Pretty much. She told Shepard there was no other way, that her mind would never be her own again, even when Shepard offered to patch her up using medi gel and thus save her life, she refused. Shepard really couldn't have done anything more for her.

I guess I kinda agree and disagree with PMC. If my mom suddenly went nuts and started trying to kill me and my friends and her death was unavoidable ok. But I would always see whoever killed her as 'that person who killed my mom' regardless of whether or not it was justified. However, if my mom ever went buttf*cking crazy like that I would kill her myself. It would be my mother, therefore I would be the best person to do it and I couldn't burden my friend with the guilt of wasting my mom.

Since the fight is
Shepard + 2 Squadmates
vs
Benezia + Asari-Commandos + Geth

It is possible that Liara herself or another squadmate was the one that dealt the lethal damage and not shepard.

Hey guys! I'm very new to the forums here and have come out of hiding to participate

In my headcanon, Liara 'kills' Benezia herself (she delivers the final shot that eventually kills her) in order to save Shepard.

I think I wrote about this a long time ago...makes it more dramatic and all that.

Even when I play the game, it's not always Shepard that delivers the final killing shot...it's usually Liara because sometimes Benezia insta-dies when she uses lift on her.

I'm kind of on the other side of this fence, personally. I would rather that someone else take the burden of killing a villainous relative away from me. I don't want to carry that memory; so maybe Liara might be a person who would appreciate Shep doing that hard but necessary thing for her so she wouldn't have to do it herself. In that case, she might forgive Shep by accepting that one way or another Benezia had to die in that confrontation.
