I'm just going to say that, compared to everyone else's love interests, Liara's was the biggest of all the straws. So, even if I agree that there could have been potentially more that they could have done with Liara and Shep, the point still stands, that Liara lucked out more compared to other potential LI's.

^ This. As long as Jennifer doesn't join my other Shep for some cuddling, Liara will sleep alone! :P

Just because there's many valid complaints to be had about the other LI's, doesn't make the complaints about the Liara romance any less valid.

What you said just kinda elicits a "...so?" response from me, basically.

Well the only reason I brought it up, was because there really is no big need for more scenes involving Liara. Obviously, when compared to the other romances. I love Liara just as much everyone else here, but at least I know there really is no point in bringing up these types of discussions, because in hind sight, we have it better than others.

Just my two cents;)

That's ridiculous. There's a need for more scenes with Liara, and a need for more scenes with the other LI's. Why push for mediocrity?

That has nothing to do with it at all. I believe your just simply missing the bigger picture here. It's not about diverting attention away from Liara, it's about needing to deal with the priorities at hand. So in this case, it's the other romances which require that priority from the devs. That  isn't to say however, that I  wouldn't want to see improvements done to Liara, but realistically it just doesn't make sense for us to be as concerned about her development as others should be with their own LI's.

I see what you're saying, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't bring up the issues that are there. Let the fans of the other LIs bring up their own problems, we don't need to do it for them, or refrain from bringing up our own just because their's were neglected. This unbalanced content between the romances is Bioware's fault to begin with, so they should be the ones to field it. In the meantime, we can continue to critique, and we have the right to do. It doesn't make us ungrateful, or insensitive to other fans. It just shows our commitment to Liara and that we enjoy her romance enough to want, or even pay for more content like in LotSB.

Other fans should complain about their LIs. They got shafted. However, just because Bioware screwed them over doesn't mean we should go quiet and stop voicing our opinions. The fact that many of the other fans are dumping on Liara just because she got more attention makes this entire topic a bit frustrated as well. I get where you're coming from, and the other fans definitely deserved better, but it shouldn't be at the cost of us voicing our own issues.

Us Liara fans really have no reason to complain, it's true. Because we got the best and most developed romance in the entire trilogy when romancing Liara, but all those little things they COULD have implemented still sting a little. The romance was amazing, but it could've been even more amazing=]

I'm gonna be really specific and say the line "the little blue children will be disappointed I didn't have a speech." The way it's delivered... it's absolutely crushing...

With all of the foreshadowing, even without knowing the end I knew shepard wasn't going to make it. Liara knows. Shepard knows. But there they are, trying to put a smile on for their last moments together as they dance around this knowledge that he's not coming back.

It summed up all of the moments they will never get to have together.

ratzerman wrote...
Same here. The goodbye scene was amazing. Soul crushing, but amazing nonetheless. When Liara said her final "I love you" to Shepard, I seriously choked up. It was so final, so sad, there's no doubt in my mind that she was convinced they were both about to die.

Yeah, I'll go with that scene too as the best in ME3 because of how it made me feel. The content is extremely sad but still a little happy. Liara sounds like choking up too, tries to shake the pain off and get Shepard back focused in the end of the scene by saying "Now let's do what needs to be done.".

Aristobulus500 wrote...

Reminds me, you rarely see Liara actually go all black eyed for ME3. That got used less and less as the games went on, and I'm not sure if the phrase "embrace eternity" ever gets said, unless it does at the very end for the scene in London. I can't remember.

I thought it was interesting how that part of the Asari got used throughout ME1, and ME2 just used it in LotSB right before fading to black if Shep and Liara have sex again. It doesn't seem to happen in 3, though - not even in the sex scene. Though, at least they still had her mix in some biotic energy. Did she even glow with biotic energy like that for the sex scene in ME1, or was it just black eyes?

I think that Liara skipped the "Embrace eternity" phrase during both melds in the game because Shepard opened up for her and didn't need that "warning" anymore. Well it's not refered to as a warning anywhere, but many fanfics say that it's not needed to say anymore as they've got closer in the relationship, so I've made that my headcanon.

She had black eyes in the ME3 romance scene, but it's really not noticable without using the flycam.

Hi all, my first time posting in this thread, after occasionally peeking into it from time to time and spending way too much time the last couple of days slowly reading through the last 100 or so pages :). Nice to find a (mostly) civilised part of the forum with some great discussions and loads of pictures of our favourite asari.

Don't have a lot of time to write much more ATM, but I did want to add my little contribution to the gallery with a picture of Liara going black-eyed during the gift scene:

Honestly I stopped trying to figure out why companies do certain things, but to the DLC question. I would guess its because when ME1 came out it was early enough that they didn't think DLC would sell well enough to justify to production costs.

I wander what would have happened if Liara had a sister? I can see her being a mother to an asari paring. More purebloods so Liara isnt lonely :] Shame Bioware said she was an only child, would have been a good fanfic to go off of as well.

It really is hard to figure what the purpose of the "embrace eternity" phrase is. It's probably just some kind of Asari saying with a meaning only they really understand, kindof like the quarians' "Kee'lah See'lai"

I mean, it would be easier to think of it as something they just say before doing melds...except Samara has it in her battle phrases!

And I see you're right, Liara does have black eyes there. But what part of the romance scene is that? It's hard to tell because the background isn't recognizable, all I can see is Liara's head, and Shep isn't even in the picture to give me a frame of reference either.

Thank you, I'm seeing I was wrong, and Liara does go black eyed more than I thought, though it's apparently not as noticeable or not in frame as long as the previous games. That's a good screenshot, too.

Must've been a bit annoying trying to catch up on a thread like, you read a few pages and by the time you do that, there's more pages.
