Actually she clearly states that she doesn't like it when she has to lean on Shep's shoulder.
She came a long way since ME1 and I think she actually does want to be equals with Shepard.
And she actually wanted to become the SB she says so herself.
The fact that it was the logical thing to do just goes hand in hand with it.

What?

Can you prove that her motives in becoming the Shadow Broker involved becoming an 'equal' to Shepard?

I've read some funny things in my days of being a Liara fan but this takes the cake.

I heard far worse things. And from myself that is.

So uh ... Tali's sweat anyone?

Oh dear

Ehh. Renegade Liara feels so OOC to me. But it is fun to watch her be the "KILL THEM ALL!!!" person in the squad

Ugh you guys, that was bad editing on my part.
What I meant was:
1) I think Liara wants to be independant and not a burden to Shepard
2) I assume she wants to be Shepard's equal
3) She wants to be the SB
4) Me thinking that she wants to be equal to Shepard has nothing to do with her wanting to be the SB

Sorry if it caused confusion :)

heh, I was just making a joke about the "I've read some funny things" thing jib524 wrote by giving the most extreme example I could think of :P

I agree with what you said though, Liara definitely does want to be more independent.

Liara has always been independent since ME1, working alone even against pirates or mercenaries. Yes she does want to do things without Shepard's help. But that's as far as it goes. She didn't become the Shadow Broker to be better. She became the Shadow Broker to help Shepard, and the rest of the galaxy. And because it's something she wants.

So Liara... she's blue...

I really like the look she has here. To me she looks torn between duty and love and to convey that in a frame, well BioWare have some great people working for them.

Indeed they do, and that's why we love them and Liara because they made her happen ;)

I must say this is one of, if not the best fanart I've seen of Liara. It really captures a lot of nice details. I can imagine how Liara is at work as the Shadowbroker fiddeling with all these little screens and as the stress gets higher and higher, she pulls in one screen she always keeps open in the background and stares at it with a longing look on her face. Then as her heart calms down again she puts the image aside again and continues her work.

Very well done.

PS: I don't see Shepard cheating on her there. He is sitting alone in his room, thinking about all of his problems with the Reapers, Cerberus, the Citadel, etc. and while he does so he feels lonely himself, because of the little help he is getting in his struggle against the unavoidable arrival of the Reapers

As I said, great picture that really sparks the imagination. Great job.

This was Liara's plan when on the balcony before the third interrupt:
Liara:"But from here on out things will be simple.  Get in, get Feron, get out, and kill anyone that tries to stop us."
Shepard:"That's it?"
Liara:"That's it."
Third paragon interrupt

Liara's goal was to just get Feron.  Not to take over.  That just landed in her lap when the SB's agents started flipping out about losing their connection.  This is the look on Liara's face during that scene.
Image IPB
Her look makes me think it was not her plan to take over.  She had to think quickly, which Liara is quite good at BTW. That is when she decided to take over.  To help Shepard.

Shepard did say we could crash this thing and walk away.  That is when Liara said in a way, I feel like I belong here.  I believe Liara feels that way because of the huge amount of files the Shadow Broker has and her love of research makes her feel it's a dream job.

I also believe her line about feeling like she belongs there is because she was always working alone until Therum.  With all the intel stored in those files, I'm sure Liara is enjoying that part of it.

That's the 2nd best Liara fanart I've seen, the first being the renegade one from onibox.

I don't think I've ever actually read any fanfiction. The only one which comes close to it was a short satirical piece (about a page long) about DA2's reused environments.

So should I start? And if yes, any good ones I could start with?

It never hurts to give it a shot.  FanFiction.net has a wealth of Mass Effect (and Dragon Age, if you like) fanfiction.  It allows you to filter based on the characters that you want to see (up to 2) and also filter by story type.

There are also plenty of people in these forums who've written stuff, and usually will link to it in their signatures.

Bear in mind, though, that FF.net just recently began to differentiate between Male and Female Shepard stories, and by default they were all set to Female Shepard if they were previously tagged for "Shepard".  So your results may be will be skewed when searching for one or the other.

That is why I wait to post my stories until I'm almost done with it.  That way you don't have to wait, you know you will get another chapter next week.

But then I don't work and just stay home reading, writing, or playing Mass Effect.  Is that a bad thing?B)

I did noticed that ff.net changed Shepard to F and M, but I didn't know they defaulted it to femShep.  That is a win right there.  :o

So like, how do I keep away from the creepy stuff on sites like that? I mean I'm almost certain there's people describing explicit sex scenes which, to be honest that's the kind of stuff I don't really care for.

TheMarshal has some very good stories.  That is where I started anyway.  Then I just did a search for Liara/Shep and went from there.  Some are good.  Some are meh.  Then I got inspired to put the stories in my head down on paper(computer) and posted them.

EDIT:

My stories are rated M mostly for language.  I can get very explicit when it comes to sex scenes and I've had to scale them back in a major way to keep them from being explicit.  FOX News would be proud about that. ;)

I don't know if I'd call it a "win", 'cause it basically sets everyone looking for FemShep stories off where they were before, which was not knowing whether a story is going to have ManShep or FemShep.  All those completed or abandoned stories with ManShep are going to be forever marked with (F).

Still, it's about damn time they did that!

And uh...  Liara!

Don't go to adultfanfiction.net?

j/k  But FF.net has filters so you can exclude M-rated stories from your searches.  Granted even most of the M-rated stories will say "THIS HAS SEX IN IT!!!" in the summary, in case you don't want to exclude other M-rated story aspects.

Can I order them according to their rating too? (if they have a rating system)

So like, say I wanted a F!Shep/Liara fiction and wanted to order them from highest rating to lowest, could I do that?

I feel like such a noob haha, I've never read a single piece of fanfiction in my life :P
