I've reached a point where I just utterly ignore the Liara hate. It's not my fault they are so petty minded they feel everything Liara does and even remotely involves Shepard, is her being 'forced' on them. And I'm not about to start explaining things to haters, they won't listen to anything pro- Liara you say anyway. They just don't know what they're missing. Their loss.

Ugh. I'm just came back from those threads. Shouldn't have gone there. I feel tired after explaining my opinion.
EDIT: Anyone know how to color hair with SAI and a mouse. I'm stuck at coloring Shepard's hair.

There's a lot of characters I like heckling and joking about.

Someday I'll even get around to doing that Liara romance run, instead of watching my boyfriend do it. Someday. In the meantime, she's a pretty awesome buddy for Shepard.

never saw much sense in hating on your own crew - gets in the way of things (fictional or RL). If you cant respect hteir function and position n the grand scheme of things - well...doesnt say much about your own character. I mean I didn't really like alenko, but i respected him as an officer and protected him as a member of my crew (up until I let him guard the bomb...didnt work out too well)
Exactly. There's a major difference between disliking a character but being professional about it (I'm not too fond of either Ashley or Kaiden but I respect their opinions even if I don't share them) and acting like an ignorant child shouting "I don't like [Character X] he/she is [Insert complaint] and I want to shoot him/her out an airlock *whinewhine*"

At any rate, it'd be an understandable mistake to make...even ME3 gets that wrong. I'm pretty sure there's not a single Asari bleeding purple in the game, they all bleed red. Strange only really because Mordin bleeds green, so they remembered Salarians don't have red blood at least.
As said yes the blood on her cheek is Shepard's while that on her crest is her own. Don't the asari bleed purple in the third game? I know they did in the second, considerably noticible when sniping eclipse girls in slow-motion.
I really appreciated how beautiful she looked that scene and how emotional it was made (as you said for Liara) but it was not the time to admire her beauty, she needs comforting at that pointAristobulus500 wrote...
It's actually a really powerful scene, for Liara's part, not so much Shepard's, and it just - it feels wrong to glorify her looks there. Her eyes do stand out, but man it's a tragic, sad scene! Not one to spend admiring her...**** though what I would've given for a paragon interrupt to comfort her when she looks up at Shepard like that.
Also when I think about it I suppose it is the tears in her eyes catching the light that make them shine in that way, even the two trails down her cheeks makes her skin glitter.
Which is a real shame, I do not want to make her cry to appreciate her beauty

I think the thread actually is "why do you hate Liara?"
EDIT: Question: What kind of gift would you give Liara for her birthday?

I would have loved to give her the Prothean Orb you recover in the hammerhead mission, In my headcanon Shepard gives it to her before being placed in custody as he knows he will miss her birthday.
Or you can always take a page out of Garrus' book in Lightspeaker's fic: buy her a gift Shepard is going to enjoy peeling her out of again.
Before the war ends Kaelis would have given her something more practical, I always imagine that her Phantom Armour is a gift Shepard has ordered for her.
I am even planing to write a fic of that scene at some point

Also. Sucks to be them.More Liara for me. Their hate wont make them feel any better in the long run and in the end gets them nowhere and nothing.

I'm almost positive they don't. I know there's a dead asari you see during the citadel attack, and she's in a pool of red blood.

You know, that makes sense. It probably was the tears being reflective and giving her eyes even more of a shine. It's probably so startling because her eyes already have a particularly noticeable shine anyway, so that's a shiny on top of a shine, really.
I don't think I'll ever not feel uncomfortable about that though.

Both of these really get at the issue. People are still mad at the ending, but they are tired of talking about it. They want to target something, and Liara is an easy target since she gets so much focus in the game.
A lot of it is just jealousy, too. They wish their LI or favorite character got as much focus as Liara does - which, I admit, is a fair thing to be jealous of. But they go about it the wrong way - they tear Liara down and attack her, rather than simply try to build up their own character. It's almost as if they would rather Liara get less screentime, than their character get more.
But part of that is because it's simply easier to do. Easier to just lash out, than try to build a strong case for how to improve your character and have additional scenes and such.
Also, lots of these people have been hating Liara since ME1. It's an established tradition for them. They are very much set in their ways and do not want to change. When it comes to Liara, they close their minds. All they do is actively look for reasons to hate her and disregard anything positive she does.
As you're finding out the more you try to engage them, they almost never are going to be willing to actually listen to reasons to like her, and are going to hate her no matter what you say or do. I have no problems discussing it with people who are open minded, but that's remarkably few of them. Again, it's best to just set the tone early, find out if they are actually being open minded and fair in the discussion, or if they are just angrily lashing out, and just ignore them and move on if they aren't willing to listen or be reasonable.

That is an tiresome attitude though. I mean...come on. I don't like every character the same but I have to admit that I even liked Jacob in ME2...to some extent. (Well, he completely blew this when meeting him in ME3 but anyways....)
I think each and every character in the ME series has some likeable aspects to him or her. You don't have to love them but this hatred that some people show that is just lame. I would understand complete disregard but hate?
And the worst is that they have to broadcast it loudly in a way that is hurtful and offending to those who actually like that character. All that talk about Liara mind-raping and whatnot! Sheesh...don't talk to her if you want to avoid it...don't let her onto your squad. It is that easy! <_<

Seriously - ask them to describe Liara sometime, without using her name, and you're very likely to get a description of a character that is very much not Liara. They've created this character to hate in their minds, and attached Liara's name to it.
And they can't be made to realize they aren't even hating Liara. They simply don't want to change their minds on this. It's pointless to engage them and waste all that time, energy, and effort, because you're trying to be fair and reasonable and they aren't. They just want something to hate. They aren't trying to be fair and reasonable.
So just let them be. Direct them here if they are honestly looking for an open discourse, but otherwise just ignore them and their threads. I would seriously make all of one post directing them here, and then just abandon the thread. Anyone seriously interested would read your post here, and the rest will just continue circlejerking about their made up terrible version of a character that is not actually in the games.
