my disappointment is focused abount the impossibility to put the choice take in this trilogy and put in the new game for watch the affect about the major affairs,

so which is the real point to play this trilogy if all my choice not have consequences because BioWare prefer have a canon story for the new game, because in this way the game not have a complications about some variables,

but why not made the game in canon story in the begining ?

Liara help me for this dark moment.

The point of playing this trilogy and this story is to enjoy this story and this trilogy.  Not to set things up for the future, but to enjoy the experience now.

And the point of ME3 in particular was to provide an ending to Shepard's story.  I just wish it was a better one.

We stopped the Reapers, but the way they did it...honestly Mass effect is only the fourth video game i have been played in the 18 years i have lived so far and i honestly didnt think i were so emotionally invested in it as the ending made me literally depressed and confused..

Finally finished my 1/2/3 run with the soldier based on jlb's facecode which inspired me to complete a run with Kaidan alive for the first and only time. Thanks JLB, couldn't have done it without that cuteness staring at me in cutscenes.

I'm planning on a complete playthrough too and that sounds quite great actually. When I make something in the face editor it looks fine there, but ingame it's somehow wrong and I can't be bothered to redo it five thousand times so I just go with it. :(

I seriously wanted a choice to pick "run away with Liara in the Normandy" when she suggested it pre-cerberus base.

Yeah, the protheans fought the Reapers for a hundred years (or was it several?). Just one ship escaping somewhere far away, find a planet to live on (like the one they crashed on in Bioware's ending). How long would've they lived? I'd guess over a human lifetime. That would've been selfish but yeah.

Liara even predicted the ship getting lost somewhere.

Unfortunately, if Shepard was the sort of person who might choose that Liara would never have fallen in love with them.

While I agree with you that Liara is a subtle character that you have to examine closely to truly appreciate, I am also fully aware that she was designed to fill the virginal damsel-in-distress archetype that appeals to a number of people.  Same thing with the asari.  But both have managed to capture my imagination far beyond whatever initial design goals they may have been created with.

It's also clear that she's a writer/designer/producer favorite, and as such has been given an unprecedented amount of screen time and plot-importance.  While there is a small, vocal minority that loathes her, a slightly larger minority which simply dislikes her being "forced" upon the player, I would argue that Liara is definitely one of the most popular characters in the game outside of Shepard.

I take issue with this. If you just want to say that during designing process a part of her - and the asari - was meant to be a damsel in distress archetype, that's one thing.

But Liara - and the Asari - as they are in Mass Effect, what we the players, actually see and interact with? It is far more than that. There's a bit of that there, especially at first, but once you rescue Liara from Therum they both really start being fleshed out and developed into much more than damsels in distress.

Let me clear, I am not interested in weak damsels in distress. I disliked Liara at first because that's what I thought she was. Then she proved my first impressions wrong - so I really take issue with it being said that I'm basically just buying into a damsel in distress archetype.

I don't know if you intended to argue all that, though.

Gawd, no.  I'm not the least bit interested in the damsels in distress.  In fact, I have to headcanon a fair amount around ME1 Liara to get her to a point where I actually like her.  I enjoy her social awkwardness and how caring she comes across, but ultimately she's a far more palatable character to me in LotSB and ME3.

And the asari were designed to fit the "sexy blue alien babe" archetype.  It just so happens that there's so much more to them when you give them anything more than a cursory glance.  Which I like.

But shes so bumbly in ME1! It's cuuute when she talks to you at first. My biggest concern is that she never had much to say but if you listened to her there was a lot more than what people saw on the surface.

That said I really like how she changes in LotSB and ME3, she becomes a much more evolved and interesting character.

I know, bumbly is adorable.  But I've found that I like her more as a character when you renegade her a little bit, pushing against her and forcing her to push back.  Confidence is sexy, and for a 106 year-old asari, she definitely has confidence.

Except there are very, very few situations where you can "renegade" without being evil, sociopathic, or just an outright ****. I see your intentions, but man it's hard to do that in ME.

At any rate, I really do only think that Liara comes across as too weak in Therum. Once you get off Therum, she starts asserting herself and showing the worth to Asari and her own character. Especially if you romance her.

Her plot role is fulfilled on Thessia. I also think she's less the "best friend" than Garrus is, by default.

Thessia marks a major point of crisis for her, the moment when she's closest to utter despair. It's dramatically appropriate to me if Shepard's friendship/love should be necessary to bring her through that.

I think Garrus is Shep's "action friend" and Liara is her/ his "emotion friend" who knows Shep the best to share secrets, thoughts with. Garrus is the kind of friend that you go to the bar, do sport with

Well, she presumably is weak on Therum. What with dehydration, stress, lack of sleep and all that. And she has no gun and no armour

The only thing that bothers me about Therum is that when you start the fight with the Krogan, Liara starts glowing and looking like she's about to kick ass. Which makes her then spending the fight crouched down rather a let down.

Yeah actually, I like her renewed confidence in ME3. She even manages to retain her shy/private personality at the same time.
I personally find LotSB best when you question how renegade she has become, her emotions come out really well.
All this talk makes me want to go and replay it all, I love LotSB. ^_^

An ending to Shepard's story didn't have to mean an end to the entire ME IP and franchise. Nor did it have to mean his death. This is pretty simple, I think. The universe was very rich and fleshed and ripe with opportunities to make more games in it and tell more stories, even without Shepard. Now it is torched and isn't.

Damn I'm glad that the Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition just got released so I can play through that wonderful game again and forget about Mass Effect untill the Extended Cut comes out.

in Mass Effect 1 you could play as a cynical **** which I really liked because I am like that irl. In ME2 and 3 renegade got a bit over the top. In ME2 renegades are almost insane, in ME3 they made it a bit more grey again

I never saw Liara as shy but simply private.

I don't think she's afraid of talking to people she'd just rather spend time alone.

She's a bit uncomfortable in ME1 mainly b/c of the human thing.

Its like if Shepard wants listen from the hearth its Liara and from the head its Garrus, similiar analogy to Ashley and Kaidan in ME1

Oooh, I don't know if I agree there.  Liara is very analytical, Garrus reacts from the gut a lot of the time - even if he's having to change that in ME3 with all the responsibility.

I'd rather say that Liara is who Shepard goes to if they want a sympathetic shoulder to cry on, while Garrus is who they go to if they want pep talk.

My thought on Liara in ME1:
My first impression when hearing about Liara is I know she's gonna be a squad member so I rescued her as soon as possible, the mission was so hard, the mako keeps crashing onto the magma, It was completely black on my computer screen, I have to rely on the map to drive and quick save every minute. When I first met her I thought this girl was the proud of herself, naive, weak type. After talking with her on the Normandy, I think she's kind of cute with her lacking of social communication, and she loves knowledge, she's very honest, innocent which remind me a bit of myself :PAnd she is beautiful.
I was with Kaidan at that time. After Noveria, I feel bad for her and admire her strengtht but I was like "Wth!" when she hit on Shep. It's like " we're both woman" and I thought " this is off and a little forced", we didn't have much things to talk like Kaidan (because of the writer) but I choosed the " Yes, I think we have a connection" to see how this will go. I love people who tell me what they really think, unlike Kaidan, what kind of man waiting for the girl to say it first? (IMO that isn't cool)
I was waiting for a "who do you choose?" conversation but nothing happened. Did Liara :ph34r:mancer me ? Should I reload my save files? But I did't. The locker scene, I was like "Liara cares about Shep, she supports her" and "Joker I hate you "
The love scene, wow she is really beautiful, Shepard means a lot to her, it's not "sex time to relieve stress" and this part "I love people who tell me what they really think, unlike Kaidan, what kind of man waiting for the girl to say it first? (IMO that isn't cool)" again. A little funny when I choose "Ready for round two?" "Commander !" :P and "I hate Joker again". After the fight with Saren, it was sad to she Liara looked down, afraid of Shep's death. But the moment Shep rose with her victory smile, it was epic. In the end, I thought to myself "I'm glad I'm with you, Liara" and I understand that "once you go blue nothing else will do".

Sorry for my crappy English.

How are people doing these edits? That one looks surprisingly good. I'm also curious how that'd look on her with the green replaced with purple.
