See I just read your last post and you say they "formed a tight knit group fighting Saren". Well I didn't feel that from her in ME2 nor in ME3. Apart from "designated affection times" like the "name in the stars" thing I don't get the sense of comradeship at all. In ME2 the excuse was she was being watched so she had to stay all emotionless. Great. Didn't really fly in Shadow Broker but again maybe she was just distrought over Feron (why oh why didn't I get a delay option on rescuing him<_<). But what's ME3's excuse?

She was far more interested in ME1 and you know what I prefer that over the next two games. Because even though it's a "dissect for science" kind of interest for the first bit at least it's constant.

My take: In ME2 Liara is stuck in a war with the Shadow Broker after rescuing Shepard and giving them to Cerberus. It's been months (at least), she has no idea what Cerberus has done. If it's really you. If they warped you into something else. If she made a horrible mistake and gave Cerberus a new weapon. You see her initial, emotional reaction when you first meet (if romanced, can't remember the platonic version): she kisses you, instantly, then looks lovingly in your eyes. Then she snaps out of it (probably, after remember who brought you back. Maybe she uses the fetch quest she gives you as way to both: a) process that you're back, B) see if it's really you. And you have to remember LotSB can take place right after this quest. So she's really processing all this in a couple of hours. You're in combat all the way upto Azure. And that's when you get the opportunity to start working through the fact that you're back. I see her focus as a coping mechanism. This is very evident in once you beat the Broker and she starts crying. It's all over, you're back. It's relief and happiness (and more, if you romanced her).

In ME3, you're in the middle of war. I know I wanted to see some more romantic moments when I went down to her quarters but that's more a desire from me, not necessarily what the characters would do in that situation. And Liara's feelings break through at various moments. She's a very private individual (as several characters note) and she only really shows how she feels when her and Shep are in private or manage to get a few moments alone.

It would have been nice, though, if Shepard could cuddle up behind Liara at the console while they talked. Something similar to the above GIF (but in reverse).

I wonder if this was scrapped. Or we might get it in another DLC. Still not a fan of the Alliance logo being on there, but it's (IMO) the right 'type' of armour for Liara. Maybe replace the red with blue.

Would be cool if she ever gets some asari commando leathers. Maybe a gift from dad? =]

Hmmm...I like. This does definitely fit her better than that heavy armor she currently has. Kind of reminds me of Pheonix armor, actually.

Now why couldn't we have a scene like that for those who already committed to Liara on the Normandy instead of being asked if we still want to continue the relationship on the citadel? :(

Oh well, least the fan created stuff never disappoints.

I have a general question for everyone (probably been brought up before, but still...).

What outfit do you give Liara in ME3?

I give her the white heavy armour. I think, since there is a war on, she needs greater protection. It's like 'Battle Liara' or something. Same with Tali, I give her the second one (I think) that has more armour on the helmet/waist. I also wanted her to (mainly) be wearing something different then what she was in the last game. I think it's too weird to see Liara in an Alliance outfit and takes away from the idea that this is all the races working together, not an Alliance Op. The red/black version of her coat might have been interesting but I have a hard time justifying why she'd switch from one jacket to another to go into battle (don't wanna get it dirty with blood stains?).

And I'm still peeved that they don't wear what you assign them while they're on the Normandy. But BW seems to do this across all their games. Still, annoying...

I prefer the white heavy armor and the phantom armor, which I think comes from "From Ashes".  I both really like how those 2 armors look and prefer the power recharge speed they provide as opposed to power damage on the others.  Can't say I really have a preference between the two as they are both stylish and function, though I might give a slight nod to the phantom armor because it is more distinctive.

Interesting thing is, everything else on the page I found this is in-game (or in the artbook). And this looks like it's an actual in-game model, not artwork (like you see in the artbook). It's the only one I noticed that is missing, which is curious.

That would be a good thought except for the fact that Liara herself says that she knew it was really Shepard the moment she touched Shepard on Illium. Her distance in ME2 on Illium is partly because of the whole Shadow Broker thing, partly because the Asari government is spying on her as we learn from Aethyta in ME3, partly because she's spent the previous two years mourning Shepard and partly because Liara is afraid that Shepard is going to hate her for turning Shep's body over to Cerberus. There isn't really any reason to wonder why she is distant in ME2 any more since we get almost all of this directly from Liara in ME2 the only thing we don't know until ME3 is that it's Aethyta spying on her for the Matriarch's. We may not agree with the choice the writer's made in order to keep Liara off the Normandy in ME2 but at least those choices led to LotSB and guaranteed that Liara would be alive for ME3 which granted her the most content and dialogue in the game of any of the squad mates.

I do agree about ME3 though, Shepard and Liara both have jobs to do for the war, they can't realistically spend every moment together. Shepard is obviously the best choice to try to bring the galaxy together to fight the Reapers and Liara is really the best choice aboard the Normandy to help coordinate the building of the Crucible, and that's before you even add in the fact that she's the Shadow Broker and has been using her network to gather resources and intel to help in the war against the Reapers since before the war started. Now she just has them helping to find supplies and people to help build the Crucible as well as actually helping to make sense of the blueprints. Liara is definitely a private person and she seems to have trouble at times even showing her emotions to Shepard. Liara seems more the type to bury herself in work when her emotions are getting the best of her. Which is probably why it's only after Thessia that we really see Liara lose her cool and really need to lean on Shepard.

Yes it was a bit annoying that a lot of the conversations didn't acknowledge Liara's relationship with Shepard but the actual storyline of the game is always going to take precedence over the optional romance content.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a retcon. I wouldn't be certain BW had this in mind when they wrote the ME2 scenes. That being said, she could have had doubts. Either way, she comes to terms with things relatively quickly (if you LotSB straight away). I mean, how would you react in that set of circumstances? But yeah, that line does put a crinkle in my idea.

But we agree on Liara's general mode of coping: throwing herself into her work. I think it's how she coped when on digs (and not having friends/family around) and how she's coped since, just the work has changed. Aside: I roleplay that my Shepard is similar, in that she lost her family and friends on Mindoir. She throws herself into her duty to cope. Never had any lasting relationships. Liara's fascination with her in ME1 flattered her and she felt a connection with Liara's isolation. You know the rest, romance grew from there. True love. <3

I think everything Bioware has done with Liara since vanilla Illium has been an attempt to retcon that meeting!

I do agree that such a coping mechanism would be characteristic of Liara, but I really wish she showed a bit more emotion in ME3. I do get the fact that Liara's character has evolved from ME1, having spent two years mourning Shepard and plotting revenge, and in my opinion, LotSB portrayed her beautifully. She was a different person than before, but underneath all that, we could still see glimpses of ME1 Liara, and after she and Shepard defeat the Shadow Broker, that becomes apparent. I personally think it was just the right balance.

I felt like most of the time in ME3 she abruptly ends any kind of romantic interaction with Shepard. There is a war going on, and she does have a job to do, but I'll be honest and say that in some scenes in ME3 I didn't like how she was handled, and Ali Hills' occasional inanimate voice work doesn't do Liara much justice. I do think that the platonic scenes that everyone gets in ME3 were all well done, like Liara's breakdown after Thessia and her fight with Javik, for example, but the romance-exclusive ones, apart from the love scene and the goodbye scene on Earth, desperately need brushing up. But that's just what I think.

I still REALLY wish that I could comfort Liara after Thessia. It isn't in character for my Shepard to just get Liara back to work. My Shep saw everything taken away from her on Mindoir (and again on Earth, to an extent). She just saw that happen for the woman she loves. You think there'd be a hug or something. Although, maybe that's just me pushing my expectations. Maybe my Shep knows that is how Liara copes, through work. Although, it'd be nice to see them remove the need to bury themselves in work/duty and turn to eachother to cope (although that happens at times, especially later on).

Anyway the "forcing" claims against Liara are two-fold. First people feel weird that Liara still cares for Shepard even if they've told her off. Second people feel Bioware themselves is pushing Liara on them due to the abundance of her content and the scarcity of other LI content. They're related of course.

I have 3 save files in which I've romanced Tali,Liara and Jack. Liara dose seem like the default choice even though I like Jack more.Although in the save where I "cheated" on her with Jack (if there ever was an excuse for cheating dieing and coming back to life is it) and tell Liara it's over she's takes it with stride after one line of dialouge , like nothing ever happened.

I think it's because in me3 all the non-me1 romance options are left wanting (doubt that's a coincidence) and Liara seemingly finds herself in your cabin more then once even if you didn't romance her. There seems to be a tremendous disparity between the attention Liara receives and me2 LI's.(Tali aside)

Still not a reason to dislike Liara , just EA who likely pushed Bioware to spread the other LI's content thin so they could rush the game or work on multiplayer content.

The white armor. I think there's another with the Alliance logo and some sort of pinkish armor with a headband. Didn't much like the design for the Alliance armor and I'd prefer the other to be some other colour.

I like the idea of Liara going out in armor so I'm glad there are choices. There's a war going on out there after all.

P.S. wouldn't it be nice if Shep & Liara could sometimes just bring something for each other when they drop by?

I give Liara the Alliance outfit. Also, I like that Liara, Ash/Kaidan and James don't wear what you gvie them on the ship, but it would be nice if the others did since they wear their combat gear on the ship (I know this is true for Liara as well, but the SB outfit is pretty much her out of combat gear for me).

Also, I'm disappointed nobody responded to what I said about the Datapad app. Is it just that everyone knew this already and I'm way behind or what?

I don't play ME like Final Fight (or Final Fantasy, for that matter). :P

I think since I decide Shepard's sex, appearance, history, class, abilities, relationships and almost every piece of dialogue (or, at least decision), that I've come to identify myself with the character. Especially my canon ones (especially especially my femshep/Liara one, even though I'm a dude). But I do alternate between Shep/I. I think there are times where BW's writing diverges from what I would do/say, at other times it allows me to do/say exactly what I want. I guess a way of thinking of it might be: it's me, in that situation.

I do the same with Skyrim. I see the character as me, not 'the Dragonborn'. And that game's narrative is even less personalised.

OT: This is where the whole argument against BW's claims that ME is their art. Since so much of the magic and art of the series totally relies on the player's relationship, involvement and immersion with the game. I'd say my enjoyment of ME is based as much on what I put in, as what  BW did.

I pretty mcuh picked default right of the bat, and for me I always saw it as just 'play the good shep' or play the 'bad' shep. I'm glad there is finally an iconic looking femshep who Ican just pick and playthrough, like I would an FF game.

I tried to RP it but I just have been playing FF  games for over a decade, and I'm too set in my ways. I tried to RP it but it got frustrating as hell because It just diden't work for me. I played Shep as I would've Tidus/Cloud/Leon/Claude/ect. I lead the character through the game to get their story.

If you want an exceptional  bittersweet ending, then play or youtube FFX.
