaming devices. I just want to sit and chill when I play games and I don't need to speak to issue simple orders. Ghost Recon did that on original Xbox and it was more lame than just using the controller.

Gimmicks like 3D and Kinect detract from the game because they take up time and focus and mental energy and they disturb the balance of the universe and I wish people would stop buying this stuff so it goes away but I understand I'm probabaly outnumbered and the NewFans will never stop until games are streamlined down to waving your arms about and shouting at the TV yeah RAD man rad just flail and yell in my rpg messin around with pixels in 3D damnit.

Games should only be made for one niche damnit. Casuals don't deserve games damnit. RPGs are superior to everything damnit.

I have to agree with MonkeyLungs (cool name btw) I hate when things like kinect and 3d become the focal point of games, and instead of making a great game that focuses on story and gameplay we have to deal with "Oh look how neat this thing is! Look what we did with the technology!"

Edit: I should state I don't believe this will happen with Mass Effect, Bioware is one of the few companies I still trust.

RPG's are the best type of video game. The more complex the better. The more non combat skills and gameplay the better. Combat is cool too.

I realise Microsoft is really pushing Kinect and maybe it's just time for me to go back to PC gaming.

I'm still using Win98Se though ... guess I better upgrade!

Damn kids on my lawn trearin it up with your velcro shoes and your fancy scooters!!!! Damnit.

This is such a non-issue.

If it doesn't work, people won't use it.

If it draws in some new customers, at least a few might say, "This looks like a good game," drop the Kinect thing and do it right.

There is no downside here. Players won't have to use it to access any content.

And FluffyScarf is more right than people know.

In reality Kinect support won't eat up that much Dev time, sure if they were using mics on all platforms and had to program the voice recognition themselves but since all the voice recognition is handled by the kinect its really cutting down on all the work done by the devs. I can see myself using it, it'll cut down on how much I pause.

We need that gun for Shep to use at some stage. That'll make mince metal of them Reapers. Just make it controllable with the Kinect. :?

If you don't have a Kinect it doesn't matter, why bother complaining about it at all?

I want a full-size poster of this. I'm serious.

Also, I now desperately need to know how to post pix in threads. This one is a keeper.

You need an account with an image hosting site. I would recommend Photobucket, as they tend to give you the link with image code once you have the pic uploaded to their site.
In case you use another provider, you use the IMG tags as per the following example
[img ]http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y74/Bogsnot/rpgelite.jpg[/img ]
but remove the spaces from between the IMG and the ]

Heres the link to the file in all its glory, without the motivational text and border.

Wake me up when gaming won't be about controllers but about games again.

See I'm half and half on that, telling a character to overload a target means less pause time which is good, but from the demo I have to point my cursor away from the target or my direction of travel just to issue a move order, and to make matters worst the order takes a single button click by that point, that's bad. Even if it makes some of the job easier from a programming stand point there's no getting around the fact that they're using the Kinect as a $150 microphone. That's just stupid.

Yes if you don't want to use it no worries, that's great and all but the Kinect isn't "revolutionary" for being a mic. I have headsets that can do that. It's "an amazing technological marvel" because it can "see" what I'm doing. In combat you don't give directions to teamates with your rifle, you keep that on target, if I want Garus to take cover I would just point at the cover and tell him to get over there. In that situation there would be no pause and my reticule would never be bothered with having to give orders. That wouldn't even be a game breaker for other platforms either. If you couldn't do it, no big loss, but if you can then it lets you use the $150 hardware in an useful, natural way.

I don't think using it poorly will break the game for me, but I don't get why they bother using it at all if they don't plan on fully using it. The voice commands could be kind of nice, but again...$150 mic? Really?

I lucked out, because I already own a Kinect.  I bought one for my 2 girls last Christmas.  My oldest has Dance Central, and my youngest has Kinectimals.  We've been buying some more games for it since, because it really is an interesting device.

Dare I say it?  I shall!  It's actually pretty damn fun. :wizard:

Don't get stuck, fellow gamers!  New things can be good things.   I know, I know....  Sometimes new things are scary:ph34r:

I, for one, am looking forward to trying it out with ME3.

Just being able to yell at Kaidan and Garrus to do things will be fun. :D

Anyway, they certainly aren't twisting your arms and yelling at you to go buy one for this game.  If you want one, fine.  If not, that's fine, as well.  There's no reason to have a freak out.  Oh wait.  I forgot where I was for a minute.

I have a Kinect as well, and I'll admit when I first saw it, I thought it was dumb. Then my dad got one and we played for a while and it's pretty fun. :]

Anywho, it's not like it matters to me, I play ME on PC. If enough people here on the forums say good things about the Kinect features on the 360, I might rent a copy just to try it out.

But in the end, if you think it's stupid, don't use it. There are sill plenty of games out there that don't use Kinect/Wii/Move/whatever.
