Am I the only one who thinks the council choice is weird? I mean Shepard had no way to know what would happen if he wasted more time, probably costing the lives of countless civilians on the citadel just to save the Destiny Ascension. On my first playthrough I thought this might be a right/wrong choice with delay causing critical mission failure. Liara agreeing with me reassured me, getting renegade points however did not...
Still not sure what to do with that for my ultimate canon playthrough.
Not to change the topic but.
Once Shepard had to make the choice he had locked out Sovereign of the Citadel network (momentarily). Couple that with convincing Saren to commit suicide and I felt Shepard had brought enough time that saving the DA was a viable option.
Also remember that not saving the DA means ignoring a good chunk of the Geth fleet. Who could very easily just turn around and focus on the Alliance ships shooting on Sovereign. Since the council fleet in that scenario just got steamrolled.
