Liara Fans: keep your love blue and true!

Still pinning *some* hope on the EC, but the well-written fic makes the wait bearable. Liara's Visit hits hard, no doubt about that. Even after 4 or 5 readthroughs, I tear up.

Yeah, I also love themarshall's stories, the ones I've read so far anyway; sadly I haven't gotten around to 'A Good Night' yet, but it's certainly on my 'to read' list. His Returned actually made me think that Synthesis ending could maybe somehow be made acceptableAkernis wrote...
That was how I felt reading theMarshall's "A Good Night" yesterday, even had to temporarily stop my own fanfic writing because I was overwhelmed at the quality in contrast to my own work.frudi wrote...
I wish I shared the authors skill with words, just so I could properly convey how amazing I found this peace of fiction.

And I'm hoping to have a 5th chapter out by this weekend. I've had papers and midterms to deal with this past week, so writing's taken a back seat.

I'm writting a oneshot about Liara and Shep 's date with help from Moreeman. I hope it will turn out ok. But everyday I can only come up with 3 lines for the story @.@ it will take a while to finish this.

So what do you propose people do?

I honestly couldn't help it. I put this in an author's note at the end of the first chapter, but I had been talking with jtav a few days before I reached the ending (when I had just discovered what was in store for me) and she mentioned the messianic parallels with Synthesis. She said they had given her Good Friday, and all she had to do was write Easter. The idea of a rebirth of some sort was very appealing, despite everything else, and this story sprang forth almost fully formed in my head.
I still consider it AU because of how strongly I dislike the endings, but I still wanted to explore it.
And the whole thing isn't gonna be depressing! Just... most of it.

If I ever made a fanfic (which I probably won't [can't write worth crap]) I'd probably make my entirely own ending. That kind of ending that you sort of think about now and then but never really develop because it sounds unrealistic and cliché. Well, screw cliché, I just want - no I need Shepard to KILL EVERY SINGLE REAPER and have another really beau- scratch that, SEVERAL more really beautiful moments with Liara.
In other news, I finished playing Dead Space 2 yesteday. Without giving away any spoilers I have to say that the conclusion to this installment is absolutely breathtaking. Even though I know there's a third game coming, I now see that there is FULL potential in any game, in even the most hopeless situations, to have a satisfying ending. It would have been REALLY easy for BioWare to simply let us destroy the Reapers - no strings attached, if they felt they didn't have the time to create what they wanted from the start.

Yeah, the story has been more than amazing so far. Gives a whole other meaning to synthesis. It's so mysterious and... yeah.frudi wrote...
His Returned actually made me think that Synthesis ending could maybe somehow be made acceptable. Seriously though, everything in Returned, from the mystery surrounding synthesis and Alice's return, to the overwhelming emotions displayed in the latest (4th) chapter, has so far been an amazing read. I can't wait for new chapters...
I wonder how she came back alive. I wonder if she ever finds back to her love.
I somehow like them. I can't even remember the last time I felt actual happiness, so the sad stories work for me.Aristobulus500 wrote...

But yeah, I get your point. I haven't seen any ending fanfics that completely rewrote the end, never even mentioning the child or those three choices.
Don't worry, atleast I love it. Could make the reunion / ending? more powerful.TheMarshal wrote...

Actually been considering giving it a shot myself.
Although I've also been considering a crossover fanfic to "fix" the current ending. I'll keep that a surprise in case I decide to do it but its likely to be quite silly.

On the Fanfic side some of the ending stories out there aren't all depressing. Synthesis by Sy Itha is pretty good so far. I wish the author would post another update but beggers can't be choosers. I'm sure there are others out there that are good too just havn't found them yet.

Exactly. There's no reason to even pay lip service to that garbage, any more than you would some fanfic a 12 year old wrote and uploaded to fanfiction.net
You're writing an entire fanfic here, use that freedom! Have a little imagination! You have the freedom to completely rewrite the ending to something not terrible, use it.
I hate all these sad, depressing fanfics because that's not Mass Effect. Mass Effect is a space opera, not a ****ing classical tragedy. I don't turn on Star Wars so I can be brought to tears and I didn't get invested in ME so I could watch everything crumble to dust either. There's nothing wrong with sad moments - things like Mordin dying on Tuchanka are very powerful - but the entire thing should not be a tragedy.
And a few fanfics here and there trying to be different and testing out a tragedy would be okay, but it's becoming a cliche. Every fanfic writer everywhere is writing ME tragedies! And how can they not? If you try to write with that ending in mind, there is no way to do anything else.
But there's no reason to keep that ending. There's a freedom there to just completely ignore it, and then you don't HAVE to write a depressing tragedy.

I really dislike sad endings and grealty enjoy happy ones, as long as they fit with the story. But while there are tragidies being written there are also several writers that create some really great work.

Oh yeah, I don't plan on ever acknowledging the endings again once Returned has wrapped. I'll either return to writing fluffy post-ME3 stories where the defeat of the Reapers is hand-waved away or maybe pick up Observer and give that story another go. No need to dwell on the endings, but for now they're still fresh in our minds and, well, the fics reflect that.

There are also a couple of other good fanfics that aren't all sad og gritty.
I also like fanfics that build on the existing ending because then I can read the fanfics after I complete ME3. This way the ending doesn't seem as bad as it actually is. I can therefore keep the appeal of the game up for a longer period of time.
