If you want to img link it, put [.img] before it, and [./img] after it. without the .
Url linking is the same except replace "img" with "url"

Will you people please stop posting links to fanfics? Geesh, I literally have a group of more than two dozen tabs open in my browser with stories I still have to get around to reading. I blame you lot that Opera has been using well over 1 GB of RAM for days now... hm, it's actually closer to 2 GB at times.
*in EDI's voice, just to make sure I don't accidentally offend anyone*: "that was a joke" =]

Yep, same here.
I have 58 tabs open at the moment and 49 of them are Liara fanfics that I have no time to read. Tho Firefox is happy with 622 MB of RAM. Almost every day I get a few new tabs more of Liara fanfic.
I never knew I'd say this but... there's just too much Liara ! :P

Antagonizing venom?  Now that's hyberbole and you know it.  The fact she can work with aliens dispells the very notion that she's xenophobic.  Hell, even Pressley's more xenophobic than she is and if you've gone to Alchera, then you realize that he changed.

As for her behavior in ME3, I highly doubt the writers planned to have her act the same whiny, condescending way Kaidan was in ME1.  If the ending was of any indication, a lot of her content got cut due to release date.

But you know what?  I'm done.  I'm not going to try and convince you people about Ashley anymore, since it seems that you've already made up your minds about her, despite the evidence to the contrary.

*hugs*

I feel your pain! As someone who adores both Ashley and Liara it seems these two characters are constantly bashed. But I have learned to just ignore the haters and move on ... it makes life easier.

But can we not bash other characters on this thread? If you want to discuss your views on Ash then head over to the Ashley thread ... Just be forewarned that they have heard it all and actually have an arsenal of data from both the writers to devs on her character ... Just sayin'.

Nearly no one has bashed Ashley, the only bashing that has occured was Iliya's bashing of Kaidan. I for one actually think Ashley is very interesting, I just said that she is xenophobic early on in ME1 and is hostile towards Liara. I also said that how she acts towards Liara changes later on and that her attitude on aliens is understandable considering she hasn't had much contact with aliens and her family past, but that doesn't make it less xenophobic. I never meant for any of what I said to be taken as hating or bashing. I'm doing my first playthrough with Ashley alive right now to see what she's like in ME3, damn it! :(

And like Band of Brothers these two characters if they were real would not be impressed with outsiders blasting them. They were in the trenches together and Ashley was there when Liara lost her mother and also after Thessia. I wish that they had shown the scene of Ashley comforting Liara after Thessia. Of course, I have my own headcanon of that moment.

And turians, asari, and salarians act any different?  The sheer condescension turians show for humans is rather palpable.  Especially from Sparatus.

And it is semantics.  She's wary of them, not the horrible racist monster so many people erroneously label her as.  You can argue all you like, it's apples and oranges unless people who incorrectly find reasons to dislike her stick to it.

It is the labels that people put on her.  Unjustly, it seems.  So, it's evidently her problem if the Alliance feels fit to punish *her* for something her *grandfather* did.

Whoa now, let's not go generalising about entire species based on some of their characters with crappy attitudes. Naturally there will be own-species-centric characters in every species, that doesn't justify labelling billions of others the same way or justifying equally questionable attitudes in anyone else. Beside some bad apples we see, there are also plenty of examples of characters from all species that bare absolutely no animosity towards humanity. Heck, pretty much all allied species in the galaxy do come to humanity's aid in some capacity, on both the grand (fleets and troops) and personal scale (individuals helping other individuals in need, regardless of species), often times at great cost to themselves.

Just to try and calm the discussion down a bit... I don't really dislike Ashley in general and I can understand why she would feel the way she does, even if I strongly disagree with her views. She does have many other redeeming qualities, so it's quite a shame they ended up portraying her as whiny as they did in ME3, I think she actually deserved better.

Yeah, bashing Ashley? What?
The things people posted here that Ashley said are fact, she does indeed say those in the game. She's not very nice to Liara in ME1.

For my defence, there's no character in the Mass Effect series that I don't like and Ashley survived Virmire in my canon run.
Kaidan was always so quiet that I almost forgot about him, but I'm playing a renegade playtrough with him atm tho.
From a gameplay point of view his reave goes well with Liara and a biotic Shepard. ^_^

Very true. I believe that Kaidan's story about Vyrnnus is an extremely good example of this. Members of every species are like us - there are saints, and then there are jerks. But you can't judge an entire race because of the actions of one person, and Kaidan doesn't hold his past with Vyrnnus against the turians, nor should he.

There are always some aliens here and there that would always think that humans are a 'blight on galactic purity', as one notable batarian has expressed, and there'll always be humans that think the same about aliens. Ashley just happens to be in that camp, or at least exhibits mistrust of them. As we've already established, she's a very well-written character nonetheless, apart from that over-exaggerated distrust bit in ME3.

I don't particularly like defining Ashley by her prejudices. We all have them, in some manner, whether we want to admit them or not. By all counts, I suppose Ashley's racism, or perhaps just prejudice seeing as she's not really that bad, should bother me considering I'm biracial. Racism tends to get on my nerves because whatever way you slice it, it's all stupid on both sides. However, the thing is, we get to talk with Ashley about different topics that have nothing to do with aliens. Her service record, family, the Alliance. I also have only sisters and I'm also the eldest. Her story with... erm... Sarah? Anyway, the story with her youngest sister endeared her to me, despite her using that metaphor with the dog and the bear, which made me cringe....

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that Ashley isn't a saint. However, if you can find something in common with her, it becomes difficult to dislike her even with her prejudices. Prejudices I would normally not tolerate. It can be difficult to hate someone once you get to know them.

I've just seen how this type of discussion never ends well ... you know a character is discussed on another fan thread. Somehow the discussion goes off track and accusations against that character are without merit or their traits are held under a blaring light that makes that mole on them 200 times bigger.

If anyone here really wants to "like" her character but is struggling with their version of who they see her as then my advice would be to go into the Ashley thread with an open mind and discuss her there.

If you like the image that you have of her as a Xeno, racist, [put negative trait here), etc etc then I'm cool with that but just don't start voicing it on poor little Liara's thread. Some of us fans of ME3 actually like other characters ... Look at poor misguided Moreeman and Tali. Tali ... yuck! Image IPB

While I have let slip my distaste for certain other characters in this thread, I think we should strive our best to keep the hate out of this thread.

And as interesting this discussion about Ashley is, is it not starting to get slightly off-topic? :?
