I was wondering if it has something to do with character popularity or something else entirely.

I think it's part character popularity with the fanbase and part character popularity with the writers/developers.
She's moderately well-liked by those who don't romance her.  Some people don't like how integral she is to the plot, or how much screen time she's given.  Others don't like that they don't have the option to not be her friend in-game.  Obviously you haven't seen the "Did Liara rape Shepard?" thread, but there's also a small subset of the base that loathes her in every way, and can see no good in her.

If i remember correctly, Tali was not supposed to be a squadmate in me3, but BW made her a squaddie due to her popularity, so Liara is not the only one getting special treatment :bandit:

What's the latest on the Liara romance dialogue bug? From the first conversation aboard the Normandy, when she says something about not seeing Shepard for years. It was strange, since the rest of the LotSB stuff seemed to be acknowledged.

There isn't anything new. Its a code bug, and it's a minor cosmetic issue that's likely not going to get fixed. You will have to head cannon the correct line.

Actually I found the solution to that conversation problem :P
You have to set the value 6941
to True, then Liara will say: "I'll always remember that tour of the Normandy, but let's be honest, Shepard. It's been more than a half a year."

instead of
"It's been years since we were together. Are you still interested in us?"

Partly
popularity, partly because Liara was sidelined in ME 2 proper, and some
people weren't too happy. Tali already featured in ME 2 and had a big
part in the story, more DLC on her wouldn't make sense.

And it
was helping to flesh out a story arc they brought up in the comics, so I
figure it wasn't exactly hard to see LOTSB coming, because it would
have had to come up at some point, something to do with Liara and the
SB. At least BW weren't so crass as to throw in a  "Buy moar DLC" at the
end of ME 2.

Humm that makes sense. I'm glad that her absence on our squad got feedback from the fans.

I loved ME2's DLCs... well, altho' Arrival was VERY frustrating to me... but LOTSB went beyond my expectations, really. I think I fell in love with Liara all over again.

Oh yeah I didn't saw that amusing thread on rape but I can see what would I have encounter there... geez those fans... I saw a person saying that he hated Liara because she "invited herself to my ship" on ME1. That made me realize how people percieve her in diferent lights.

I'm glad the devs/writers like her enough to give us all those warm moments. <3 She does deserve the love we give her :D

This should be in the main-thread, because I don't think BW will fix this. Like they never fixed Conrad Verner bug.
Thanks for posting. :o

@TheMarshal. Sometimes I bother writing in hate threads, but this thread was too much for me.
I understand that people who romanced her, want to interpreted that Liara is pregnant since this sequence and that's fine by me.

But how did you even get the idea in the friendship scene!? wtf...

Liara got her own DLC in ME2, her own comic (soon to be 2), plot armor throughout the entire series, has the only romance that can be truly sustained throughout all three games, and a tastefully done erotic love scene.  I love Liara and all, but she got preferential treatment above and beyond any other squaddie.

My friend plays with a straight femShep and she told me she likes Liara but she feels like all her romance possibilities are just ok (or even meh) compared to Liara/Shep.

But wait, will there be another comic?

Once you have your save file open in the editor, go to the plot tab. In the Bool section, type in the value you are looking for then click the Get button. It will display if it is true or false. If false, select the "is set" checkbox and click on the Set button to confirm. There's a link to the Gibbed ME3 editor in my sig area if you need a direct link.

I was wondering if it has something to do with character popularity or something else entirely.

I think she was very popluar after ME1. She was the only "exotic" love interest in the game after all. And a favourite of the writers. And famous too thanks to FOX News :P

So I'm pretty sure that's why they decided to give her a more important role In ME2 & 3. And from what I have seen that had a bit of an radicalizational effect on the community. Many still "just" like her, but as some got more extreme in their fandom (who would that be, I wonder?) others started to resent her for all the attention and screentime she got.

Add the very popular characters and romance options added in ME2 and I'd even suspect that the overall number of her "real" fans has actually declined a bit. At least I don't see her very often at the top of the "most popular character / love interest" polls anymore. That was very different in ME1 times ...

Kilshrek wrote...
I'll have to work that one out myself huh... Okiedokies..

And
I just saw that on RPS. I don't think it's really on the mark, simply
because the story on ME 2 was leaning towards dark energy/matter being
the end game story, not spacegodchild. And beings, plural. Either way
the end is still a load of steaming... because, well, it failed to
deliver.

Tangentrantoff.

Nah, don't think that was deliberate either. Bioware talked themselves about how much the plot and characters can change over time. And as far as I know there wasn't even a single member of the ME1 writing staff working on ME3 anymore.
But still, interesting find ...

And if you really want to know, I recommend starting with a picture-google of Liara's omni tool.
But don't say I didn't warn ya ...

I'm pretty sure that they always wanted Liara to be important for the main plot.
Protheans are very important for the ME Universe and in my opinion, there is no doubt, that she had to be an important part of the series.

I'm not so sure if it was always planed that she would become the SB. That would be very interesting for me to know.
