Kaidan talks about the training in ME1. It’s changed for the better since, but they’re roughly of age with Shepard.

Well, since Shepard isn't an L2 biotic I think we can assume his training was a lot different (and less unpleasant), which makes me wonder... how old is Kaidan? Is he older than Shepard or was it just that Shepard's biotics were discovered later?

Kaidan was 32 in ME1 I believe compared to Shepard who was 28.

Alright then, that should be enough time to explain why Shepard wasn't put in BAaT.

In Totally Worth It she describes it as a fever that Liara has to "fight against" not to concieve a child.
Or something, can't remember, anyways it made sense when I read it.

Yeah, from what  I remember it's described as a developed biological urge to encourage asari to choose to conceive in order to propagate the species because they can choose whether or not to. So they have to resist this overwhelming, slightly painful and lustful urge to conceive when they get into a deep enough melding.

Fair warning if you intend to read that particular fic, it gets pretty explicit.

Yep, they'd need some urge to have children or the species could die out.

The story is not for everyone and Rae even warns about it in the beginning.
I didn't get why Shepard would like it to be done in a "human way" but I just thought it was some random idea that Liara got while trying to understand humans and Shepard just went with it not to disappoint Liara. :P

I've adopted her Taken fics pheromones to my headcanon, sounds interesting enough. Makes her feel more "alien" and that's just a good thing. Like the need for joining that Rae described earlier and of course the higher texture skin Liara got in ME3.

Honestly I felt it was a mixture of both their desires to please the other as much as possible due to their love. A sort of mix of Shepard wondering if she's doing all she can for Liara and Liara's desire for Shepard to be happy with her.

Damn...now I want to go re-read that one but I know if I do I really WILL need a cold shower. :P

Edit: Yeah, the stuff in Taken is really good and I like the idea personally. Might keep it for my own headcanon. Perhaps even keep the basic concept for my work, we'll see.

Even after having read it I can still barely understand how one person can write something so good that many if not most of us simply consider it canon... or at the very least collective headcanon.

Why is it every time I see it written that way I can't help but imagine Kaidan in wool and bleating?

Not that he doesn't bleat at the best of times. *burn*

It's because Rae paid intense attention to the lore and culture/portrayal of things like the Asari and their culture, and how their abilities and such tend to work, and equal attention to the characterization and personalities of Liara and Shepard, so that the portrayal was so spot on, it is very, very easy to imagine everything happening exactly as it's portrayed, and the Asari really do work like that, because it all makes perfect sense with what we've seen in the games.

Agreed, that and she is one hell of a good writer Image IPB.

Didn't you say that you're not reading anything so you wouldn't get too many ideas from someone else or something?
I think that pheromone thing could make up endless funny/awkward situtations in fanfics.

I absolutely love Liara. Really, everything about her. She exemplifies what I look for in a woman, and the only thing I don't like about her is that I can't find a real woman like her! Her compassion, integrity, smarts, 'nerd' skills, subtle
shyness, and just her overall beauty really do give me the star struck eyes.

No matter what Liara will always be my beautiful blueberry space muffin.

Welcome! You're typing out loud what many here think.
But she's my muffin you meanie! :crying: Only mine..... -_-  (That was a joke.)

I started reading one-shot short stuff when I was on downtime playing through ME2 because I was slowly going mad. Deliberately avoiding anything substantial that might mess with the actual plot ideas (which is my biggest fear).

Concepts are ok, it's plot points and scenes I want to avoid messing with.

I actually haven't been reading anything lately for lack of free time. Are these scenes/plot points that you're afraid of lifting coming from in-game events? Or from stuff completely separate from what's happening in-game?

True, I am most creative at evening and night so I was up all night yeasterday to work on fanfic and have havn't sleept for 36+ hours straight and still only barely tired.
But it is so close to being done... might take this night up too.
But then I would likely just collapse and end up dreaming about Liara & Shep fics... on the other hand that might not be so bad afterall  Image IPB

...though I guess that with the ending being as it is now, Liara and Shepard might not have the chance to experience that...

Don't worry too much about it, I believe Normandy's crew will be rescued very soon, maybe within days. They were either travelling through regular FTL or they went through the Charon relay, which only leads to Arcturus system. In the former case they can't have gotten far anyway and in the latter they would end up somewhere between Earth and the 38 light years distant Arcturus. Either way, they're at worst just a couple of days at FTL away. And they still have QEC devices on board, so they can let the Alliance know of their location and keep in touch until rescue arrives.

So, even if after EC we're still stuck with the endings in pretty much their current form, just pick destroy, survive, go get your blueberry back and imagine their future of "marriage, old age and a lot of little blue children" :).
That's pretty much my current head-canon, with the addition that with my >11k EMS both Geth and EDI also survive...

No, what I mean is that I want the key scenes for my fic to be evisaged by myself.

In all honestly it's probably just the scientist in me. I'm worried that any kind of influence from other writer's will be seen as plagiarism.I don't know how people take to their work inspiring other work for fics. Is a shame, really want to read some of these fics. :-\\

Have you seen the "Can Wait" fanfics? That's been something significant you might've missed, not sure.

Mostly you missed a lot of cold showers and "I'll be in my bunk"s... the result of some intriguing fanfics . Just read the last couple of pages, it will be well worth it...

“Art is either plagiarism or revolution.” – Gauguin.

Everything influences you to some degree, even just reading these forums. It might, in fact, be better going in knowing you’re trying to avoid influences rather than them creeping up on you unexpectedly :)

Still, I respect the thought – although I don’t think anyone would actually accuse you anyway.

I'm the same way ... I avoid femshep & Liara fics as a rule. After I finish my currrent story I'll probably take a look at some stories I've been hearing good things about but for now I'll pick up Austen, Dickens, etc.

OT: I'm feeling up but unable to write ... Raphael Sbarge (Kaidan) and Kimberly Brooks (Ashley) have tweeted that they went back into the studio for ME3.

Kim's tweet today read "On my way home from a recording session for a project you may be familiar with ... #ME3"

Raphael wrote 4 days ago "Just when you though I would never go back, they keep PULLING me back in #MassEffect3!! Recording!! yay! Wha-hoo!" RS also included a pic of the mic and station in the studio.

Nothing from Hillis or Hale yet ... or Courtenay T. (Jack) ... But I'm watching.

My problem is I've got like...20 pages of A Dance with Dragons left and then I'm out of new novels for the most part. ;)

Although I think I've got all the Sherlock Holmes stuff about here somewhere...maybe I'll read that.

I’m gathering up the big list of fanfic on the Fan Creations forum. Maybe there’s some new Garrus/whatever there, if only Liara stuff is risky?

I think you hit the nail on the head right there. Personally, I'm with many of you here in that freckleshep only looks "right" with Liara. I also blame Neeh (inspiring and delightful, as always!) and I agree with Yuqi's color theory.

OMG so I'm not insane!I knew the colour scheme of new Jane was suspect...and I wasn't just over thinking.*Cough*
