I enjoyed hearing Ash & Kaidan talk about Virmire to Tali as well. It is a shame that these weren't in the game. There was a really good dialogue with Shepard & Ashley that got cut as well where she asks if he saw anything when he died. He tells her that he didn't ... This for me would have been a really honest and in character dialogue between Ashley and PV Shepard.
I saw that cut too and I felt that the game really should have kept it. Ashley is a rather good example of a video game character that believes in God. Really, it's actually a break in her character that she doesn't ask Shepard about his/her death. To be honest, I would have liked to talk with her about this because I would have been interested in the question myself, especially if we had an option to lean towards seeing something if the player was religious themselves. So many cut corners....

So I just started a default 'numerous casulties' playthrough of ME3. Liara says commander in the ' isn't it worth trying at least' convo instead of her saying Shepard. I was wondering if that also happens with an import that doesn't have Liara as the LI, or if it's only in the default.
I just used my friend's save files. She didn't play ME1 and romanced Tali in ME2, and did the lotSB DLC. Liara said " Commander. isn't it worth trying at least"

I know we passed the fanfic discussion but I just have a question, when you guys read ME fanfics do you prefer when the author uses Shepard's first name so that it is more realistic or when he/she is simply referred to as "Shepard" so that it is more immersive?
Welcome~! I really like A Thessian Whisper as well, I'm wondering if Liara will see the Prothean afrtifact that she gave to "Preacher Woman" and if Shepard will see the cross that was given to her... :happy:PMC65 wrote...

I am always grateful and truth be told surprised to hear that others like my headcanon for EW Shepard & Liara.

I know that things needed to be cut but with the VS there was so little really that it would have been nice to keep what there was. Shepard really never gets to talk about dying, the hereafter, etc in the game ... I guess that Bioware figured to just not go there. But then it also allows each of us to fill in the blanks.

Resurrecting an old question since I wasn't here all day.
It depends on the perspective. If the narration is focused on other characters, "Shepard" makes sense. Liara et al would likely refer to Shepard as "Shepard," save for more intimate moments. If it's Shepard herself/himself as the primary POV, though, it feels odd. I suppose your mileage may vary, but whenever I read a story that insists on referring to Shepard as "Shepard," even when they are the primary POV character, I feel hugely disconnected from the story. I'm not reading a story about "Shepard". I'm reading a story about a Shepard, and that Shepard has a name.

I dunno. It highly depends on your interpretation. My Shepard accepted the gift and doesn't consider it as "cheating" or something, but it's still a very intimate experience.PMC65 wrote...
As someone who has a Shepard for each I don't see them being "friends" but also not "enemies". With my male Shepard who is with Ash he considers Liara a friend ... This might sometimes make Ashley a little jealous but it does not stop her from being concerned about Liara after Noveria, Thessia and she even protects Liara from the crazy metal woman.
When it comes to the "gift" if I ever play PV Shepard in ME3 (due to the ending I've never played my canon EW or my guy PV) he would accept the gift. Contrary to what some think they did not "meld" and have mind sex. She touched his mind like in ME1 ... nothing more. PV Shepard would not consider what they did cheating since it was by no means sexual in nature and is just a way that the asari can communicate. But I also could see a Shepard turning her down because (s)he hates that type of communication/exchange.
Keep in mind: women tend to see emotional attachment as cheating, men consider sex as cheating. So we have two different levels of "when does cheating start". Let's say Liara just shared memories and didn't do any sexy mindsex stuff, it's still scratching the "emotional attachment level". Ash could consider it as cheating, especially since she had displayed little understanding of Asari culture before.
So even if my Shepard does not consider it as "cheating", Ash may do. She's the jealous type and out of the women in the series, Liara urges Ash more violent responses. Won't debate here if that's fair or not, but I can see where it comes from and I can see the misunderstandings. My Shepard wants to keep Liara as a friend. Ashley may mind that - or at least won't feel that easy. Yeah, she might not hate Liara, but she definitely won't feel easy as well.
Liara on the other hand, being an Asari, has the "disadvantage" of her foreign culture. She's not that much experienced with human (western) culture and therefore may run into issues. Especially since her attempts to be a friend of Shepard can be mistaken as romantic interest (which may be the case). Ash needs to accept that fact and Liara may tune down it a bit and there is a high chance they get along one day.
That, of course, is just my interpretation and headcanon. Actually, on the long run Ash & Liara become as close friends as Liara is with Shepard already.

Think I should share that with you guys - or:
How I finally made peace with Liara.
For the record: the "gift scene" on Earth gave me some issues earlier. I never was able to take the renegade answer since it would make my Shepard feeling like a d*ck towards Liara - who simply doesn't deserve it, after all what she had done for him.
Still, it also felt not right to accept the gift. Main reason is ... well, the "mindsex argument". However, I think I found a way out of this ... thanks to PMC65. She gave me the right idea.
Have a read

You're not alone. I practically tossed Kaidan overboard after LotSB.I'm not saying he's a bad LI but, he never went to the lengths Liara did (albeit I did have some resverations on her actions) and he was most annoying in ME 2. His attitude improved just a tinny bit in ME 3 but he still doesn't measure up to Liara.

Hey, everybody!
I've been a long-time lurker here and because I couldn't get my game registered for quite some time I only managed to read through this thread and occasionally save some of the posted pictures here, but now that I did register I can finally post.
It's great to see so many Liara fans and I'd love to discuss our favorite asari with the rest of you, and maybe share my grief over the atrocious ending(s) that neither Mass Effect 3 nor any of the characters within deserve. That's my personal opinion, of course, the lack of closure between Shepard and Liara one of the many reasons I feel that way. I try not to be hopeful that the Extended Cut will fix them, but I can't help it sometimes.
Anyway, it's great to be finally here!

Exactly what I'm doing. Back when you can notice that there's apparent passion behind the creation of every single mission, conversation, and planet. Especially the Suicide Mission and LotSB. It's about my sixth playthrough and I still stumble upon new things in the game. Truly a masterpiece!

By the way, I've read most of your blogs, and I can't overstate how
well you put what most of us feel in words. You've done a truly great
job expressing why we care about the characters of Mass Effect,
Shepard, about the universe and races as a whole, why this is more than
just a game for us, and why we don't like seeing it torn apart with just
ten minutes worth of in-game content.
I've been linking this whenever I see someone talking about feeling weird being sad about the characters in the game or something similar. :3 How many views does it have? The Lightspeaker wrote...
