I agree with a lot of things you post.
As a character driven story, the epilogue is totally meaningless for me. I couldn't care less if I saved some Stargazer that I have no idea who he is, just some stranger. That was supposed to bring closure to the story... well it sure as hell didn't work in my case.
http://social.biowar...07/blog/212032/"The lack of any kind of context for the ending means the whole
thing feels unfinished... . And thats a failing which means that many
people won't leave satisified, because theres nothing for them to really
reflect on."
"Then the narrative all kinda goes pear shaped. You speak to the star
kid but you dont really know who the hell he is and probably don't
really care, you don't know him and he's not really part of your
motivation. Then you're given a series of choices with consequences
disconnected from everything you've done previously. You're not invested
in the decision really because you've only just found out about it. You
duly make your choice...
...and it results in basically nothing
of any relevance. Oh sure, the Reapers go away in one way or another but
thats about the extent of what you get to know. The real motivation of
your journey was never "defeat the Reapers", it was "save the galaxy".
Did you do it? You never really find out; you might guess that with the
Reapers destroyed the answer is yes but nothing ever tells you that. The
outcomes have got no connect whatsoever to your previously established
motivations or actions. The consequences that you first started out with
in mind are ignored in favour of a cut to credits."
Had to add my support to your statement about "we don't care about that"; but I couldn't think of better words than what I used in that blog.
