Exactly. And if they gave you more time to get attached to Thessia. If you had multiple missions on Thessia before it fell, you would get more accustomed to the place and get to know ti better, and you could have Liara along to talk about it and introduce you to various parts of it, too. Could even have a mission that goes by where she grew up at.

Easy. Have some missions before the Reapers arrive, have it be building up to that final mission where Thessia is lost. It can be about trying to help Thessia prepare or find out more about something related to the Asari, which builds up to the beacon reveal and everything.

Then maybe you even have a choice - help the Asari hide the beacon, or reveal it to the public.

Precisely. At last someone else who can understand that Mass Effect 3 - beyond the ending - is incomplete. THAT bothers me so much more than the ending itself.

I never saw the big deal with this plot armor hysteria. It's simply how the story goes..

True but, no matter how much I might dislike it, the mission was never to help the asari, only to recover the artifact that could lead to the catalyst.

I like it! These are amazing boots indeed. Do you have them in color, too? Black and white is very stylish I have to say but I do like the blue and white ones, too.

They look sturdy yet comfortable. Good for a fight I suppose!

I think it SHOULD have been about the Asari. I mean, why not? We basically came down there fresh and didn't know anything really deep about their native culture or architecture etc. The next thing we know we're in the middle of a war zone.
At the temple: BAM, Prothean AI tells us the Asari aren't as glorious as they seem. BAM, Kai Leng ninjas in and takes the data. BAM, Thessia is lost??? They made the narrative so that they wouldn't have to face these important aspects that we wanted, cause they didn't have the time.

I tried only once playing a renegade Shep. I just can't do it, though. He's too evil and I found myself wanting him to fail. It was one runthrough of ME1 and I hated him so much I never imported him and I've never switched from a paragon, Liara romancer again.

I just don't see how people can enjoy a full renegade Shep. He's a straight up sociopath, he's not a hero at all. He rather reminds me of Kratos from God of War, and I just find that disturbing. I also find it disturbing when people think Kratos is some kind of relateable badass or something. Same for Ren. Shep.

Agreed. Even though I got into Mass Effect relatively late (February, I believe), and thus didn't have time to actually test out being RenShep fully in the games, the little I actually did was just disturbing. I think it's at its prime in ME3, where the auto-dialogues create such a huge contrast to the times where you actually are able to be a dick.

There are moments when I do choose the renegade options/interrupts, though. A couple of examples are the Kai Leng death sequence (SERIOUSLY, I LOVE THAT) and when you rage at the Quarian Admiral for opening fire at the Geth Dreadnought with you still in it. Those actions both seem just, and work out nicely with what Shepard could conventionally do. Examples of actions that are NOT as acceptable (in my opinion) are the death scenes of Legion (seriously, SEVERAL shots?) and Mordin. They're just... wrong. They're not even like the third category of renegade actions that are just plane-out hilarious (punching the reporter), and they go against what ANY Shepard could POSSIBLY want to do (okay... I guess there might be some sick individuals who actually enjoyed them, but they're irrelevant to my analysis, since they must see the ME franchise in such a different way than me).

At the same time, I feel like I'm sometimes forcing myself to choosing paragon. As much as I love the bigger picture, there are times when I look at the renegade option (doesn't have to actually be red lighted) and think to myself that I would actually prefer it to the paragon one, but STILL I go for mr. Good Guy. Why? I do think it's because I keep telling myself I'm sort of serving a goal that's greater than my comprehension, and therefore must choose the light path, no matter if it sometimes stings. Most of the time, though, I feel satisfied with my choice afterwards. A lot of times it's probably because my doubt about the current paragon option was based on the fact that it was presented in the dialogue wheel as pretty blurry ("Wait... what does that even mean?"), and did end up as the optimal thing to say when it's said. Ok... that was pretty vaguely formulated, hope you get what I mean.

So, in summary, I totally agree that genuinelly playing as RenShep is undoable. I did create a joke-Shep and chose a larger amount of the dick-phrases for funzies, but actually making those big evil deeds... I can't do it. I simply can't.

PS. Oh, and cheating on Liara is just as difficult.  DS.

Most games with a morality system, I absolutely cannot stomach being evil. When I write, I focus a characters to the point that my description writing is seriously lacking. Because of this, I have an uncanny ability to connect with characters and I'm almost always able to write, or at least think up, a spot on characterization for them. I'm usually able to make inferences on what happened in a characters past that's made them the way they are and I just click with them. I even do this with nobody NPCs. To be evil and just generally **** up character's lives, just hits me in the gut. I literally cannot do it. I believe the only game I've ever been able to go evil was KotOR and that was because it was more humorous than anything. In Mass Effect, everything feels so much more realistic and the characters react more... human than any game I've ever played before. I have to be nice, there is no other option for me. Plus, it gives me fuzzies to be the Good Guy. Add heroic music and characters praising my Shepard for her niceness and I'm all d'aww, don't mention it.....Image IPB

However, it's difficult to rescue all of my Shepard's from the loss of my Xbox. Replayability is seriously lacking. It's been a few years since I've tried to play Renegade, but I might have to try again simply because I know the Paragon dialogue practically by heart. I don't know if I'll be able to stomach it, especially with Jennifer Hale's VAing. From what I remember, she makes Renegade Shep freaking dark like nothing else.... I can't sit through Meer's performance in ME1. I've seen a lot of his work in ME3 and I know he gets better, but he's just so flat in ME and I can't listen to it. I'll try Femshep, but I might end up deleting it and simply spacebarring my way through just to get an import to ME2 which I've played through significantly less and I'm much more tolerant for repetition....

The armor plating on the ankle is nice.
Hmm.. now I just want to go and buy some boots and sheet metal, but I know it would end up ugly as hell.

Yes meer wasnt that  good in ME1 but in ME2 he is good (i dont understand why many say he sucks and he cant act) ESPECIALLY in ME3 where for me he is better than hale after harbinger laser and when you get up  you can hear the "pain" in his voice especially when he sits down with anderson

Yes, that's perfect voice acting. "*pain* Best seats in the house..."
My favourite line from him is what he tells Harbinger in the end of Arrival. That's just SPOT ON what Mass Effect is about. It's also how the ending should have been written.

Yeah, I like it. It's... calm. Should go back and get pictures of all of her expressions during that scene, noticed there's many.
Had a few screens there but couldn't remember the part of the game when it happened, so thanks!

I always play both, but mostly I prefer the "evil" side.
It brought me great moments in the Liara romance conclusion like: "We're heading into a battle to save the entire galaxy and you want to do this now?"
How can you not pick that. :D

If you want the best of the best, you have to mix it up.
Saying goodbye to Tali in the fight on Earth? Pick the Renegade dialogue, trust me, it's the better option.
In the flatterer scene with Liara, pick the Renegade dialogue. Telling Liara to talk to her father: pick the Renegade dialogue....
But you have to be careful, it's not always Paragon vs. Renegade. Sometimes it's a positiv or negative response, without consequences.

And of course if you don't want characters like Ashley and Kaidan to romance you in ME3. Renegade dialogue is just the friendship path in that case.

It's very confusing, sometimes.
And sometimes it doesn't make any sense, like in the ME3 romance conclusion. Tell Liara always that you love her, the other option is just.... I don't even have an explenation what Shep is talking about.

I actually prefer Meer at the end. He's more subtle, like he's holding back a lot of pain, but trying to stay calm and professional, as well as a bit sad during the Star Kid bit. While Hale sounds like she's going over the top with the "I'm in pain".

Depends on what you're looking for.

I think that Meer makes a better Paragon, and Hale makes a better Renegade. Hale just always sounds pissed off and frustrated and angry. Which makes perfect sense for a renegade, but it just sounds awkward to hear trying to say nice things in a pissed off angry tone.

Fanfiction, then!

Me, I'm writing a story about Matriarch Liara meeting one of Shepard's human descendants and having a ball with that.

I'm also writing a story about Aethyta becoming a Grandmother and all the dirty things she'll whisper to the kid, who'll only burble in response.

http://fc00.devianta...rit-d34tbsa.jpg

Here's my contribution as a pic for the top, but I don't know how to actively put a pic in the post.  So, there ya go.

I'm working out the next few chapters of Returned in my head.  Had to reimagine a number of things because when I mentioned the outline to a writer friend of mine she basically told me Alice was coming across as pathological.  So there's that.
