I was exaggerating, though none of the other races seems to have this problems, or perhaps I simply notice it with the asari as I like them better than most.

I honestly like the background touches Neeh puts into his work - the scenery and all. Like, look at that - it's not just Shepard's cabin or Liara's office, it appears to be an apartment on the Citadel - entirely new, and it's an interesting look into a more casual scene for Shep/Liara, instead of always being on the Normandy, y'know.

If a Union is the same as a Joining than according to Liara it is not necessary, though I imagine it would make it easier (and more pleasurable).

The problem is the fic. It is about Liara wants to have Shepard and Shep's lover (James) DNA as a gift in case they die . And she had a 3some with them. And then Javik come to meld with her after Thessia mission. To cheer her up or clear her mind or something and they have sex. I told the author that she/he is ruining Liara's character. The game makes it clear that Liara doesn't like causal sex, fling, and Liara is serious in relationship. If she want their DNA she could just say "embrace eternity" and put her palm on them. The sex part is not necessary. And I told her/him about my point of view about Liara x Javik paring. She/he told me that she/he appreciated my point and our argument made her/him understand more about Liara. She/he wanted to know my thoughts on Liara's story. I told her/him that If Shepard doesn't love Liara in her/his fic, let Liara be with someone who love her. It could be Feron.

Ah, arguing with a smut fic writer is pretty pointless...especially if they don't care about the characters but only want to write a smut fic. 
Not that there aren't any good ones out there....but then love is usually involved which justifies the smut quite nicely....if it is well written. But stories like the one you mention...meh....that's smut for the sake of smut. It gets tiresome if they constantly throw their 3somes and 4somes around, here's the toys and there's my grandma on top of it. <_<

My only guideline was that nothing is contradicted by the games.

The games were intentionally vague about everything, but I think we can say that it is canon that physical touch is not required.

Well I agree with that, that story seems... out of character, to say the laest.

I also do not think that asari can "store" someones DNA. it is either use it for procreation or not at all. as far as a I am aware.

Are you using IE? If so, then it's your fault really. Otherwise, the clip should play normally once it has finished loading (which might mean that the first time will be much slower - the animated thing is 9.35 MB, 100x larger than the still image)

Oh, and it's nice to have something funny/cute... there's too much sexy out there already.

Well, sure. I mean, as I said during that whole "tasteful nudity" discussion that popped up after the Liara midriff pic kept getting posted, just because something is explicit doesn't mean it's automatically tasteless or out of character.

What I said for pictures basically carries over to fanfics and such, too. It's about whether or not the work - be it text, graphical, or whatever - is about the characters and their emotions and passions, or if it's just about the sex act and the characters are merely tools to allow the sex act to happen.

I haven't read the fanfic you mentioned but the principle applies.

Or just anything Mass Effect and Liara by Rae. I've been deliberately avoiding the "Can Wait" stories since, as I understand it, they're meant to fit in the plot like mine are so I don't want to screw up what I want to write by having her stuff subconscious. But Rae does a lot of on-request sexually-charged fics which are quite...ah...interesting.
