Sweet! Now just add a lot of blown off armor, a lot of wounds, weary faces and change the background so they're on Earth after the battle, waiting for alliance medics to pick them up. It's kind of how I wanted the battle itself to end...

edit - here you go: www.youtube.com/watch. Be sure to check the comments and stop the video where it says you should if you want a happy ending. If you don't... be warned, the full video ends on a very sad note. I didn't read the comment and watched the whole thing... it hit me like a ton of bricks

That, or maybe I’m just getting tired of all the negativity. I’m *this* close to just not bothering with my constructive/compromise threads anymore because they don’t gather enough interest amidst the for/against shouting.
…So it’s nice that there’s at least one happy place! Thanks.

I did take the time to read Rae's '... can wait' fanfics (and subsequently some of her others as well) and all I can say is 'WOW!'. They were really amazing... passionate, hot, tasteful, well paced and, maybe most importantly, totally faithful to the characters we've come to know from the games (at least to how me and probably most of us here have come to interpret them).
Sounds like something I'd want to read. Does anybody have a link for these stories?

Specifically, you want to read the "Can Wait" series. I'll edit this post with a link to those 3 specifically

I actually have yet to some across one of Rae's Mass Effect fanfics that I don't like. They are all really well written and there is a bit of humor in quite a few of them. Lol I'm beginning to wonder if I ever should have posted those to begin with, shame on me I have corrupted the entire thread with sexy fanfics.

Maybe, but I think the "Can Wait" series is probably the best. I haven't actually read anything else, but just from a cursory glance at the summaries, I got the impression many of the other stories Rae has written are...somewhat less tasteful than the "Can Wait" series.

Some of it is quite kinky and explicit, yes. Very well written though.
Can't compare to "Can Wait" though because I'm the opposite, not read them but read other stuff.

The wiki is good I also use the website Mass Effect Universe to help with the setting on some of my fics, its a fansite but they tend to lay down a more detailed groundwork for things that are not fully explained in the games/fic/comics. Truly they're the best "explicit" fanfics I've read so far and they go straight to my "this is what really happened in the game" -headcanon.Aristobulus500 wrote...

I also didn't get the impression they were in any way overly explicit - even the most descriptive and explicit parts aren't there just for the hell of it, rather they help to portray the passion and intimacy between Liara and Shep. Really an amazing read, thanks to everyone for linking and recommending them (I'd thank the author for writing them, but guess she'll never read this).
I will definitely be incorporating these scenes into my own mental vision of what joining with an asari would feel like.
Exactly. I've definitely incorporated that into my own canon. I can't comprehend it being any other way after seeing it so masterfully portrayed there - it made perfect sense. Especially the way the Joining was so completely integral to an Asari.
And you make a good point - even the most explicit parts DID have a purpose beyond mere titillating fanservice. That's part of what made it all so powerful, even the "hottest" bits served a strong purpose in showing the love and intimacy between Shep/Liara, none of it was sex for sex's sake.
I linked these too a few pages back:
Totally Worth It, got a laugh out of the few funny bits. Liara will always be shy deep down.
Taken, something to think about asari physiology. Warning for Aristobulus, Shepard says that Liara belongs to her.

Interesting thanks for the infoI suspect ill need some research when I get to the point of my Shep moving towards being a vanguard, Ill admit I dont know much about how one "enters" into a program to be trained as a biotic.
I suppose they will enter some form of test to see their preformance with their biotics. The most powerful will perhaps be trained to utilize their biotics as utility and support (adepts), while others will be trained to utilize their powers til complement in CQC (vanguards), sentinels I will guess are people who are not as powerful as the adepts but still train their biotics for support.

Thanks for these links! I just read them all, and I think that they're amazing. I really liked their first joining before the attack on Ilos - as much as Shepard was new to the mind melding then, so was the reader, and the author has really managed to describe the overwhelming combination of feelings during these intimate encounters, and just how different they are - a union of minds and bodies alike. It is a depiction of the palpable love between Shepard and Liara.
And in 'Hagalaz Can Wait' we're also shown that it's a new experience for Liara, too - these sensations shared with Shepard possibly being the greatest discovery she'd ever make. Very tastefully written, and I also now consider it canon.
Interesting how conceiving a child would feel. Liara does say that it's the only thing that supersedes the pleasure of the joining. I wonder whether Rae has plans to continue the series, though I guess that with the ending being as it is now, Liara and Shepard might not have the chance to experience that...

I definitely agree with you - I've said this before but it's so powerful I can't really stop gushing about it. My favorite moment is probably the bit in Illos where Shepard and Liara first start the Joining - to me it's so powerful because of way Liara is depicted as needing it, that she's practically begging Shep to let her do it - she's basically in pain at holding herself back from doing it. It's a much more powerful depiction than the typical portrayal that mind melding is just something Asari *can* do to spice up and enhance sex, but are perfectly okay not doing.

Kaidan talks about the training in ME1. It’s changed for the better since, but they’re roughly of age with Shepard.

Well, since Shepard isn't an L2 biotic I think we can assume his training was a lot different (and less unpleasant), which makes me wonder... how old is Kaidan? Is he older than Shepard or was it just that Shepard's biotics were discovered later?

Kaidan was 32 in ME1 I believe compared to Shepard who was 28.

Yeah, from what I remember it's described as a developed biological urge to encourage asari to choose to conceive in order to propagate the species because they can choose whether or not to. So they have to resist this overwhelming, slightly painful and lustful urge to conceive when they get into a deep enough melding.
Fair warning if you intend to read that particular fic, it gets pretty explicit.
Edit: Ok, thats actually a pretty good top of the page for a change, not sad or depressing or anything.

This is something that I imagined when playing through ME1 for the first time and listening to Liara describe the mind melding, the life-changing experience of it. But Rae has put it so well into words, expanded on it, and made it truly believable and unique.
As for you previous comments about the fan fiction from a bit earlier in the thread about Shepard being the dominant one, I think that she acted a bit possessive in order to relay the message that she wanted the joining as much as Liara did, giving the latter confidence, in a way, so that she would not be afraid to initiate the mind melding wondering whether that is what Shepard really wants. After all, Shepard's more familiar with the physical part of the joining than she is with the spiritual one, a new concept for her. But that's only one way to look at it.
