This simply means the Alliance is different. I don't think it's too far fetched to think that a military organization 170 years into the future that protects a bunch of corporate colonies would look quite different from a modern military in some ways.
Possibly though current private contractors directly emulate Western Military doctrine. A lot of that stuff is so ingrained and so old that I'd have to assume they'd adopt it as well just so they seem as "Military" as the standing armies of the various nation states. I mean we still technically practice pike drills despite a long pointy stick having no real utility against an AK-47 or a F-16. I'd like to imagine somewhere an Alliance marine is being told to get is boot bands on and shave his face before manning the OP! It warms my heart to think they're still practicing Defcon Douglas out there.
I kinda prefer the simpler explanation for why The Alliance doesn't make much sense which is that BioWare just didn't do the research and didn't ask anyone in the military how things are run. They just kinda slapped it together and hoped nobody would pay close attention and it would just sound "army-ish" enough.
Sorta like the same reason they had the Normandy's deck design not make sense, then let Shepard explain why it does only to have everyone stand in the cockpit with Joker whenever something important was happening. Since the truth was the design didn't make sense and it makes cutscenes really fracking hard to stage.
Yes, fair point. You're probably right that BioWare didn't put too much effort into the Alliance, but I'm just saying that there are at least partial explanations. Still, you do of course have a point.
About the Normandy though: It could be that Shepard simply didn't like the turian way of commanding a ship and therefor ends up standing on the bridge (Yes, it's a bridge, not a cockpit, as Joker informs you!) even if she's meant to be at the CIC.

are you writing the me2 parts now or is this a different series altogether??
ME2 stuff. It's proving to be...challenging to say the least. Although I've got some ideas in mind.

Male players who want lesbian action can play fshepxliara through all 3 games.
Have to say as a male playing Femshep with Liara as LI I take mild offence to the implication thats the ONLY reason guys put them together.

I think the problem with the cutscenes when the Normandy is in combat is that they tend to treat the Normandy as more like a fighter with a single pilot, not a warship. No one except Joker seems to do anything, so there's no reason for Shepard to be anywhere except looking over Joker's shoulder.

I think they should have made it so that Liara's "Father" was on the Normandy. So she can "look-over" her/his daughter and Shep. Now a mission with her sacrificing herself to save them both as an LI thing.... mother of god that would have been epic. And a nice little cutscene where Liara cries in your sheps arms after losing her father, oh my god I dont think I can talk about this anymore, I might tear up /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/137365.gif
I can wholeheartly agree that we should been able to recruit Aethyta, after all, the Normandy lacks a bartender!
But the second part? What would killing Aethyta acomplish from a story telling perspective, other than to add drama that I feel is not needed. Just my opinion.

Then you could have scenes with dynamics between Liara/Shep/Aethyta and it'd be neat.

I wanted Aethyta to meet Hannah Shepard (AKA Spacer Shep's mother). That would have been entertaining.
Their meeting would be knowns as "The clash of titans".

Clash? That makes it sound like they are trying to kill eachother.
It will be like all those movies where the parent(s) of each partner meets, and they hate each others guts.

In that vein, I'm gonna link Skoolmunkee's comics in case some of you haven't seen them.
Starts with this one, and go newer.

I like that idea, but Aethyta was never around when Liara grew up!

Well, they could've did a Shadow Broker thing, where you read emails between Liara and her father. Or overheard them talk on the comm.

It makes more sense if Shep is romancing Liara. They're pretty close and Shep lets Liara just walk into his cabin whenever she wants, so I mean, it's not even like he's doing something she couldn't do to him.
And I'm willing to bet Liara could use her Shadow Broker consoles to read Shep's mail if she wanted, although she really could just use Shep's own terminal I don't think a Shep romancing her would mind too much.

So I'm replaying ME1 at the moment, and I have to say... it is really boring. Especially when coming straight from ME3. I mean, the storyline and characters and all are great of course, especially the Liara romance, but all the gameplay is so boring. The conversations aren't fluid at all either. It feels great to have tons of dialogue choices though, and the Mako driving is fun as always.
Yeah. ME I liked for the story, the setting, the atmosphere, and especially the characters. The combat is not at all why I liked it.
Although what class are you? Playing an adept is hilarious, especially when you team with Liara. But the gunplay is really massively boring in ME1. But, the biotics are never more powerful than they are in ME1, so you might as well take advantage of that.
