I have not yet published the full size version on dA. It's based off of a piece done by another artist, and I am waiting for her to give me her blessing before I publish any derivative work.

Ok would love to know when, if you get it posted:)

@fingertrip...

For one thing... as someone said before... don't just appear in a thread that you are not active in and demand this and that and say you are going to report everything.

Second thing... contrary to popular belief... the Mods patrol these character threads quite well and if they deem something inappropiate they would let us know. Your report will be filed in the "Too sensitive" category and will make like the Mars archives. No one will study them for 3 decades. Besides... I think the mods are very aware of the people who post regularly in a thread and they will give the benefit of the doubt to the long time poster opoosed to the short time complainer.

Just my two cents.

Read it, liked it.

Putting
my nitpicking hat on, I'd I have to agree with Tyranniac in the dress matter. I can understand all your thoughts behind the idea, but it disturbs the "flow" a bit at that point. For me as the reader the white dress on the military vessel comes out of nowhere so to speak.

Other than that, nothing to complain. Great work, lookin' forward to reading more!

I'll look at a re-write later on tonight. Considering how god-awful the first draft of this section was its a relief that the "big problem" with it is such a small detail. Given that its a pretty minor thing to adjust it hopefully shouldn't take long.

I took a look over it tonight after playing some more ME1 and I toyed about with some alternatives but I couldn't think of anything better. Anything I put in there seems to mess up the flow of things.

So I thought I'd have a look at just straight up removing it...and that actually works pretty well. I basically just cut everything after "I'd like that" within that section and in the process I lose a tiny bit of subtext but it seems to flow a lot better. Especially going from Liara agreeing straight into the romantic meal scene.

I'd appreciate thoughts on the flow of it given the change, especially from Tyranniac and Ananas. And, of course, feedback from anyone who hasn't read it yet. I'm always happy to consider any suggestions or criticism.

Patience
*snip*

I think getting rid of the dress helped correct the flow,  it turned that part from seeming a bit clumsy and disjointed into a scene that was short and sweet and worked well within the flow of the entire story.  I think that the initial disagreement with the Dress other than that it interrupted the flow was that atleast for me it seemed like something that you're shepard wouldn't do.  I mean where would she have had time to go get it, and buying a dress for Liara just seemed a bit cocky and not inline with her character.  Either way, it works alot better without the dress is what I'm trying to say through all this rambling:)

I was wondering where you'd gone. Okay, reading again, because my mind rebels at the thought of reading scientific journals!

Just quickly in here, as I'm reading so it's fresh.

Is it necessary to mention that the Normandy had docked two days earlier after saying a few days later? Just seems like extra words, if you get my meaning.

And, you nod at someone, or nod to them?

Little nitpicks is all. Do excuse my impertinence.

I might tweak the wording a bit.

Your first comment...I actually meant to remove that but forgot. Nice catch. ;)

The second is either. Far as I know the difference is nodding at someone or something is indicating them whereas nodding to them is an acknowledgement/greeting.

Yeah, I think so too. I kinda fell foul of my own rules; generally speaking if something just flat out isn't working I'll cut the entire thing because otherwise you end up with trying to patch something together and it leaves a mess but I managed to get myself fixated on it. Bad mistake.

Either way, gone now. Smoother that way.

Yes, much better!

One could argue wether or not a short introductory line for the dinner scene would smooth the transition further, but I guess it comes down to personal prefernece.

In terms of the general flow it's a huge improvement in any case.
I know from my own creative work how hard it can be to cut ideas one holds dear. But often - and I think in this case - it's the right call to make to advance the whole thing

Let me give you some friendly advise...

Coming into a thread that you don't participate in, and reporting everything that offends you, then gloating about reporting the posts in that very thread, will not get people to cooperate with you. In fact, most would consider that trolling in some regards.
If you are an adult and have children of your own, you should be mature enough to state your issues before tattling. Doesn't it make sense to ask people to curb what ever it is you find offensive first?

This works both ways. People should also be reasonable and mature enough to understand why the report was made, but clarification should also I suppose in the process be clarified- however, that only seemed to provoke more uneccasary "insults". Some people will not just agree with ones reasoning, regardless if they make any sense or not.

I did not gloat either, because there's nothing to gloat over. You don't gloat over maybe catching someone doing X/Y or something in real-life, you just file the report and be done with it. Unless you're someone who enjoys over someones else's troubles/misery etc; but I'm not like that :)

And as a parent, you probably shouldn't allow your kids in here anyway. It's called parenting. Don't blame others.

It's called having a PC monitor, which can be viewed from your rear. Considering my door is always open, my kids usually travel-past from the kitchen and inbetween. They occasionally stop by once in a while, and I really don't want them to experience sci-fi "pornographic" (abit to much, but alas) material from a video game, espicially in their age.

They do not have access to my PC, so it's not like I'm leaving it accessible for them. Do not try to discuss parenting really on this, I think you just missunderstood the situation I'm in abit. Really unappropiate and presumptinous to even bring up parenting, and somewhat disrespectful of you.

@Fingertrip Dude, you sound like Fox News.

I don't understand what you hope to accomplish with this post. Trolling? Unspecific criticsm, disagreeing with my opinion? Or just insulting me, as in- you don't like Fox News, therefor you don't like my response, which I'm entitled to? What's your deal?

*looks at fingertrip* ...riiiiiight. I/we really appreciated your ''blooyd lesbian' comment awhile back. It was not offensive at all. did i report you for it? no, i shoulda though now thinking back. (yes i went back and looked to confirm this 'troll' thing and that comment made it very believable that you are indeed such)
and wtf are you doing letting your kids into a mature rated/themed video game forum (where ALL aspects of the character will be discussed including romance, mind melding, asari culture, head canon, interpretations etc etc) or playing said Mature rated video game. cry me a river, allowing your kids here is a bit of reckless

Admitelly, the "lesbian" thing was abit over-the line, but I'm still sticking to it tho, because I'm certainly getting some of them vibes, call it generalization- but I've been far to many familiar situations where it's something "similiar" to this. If you're a lesbian, fine- I don't see the problem with it, and I know lesbian(used to know more, but drifted away) and they're good people. I wasn't trying to be some sort of "homophobic" scare-tactics, or... something. It was more of a lame statement, which sort of maybe provoked people in the wrong manner.

As far as discussing things, I don't again, understand why people are so profound with using such vulgar language when trying to adress something. At least try to attempt to put yourself in my shoes and see the issue from my PoV. I'm established in a house with my wife and kids, and I don't want them to sneak-up behind me and watch me on the PC, and get the wrong ideas that I'm browsing some forum that uploads abit excessively-skinned and detail romance-"pictures" and such. Then they're going to be abit curious over my state-of-mind, at least my kids- my wife is more of a gamer herself, so it works out genuially well in that regard.

I have absolutely no problems with text, but the pictures are the issue. It would really just be great if there was more NSFW tags, so I wouldn't have to super-scroll fast or past intressting dialogues that I'd like to think abit about.

Again, my kids are not allowed on this PC, nor do they have any access to it. It's the fear-factor of having them view from the rear-end of chair-view and such that I don't know if they sneak up on me or not. I do tend to have my headset+music on a fair amount of time, and if they want to conversate, they're going to need to enter the room.

Have a great day.

I have two serious questions...

1) Does Liara speak 'English' to Shepard or Asari translated to English via magical translator thingy?

2) When Shep/Liara do the 'I love you' thing before the Cerberus mission, is that the first time they said it or did they ever exchange those words earlier?

Hey, don't knock on Drell Adepts, I feel that they can go toe to toe with Asari Adepts.

But in saying that, I can be smug because I have both asari. Liara is proud of me. :P

1 is never made clear I think, but I believe it's translator thingies.

2 I think it's the first time they exchange vows of love. Don't remember any moments before that. The second time Liara says I love you is on earth.

@ Fingertip, I get the feeling that this is the wrong thread for you. Nobody else seems to have the sort of problems you do. Are you saying we should all act in a way that is acceptable to you, because you intend to be here, or should we all behave in a way in which nobody else but you seems to take offense at? There was an issue a couple of days ago on pictures, similar to yours, but nobody was as drama queen about it and went on about reporting posts. They just calmly said maybe this is inappropriate.

By coming in and smugly going 1) lesbians lol. 2) I'm reporting all this stuff because I don't like it, you made no friends here, and nobody would be inclined to include you in any discussion because you do not make an effort to engage anyone in a friendly manner. Had you come in and been civil about it, people would have less problems accepting you. If you continue to be unhelpful in your posting, I will just report you to the mods as being inflammatory, and I'm sure many others will do the same. Inflammatory does not have to be coming in and deliberately being childish either, it can be as calculated as you are now, with posts weighted almost deliberately to provoke a reaction.

Now please, play along with everyone else, or don't play at all.

Jib I think that the I love you is the first time they've said it in all 3 games. As for the English and Asari Dialects. Their omnitools have translation matrixes built into them so they have all the galactic languages translated for them. Therefore it really doesn't matter. It's like Star Trek's universal translator device.

The implication is Omni-tools translate voice output to something it's user understands, though there is "trade" languages that many people learn so they can communicate in the language another race can recognize. Cultural exchange sort of deal, so it's likely either one or both them know either an Asari or Human "trade" language. Up to the player but in the codex most people talk with an omni-tool translator.

I get the sense they felt it before they maybe even implied it and very well could have said it but there's something about the exchange in that instance that leads me to believe this is the first time both of them said the exact words to the other. Though they loved each other before that time.

1) I have no idea.  A while ago I had this little daydream of Shepard waking up after a battle to find that her translator had gone wonky and she couldn't understand a word Liara is saying.  Dr. Hacksaw clarifies what happened and that's when Shepard realizes she's hearing Liara's unprocessed voice for the very first time.

Of course, I'm also perfectly willing to accept that everyone in the future just speaks English.  You know, for the sake of simplicity.

2) Is this my Shep and Liara?  Because hell no.  The stuff that's happened in game is a scant fraction of what they've experienced together.  I was happy to hear the words spoken aloud in the game, but I really didn't need Bioware's help in solidifying the fact that they loved each other.

So then...the translator uses Liara's 'real' voice when playing back the English to Shepard?

I prefer thinking they both learned each other's language for some reason.

Mainly because the words Liara mouths matches the English XD

Does anyone know if the 'time-capsule' scene is any different if you've fully rekindled the relationship with Liara (i.e. the talk on the citadel)? Is it even possible to do the 'time capsule' after that scene?

jib that's what a translator device does in Trek anyways. The computer records the language, translates it so that the person listening understands the words but in the persons own language. I'm not sure of the logistics of it or how an alien speaking in their own language would have english words match up to their mouth movement. That's a bit out of my league. I call it technobabble. It explains everything technological.

1. In my head cannon, Sunnie and Liara don't need any omnitool or other translator, they can understand each other just fine since they have melded like every day since hitting Illium! /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/80463.gif
All that time sharing a single consciousness would make them easily learn the others language.

2. Though it's heavily implied that they love each other beyond everything, this is the first time WE have seen it in game.

Maybe Liara learned english in school? Unlikely though, she would have been on her Indiana Jones type adventures by the time humanity burst on to the scene? Don't be fooled by her pretty lips though. Okay, I'm sure we've all been fooled by her prety lips, but what I meant to say was that the translator microbes chip or whatchermacallit probably syncs really well.

After all, it's not like we all speak Basic, is it?

Been alittle curious about this myself,
I always thought it would be funny if Shepard tried to learn her to speak english without any silly translator, and if she would be interested in it at all.

It also makes me wonder how the asari langauge sounds without a translator.
