 So, I'm curious. What background does the people here have for their favourite Shepard and how has it influenced their Sheps relationship with Liara?

For me, my Shepard is a colonist, and one of the reasons she joined the Alliance was to make sure no one else had to go through what she did. This is what drove her to protect Elysium (War Hero) and what has driven her to become the hero she is. She found Liara fascinating from the very beginning due to having little contact with alien species, or even education about them due to her upbringing. To me it always seemed like Liara would approve of a Shep with War Hero background more than the others, but that could just be me. When their relationship developed in ME2 and ME3 it became very important for my Shep to protect Liara not only out of the ordinary affection but because she had already lost all that mattered to her once.

Hoping someone else will answer or I'll just look stupid!

Isn't that the point? Nice work by the way.

I thought it was.  The Rosie Riveter image was iconic to WWII women getting in on the fighting, doing their part for the war effort taking on the jobs of the men during a time of conflict. 
Just took something old here and adapted it to another cause - symbolism still remains.  Aint it great   Nice work though, I like it!  Might have to get a poster done up

You nailed my motivation btw - I wanted to use a pre-existing, iconic image to evoke feelings of resistance and a call to arms, so wartime propaganda was the obvious choice. Liara is the most visually iconic (she's blue!) character in Mass Effect, so the combination of parts pretty much chose themselves.

I think they can all work well.

I have two Sheps.

Earthborn/Ruthless:  She has the darker past that sharply contrasts Liara's.  Though, this Shepard feels bad for some of the things she has done and is trying to become a better person for Liara and herself.

Spacer/Sole Survivor:  I really like the Spacer b/c I imagine Shepard and Liara came from similar backgrounds (they had a loving family but were also lonely and didn't have many friends their own age).  Plus, the idea of Shepard's mom meeting Liara and her dad is kinda cool.  I like the Sole Survivor angle b/c of the whole Cerberus thing...adds a bit of drama to the relationship in ME2.

repliku do you know of a way to edit game saves on a mac? I can't find a mac version of gibbed save editor and I don't have any emulation programs that will allow me to run the windows version so I can edit my 360 game.

yeah it sucks that we got the crap convo in the game. also sucks they probably won't fix it either and those of us on console without a PC can't use the gibbed save editor to change it back to it's proper dialogue.

My infiltrator femShep got the Mindoir background, with War Hero. I liked how Liara described her on the time capsule: "Her enemies never saw her coming" and I was all "HELL YEAH!!" and how being born in Mindoir was something my Shep never let shape her.

But I can't say what else was diferent besides that. She thought I was "fascinating" when we first met in ME1, but I thought that was normal... Shepard just survived a mind overload from some prothean device.

repliku i have wine but i don't know how to get the damned thing to work with the gibbed save editor. i've tried but the thing won't open up. if you can find a tutorial or a video showing how to get it to work then yeah i could do it myself. but i can't and i've looked all over google for a tutorial and not finding one at all.

So I just found this thread surfing around a
little in the forums for Liara related things (appreciate the video of
that bug fix jlb, been looking for something like that when I found out
it was a bug and not just Bioware delivering stock dialogue). Anway, just wanted to say that I've been a Liara fan since ME1, and I definitely can't imagine romancing anyone else.

Though it had its issues, I did like ME3 for the most part, especially the Liara romance, even though it, too had some issues. Some of the moments with Liara throughout the game really made it seem like Shepard's struggle was worth it (the first time through anyway....the ending, well I won't get into that here). I particularly enjoyed the meeting with Aethyta (missed it on my first playthrough somehow). Has a very good renegade interrupt when Atheyta mentions the matriarchs watching Liara might put a hit out on her. And I can definitely imagine Wrex teasing Liara about her being a quarter Krogan.

Anyway, I noticed on the first post that there are a few fanfics linked, and I wanted to add one that I personally think is incredible. I obviously haven't gone through the entire thousand page thread, so if it has been linked before I apologize.

It's femshep/Liara (major bonus points right there, though I've noticed that femshep seems to be a lot more popular in fanfiction) and it really is incredible. It has a near perfect balance of staying with the story and changing some things up. The details are rich and the Shepard that the author creates is very excellent. Best of all, updates are ridiculously quick for the quality of the story (though the author is on vacation or something til about mid April). If you enjoy fanfiction and want a very high quality, lengthy Liara/femshep story, I very highly recommend these stories.

Anyway, my Liara romancing Shep is also Colonist/War hero, and the attack on Mindoir has always been something that she's bottled up. Now that she's with Liara, it's not so much a matter of trust, but rather she wouldn't want Liara to see all the horrible things that happened and how they tormented her later in life. Also, I heacanon that Shep did some less than respectable things on Elysium that the Alliance didn't publicise (for obvious reasons).

I don't even want to think about a Sole Survivor Shep going "Hey Liara! Wanna see these horribly gruesome images of my squad getting destroyed by a Thresher Maw?" lol

Oh in that case. I think of my Shep as the survivor type,  headstrong and unstoppable since the begining of times. That's why she survived in Minoir, that's why she was a big damn hero during the skylar blitz. She's so driven and has that great strong presence that Liara couldn't help but notice and she put that as a midly scientific interest when in reality she wanted to know my Shep better.

That was my headcanon.

Edit: oh and from her part, Shepard found amusing how a scientists had the guts to close everything and place herself in a bubble just to stop the geth, all by helsef. Mutual interest grew into love. And they brought a new side to one another (Shepard got warm and less military-hardcore and Liara got badass).

They're so worth it if you can find the time. The author also promised a different ending to ME3 when he eventually gets that far, and from the way he's fixed quite a few of the plot points that don't really make a lot of sense so far, I'm pretty sure it's going to be something special. Involving little blue children.

My Shepard is a spacer/warhero. Had a normal childhood, although the constant moving around made him not bother making attachments to most people. After his stunt on Elysium he became (even more) cocky, overconfident and full of himself. When he first meets Liara his interest in her is purely physical. However throughout the journey of ME1. He starts to mature and actually develops feelings for her to his own suprise.
