I did a vanguard, halfway through a soldier run, started an adept......I'm trying to get myself off my love of biotics classes.... and I prefer hybrid classes....

Sneaking up on enemies and shotgunning them in the back is fun.

It is a good sniping class, though I prefer Soldier and AR for sniping and Infiltrator for CQC.

You cloak and the enemy goes panic shouting "Lost sight of enemy!".
It's a fun class. You can do long range combat with the sniper, go invisible with the cloak and get close to them with the tempest/shotgun or even melee them to death.

You answered that question yourself.
Also, am I the only one getting annoyed by the endless number of people asking this very same type of question?

No, I'm on the same boat...Actually I was thinking about making a topic with all that was already posted on those forums <_<

Sniping is cool but I love the Infiltrator cloaked and at close quarters with a shotgun. My Shep is the type that likes being in the trenches with his squad and not way in the background sniping. Although I do that on occasion if the situation warrants it to provide cover for my squad. The sniper rifle is the Infiltrator's most powerful attack.

The class has some sniping advantages but the Soldier can also do a very good job at sniping. Using the Infiltrator Cloak to sneak around and reposition [for CQC] might be one of the better things about them.

I play the Infiltrator mainly as a sniper. Besides the cloak, the Infiltrator gets a time dilation effect when he zooms in with the sniper scope. Doesn't have the damage bonus of the Soldier's AR, but you get the time slow-down to help you aim (and reduce the amount of time you're out of cover from the enemy viewpoint). It's also a passive ability, so you can keep using it while also spamming your other powers and never have to wait for a cool-down to wear off (as with sniper-Soldier and AR).
Firing from Cloak does give a damage boost, and if you prefer sniping, you can use the cover provided by Cloaking to move around to better sniping positions safely, then get off a damage-boosted shot if you have time. I found myself sniping more with my Widow Infiltrator than my Widow Soldier. Not having an assault rifle to fall back on kept me concentrated on sniping.
Inferno is a useful power for taking down health and armor. 1 point in AI hacking makes many missions easier (I prefer 1 point to upgraded hacking since it doesn't give the hacked target extra shields). That way your hacked target is often killed before the hack wears off, any damage it does to other enemies is a bonus. The real value is that other enemies turn to fire on the hacked mech, giving you time to snipe them while they're distracted. Not giving your hacked target a shield also means you can hack the last enemy standing, then either pop them with an unhurried headshot, or walk up and elbow them to death while they are still friendly.

The fact that soldiers are also good snipers is not relevant. You are not wrong when you talk about CQC, but I think "some sniping advantages but the soldier ..." makes it sound like there´s nothing special about infiltrators when it comes to sniping, which is very far from the truth.
Anyway the question in the OP is a bit redundant. Start up an infiltrator. Watch gameplay videos. Read guides on the forums. Play with character builds. This will give you a much better idea of how much you will like the class than asking a bunch of people with different tastes. I am not saying this because I am annoyed or angry or anything. This is just what works best in my experience.
But since you asked.... You should play an infiltrator because they are awesome. And by playing one, you will become a better person. I promise.
