And I see you're right, Liara does have black eyes there. But what part of the romance scene is that? It's hard to tell because the background isn't recognizable, all I can see is Liara's head, and Shep isn't even in the picture to give me a frame of reference either.

The part when they seem to float up in the air, the last moment. I just moved the camera to see only Liara, sorry.

Here:

Eyes normal --> flash --> eyes black.

Oh wow, that's actually really interesting, and makes that flash make a lot more sense. Amazing that they bothered to model/animate things like this when normally you can barely even see that that's going on. The frame the original camera gives you, you can barely tell she went black eyed.

I assume "Embrace Eternity" is a part of Siari mysticism - Shiala's speech before giving you the Cipher puts it in context.

Try to relax. Slow, deep breaths. Let go of your physical shell. Reach out to grasp the threads that bind us, one to another. Every action sends ripples across the galaxy. Every idea must touch another mind to live. Each emotion must mark another's spirit. We are all connected. Every living being united in a single glorious existence. Open yourself to the universe. Embrace eternity!

I think it's used to help reach a meditative state that aids the meld. And invokes the universal connection that fits with the connecting nature of it.

I assume that it's not necessary for the romance scenes because you get into the appropriate state of mind through other, more fun, means.

Personally, I've used this as my wallpaper for ages. Let's see if this auto scales down to a decent size.

I'm currently using this. I only just figured out that if you launch Origin from Steam and disable the Origin overlay you can use Steam to take screengrabs...

Yeah, the flash was weird for me before I knew that the eyes changed.
The scene fades out at the moment that .gif restarts. So the eyes are black for about a second or two and you don't even see it clearly from the default camera position. It's so fast that I never noticed it before floating around with the flycam.

I see where you're coming from, but man, I just disagree. I'm totally all over Asari design. Asari are an amazing alien race and I love their aesthetics when ti comes to technical design and even architecture and everything. It's all so sleek and really impressive looking. Asari design is basically what I think of when I think of "utopian futuristc sci fi alien design"

The Asari cities we see, too, are just some of the prettiest and most breath taking civilizations you actually get to see. Illium and Thessia just looked astonishing. I loved that view on Illium, of the entire Asari city.

And while Liara is, of course, my favorite Asari, I have a weakness for all Asari. Their culture and everything is just interesting, too. Though I've said a lot of why I like the Asari so much in an earlier post, I'll cut myself off here for the sake of not going on a tangent.

You disagree and that's fine. :)  No bad feeling here.

And yes, I too enjoy the Asari architecture and its smoothness, however, their aloofness, not to mention the leaders were playing dirty since they knew about the Reapers from the Prothean VI to get ahead, but still did nothing to prepare for them, rubbed me the wrong way.

Know what I mean?

Nice to find a (mostly) civilised part of the forum with some great discussions and loads of pictures of our favourite asari.

Oh.

Hey, I'm not pointing any fingers or blaming anyone :). As I was reading through the countless pages of this thread, sure, there have been the occasional heated arguments... but I was actually really impressed with how well you guys have managed to self-moderate the discussions. Others have mentioned this, but this thread is really a lot more civil than the majority of BSN. That's actually a big part of why I decided to stop just lurking and try to contribute to the discussion myself.

Must've been a bit annoying trying to catch up on a thread like, you read a few pages and by the time you do that, there's more pages.

It wasn't really annoying, as I did enjoy reading most of the discussions... it was however frustrating at times. I'd spend hours reading through several dozen pages in an evening, then wouldn't have the time to continue the next day and by the time I got back to it, there'd be a dozen or more new pages :).
Just glad I'm finally caught up so I can occasionally chime in when there's an interesting topic being discussed.

And since we're on the topic of wallpapers, I've used this one for a couple of weeks now:

I actually got the picture from this thread weeks ago, though at that time I got here from reddit. I don't remember who originally grabbed this screenshot, but if they're reading this, nice job :)

1. Set up Origin as a non-Steam game in Steam.
2. Launch Origin through Steam.
3. Disable the Origin overlay.
4. Launch ME3 through Origin and the Steam overlay should then work.

I even renamed Origin to Mass Effect 3 in my Steam Library. it's the only Origin game I have anyway.

This basically but some people, not sure if its been in this thread or one of the "other" Liara threads, have speculated that she actually mapped Shepards DNA so she could concieve if she wanted to. Whether she did or not is in the catagory of "Speculation for Everyone by Mac Walters"Image IPB

And I can't resist this other one I took a little while ago, prolly won't be able to get it again if I try.

It's a mind-meld, like back in ME1 when she melds with Shep over the Cipher. And they've done it during sex. Except this is a full mind meld, she's sharing basically everything she is, with Shepard, and connecting with him entirely. It's sharing her memories, her essence, everything - with Shepard. It's really powerful.

I will say this, if there is an older discussion you'd like to add on to, feel free to quote it and bring it back up. The thread can repeat itself at times anyway because it's so long, you shouldn't feel like you have to wait for someone else to bring up a subject to get to comment on it.

Yeah, I love her facial expression there. She just seems so happy and peaceful, and sure of herself too.  It's obviously from the sex scene but I'm not sure what part. And I've said before the texture of her skin really impresses me too. Actually looks like, well, alien skin, cause it's scaled. :V

I don't think they did know about the Reapers. I'm going to honestly ask this, so I don't repeat myself if you did, but did you read my earlier posts when I complained about, and explained how I felt the beacon on Thessia, and what it meant for the Asari - how it made no sense and was ridiculous?

...Let's not bring that up here. That nonsense doesn't belong in this thread. It's such a stupid, inane "theory" that misses the point of everything the Asari and Liara are, and everything about Liara's character, just to come up with some baseless point to try to villify her on - it's just not even worth arguing against. It has no validity.

Guys what was your favourite moment with liara in the ME trilogy?
Personally mine was the goodbye scene in london so much emotion .....

I've probably spent way too much time thinking about this, trying to narrow it down to just one scene, but in the end I just can't decide between three of them. All three I think are brilliant, though for different reasons, which is why I ultimately can't find a proper criteria to 'rank' them.

Going in chronological order, first there is the tour of the Normandy after LotSB. This is where we get the line about 'marriage, old age and a lot of little blue children', it's where Shepard promises Liara to always come back and it's where Liara finally lets go of the emotional barriers she'd kept up after losing Shepard. Even though their romance got kind of forcibly reset at the start of ME3 (I understand why BW did this, but I don't agree with it and think it should have been handled differently), for me this scene is where they really commit to their relationship. The dialogue, the tones of their voices and their body language all speak to the deep level of intimacy and trust between them, even if we do have to wait until the next game for the actual "I love you"s.

Next is the romance scene in ME3, including the post-nightmare part. Again we get some great lines, we get the "I love you"s from both of them (I especially love the version where Liara says it first, with no hesitation or doubt - a great contrast to how hesitant she was to give in to her feelings in ME2/LotSB); the body language, facial expressions, great voice acting and quality of the animations really make the scene and expressed feelings seem genuine and believable.

And finally there is the gift scene back on Earth, which I think is by far the most emotional of the three. Something in the tones of both of their voices just conveys such a gut wrenching feeling of finality and hopelessness. It's like they both know that these are their final moments together but they're trying so hard to keep it together and stay strong for each other.
Even when I played through the game for the first time, not knowing anything about the ending, through the whole game it seemed that this time Shepard really won't be coming back. But I kept hoping she might somehow survive, slim as I knew that hope to be. Until I came to this scene... as soon as I heard Liara's 'I love you. Now let's do what needs to be done.', I just knew that there would be no happy end for her and Shepard.
And even now, after I've replayed some parts of the game several times and watched many more variations of various scenes on youtube, watching this scene is as heart breaking as it was the first time, if not even more so, now that I know how it all ends. Every time I watch it, it feels like someone punched me in the gut and dropped a tonne of bricks on my chest.

Not the most well written fan-fic, but the basic events in there are exactly the type of ending that should've been possible in the game if you were a completionist and had a really high EMS. That kind of Star Wars ending is perfect for the soft sci-fi space opera that is Mass Effect. This nonsensical downer ending for the sake of being "artistic" and "deep" is just garbage and I'll never accept it.

Far as I'm concerned, indoctrination theory was true, then Shepard wakes up and basically what happens in that fanfic happens.

I don't know, however there is a bug where the game won't recognize that you completed LotSB, and Liara will act as if it's been years since you were together.

You can fix that with Gibbed's editor, though, and just set the flags to true. Then she'll recognize it - she says "6 months" I believe, instead of years, and in the first scene on the Normandy, she says "I'll never forget that tour of the Normandy, but are you sure this is what you want" or something.

If there's any other lines that are outright not in the game regardless of flags, I haven't heard of it.

But... there's still a chance for reunion in the Destroy ending. (And yeah, I've moved from completely rejecting the ending to being faintly hopeful about the Extended Cut.)
