Probably true, Yuqi, which is maybe why it's for the best that they left the survival "ambiguous" at the end. Of course, that hasn't stopped me from assuming a Mega-Happy Ending™ for all headcanon purposes!

Much as it pains me to admit, I understand why they didn't show anything after the ending of the Reapers.  There's just too much that would be personal to each Shepard for them to satisfy any significant portion of the fanbase.

I think what the endings should have done, and what the EC should do, is leave the characters in a state that allows for interpretation and follows from the narrative. For example, in having Shepard and the Alliance rescue the crew of the Normandy you could show a reunion scene with the LI (if it's an ME2 LI, then maybe a different reunion scene on Earth) and have a scene where Shep/LI talk about making good on the plans they discussed earlier in the game. So, for Shep/Liara that would be settling down and having kids. That would still allow the play to imagine how they like: where they settled down; how many kids they had; how their relationship went; what work, if any, the got upto; how Shepard coped with the war; how they addressed cultural differences, etc.

What the endings did, and what I'm worried the EC will do (if they have Shepard die on every ending), is they left the characters in a situation where none of those futures are a possibility. Which is why we were all so upset.

Besides the characters, though, I think it's possible to give more concrete explanations on what happened to the various species, fleets, council, Citadel, relays, etc.

About Shepard and PTSD.

Shepard is under more stress than anyone in history. Look at how much Obama has aged and that is just with responsibility over 250,000,000 people in peace time with no threat of war. And his administration, and nation, will survive his death. Shepard has the survival of the entire galaxy on her/his shoulders. They not only have to win every battle but survive (who can replace them and do what must be done?). They're against the clock and no that every minute they waste millions die. They saw their homeworld ravaged (and their loved one's, if you're romancing Liara). Every decision they make effects the fates of entire species. And there is also the personal pressure of wanting to survive and wanting loved ones to survive. Imagine Shep/Liara (or any LI, really): do you take Liara with you to maximize your time together? Or do you leave her behind to be safe? Or would she be safer with you? There is also the stress of dying and being rebuilt and being unsure what you really are anymore.

I think, if Shepard survives the war, they would want to take a break from all those worries. They would be exhausted. And if their LI survived, they finally have a chance at peace, love and happiness (which my Mindoir-surviving femshep has never had). And I LOVE the idea of Liara helping Shepard through the process, with the melding and whatnot. That's beautiful.

Shepard dosen't die in every ending because the destroy ending sets a flag. Honestly, I wasn't that upset with the endings in the first place.*Shrugs*

The best example of a mental disorder in a Video game was FFVII.But some of you might be too young to remember that.

The bolded part for emphasis there. If they would have had just that part in the "Deep Breath" ending I would have been able to overlook the poor writing in the rest of the ending. It would have allowed the player to see that a happy ending was actually possible and then allowed them to "speculate" on what happens next. I don't think most of us would have complained about seeing just that part of it because that would have allowed us to imagine the rest, if/where they retire, if/when they have kids, how long Shepard lives and other fluffy stuff on that. The only other thing I would have liked to see is some other kind of cutscene, either a DAO style slide or a narrated picture that said something about how they were able to reverse engineer the Reaper FTLs that allowed the fleets to return to their homeworlds in short oder.

I can understand what they tried to do with the PTSD thing but like adneate said they just didn't protray it correctly. They tried to make the dream sequence flesh that part out but they ruined it with using the character model that is the Starbrat. If they would have shown Shepard trying to save various members of her crew, people that she is familiar with and either loves or cares for as family, I think the scenes would have been much more powerful. They just didn't do a very good job with it was all.

Hearing VS whisper and hearing everyone who dies during ME3 in the dreams, was more then enough for me to understand that Shepard is slowly breaking down.
But I agree the Starchild was more then confusing, because they use it as an avatar for the Citadel AI. Not good at all.

A. kick the Starchild out of the dream or B (what I would have wanted), let this Citadel AI use the image of your LI.
They clearly wanted with the dreams and the child in the beginning, to create a emotional connection for the avatar in the end.
Why not use the LI as an avatar? People are super attached to them. On the other hand, I often asked myself if BW created ME3 more with the new audiance in mind and didn't focus too much on the people who played both games.
I don't know.

You know I was wondering that too, then I remembered some of the quotes from the devs that stated that ME3 is a good place to start, even if you haven't played the other 2. At the time I was kindaImage IPB, but now I think they really messed up not going after the target audience like they should have. The target audience being all of the players that make up their fanbase over the last 2 games not "new players". Honestly I'm still trying to figure out why they went that route other than to release a game that they could indulge in their "artistic vision" and not be called out on it.

I would have rather seen the Catalyst avatar be Avina to be honest. I would have been somehow fitting and I might have been able to believe the idea behind the catalyst than having Starbrat.

Has anyone noticed that if you wait a little bit after Liara's time capsule scene, the fish in your fish tank start to go crazy and fly around your room?

Honourable discharge. Time to settle down and enjoy life. At least,
that's how I see it.
I agree here a hundred percent.
After what Shepard has done, I don't expect anyone to even dare ask
him/her help with something that does not involve an imminent war, which
I hope will not be happening. He/she has earned all the time in the
world to simply enjoy the galaxy he/she just saved.

To be honest, once things calmed down a bit, I'd expect pretty much everybody who is either in politics or in the media to come after Shep for all sorts of favours, etc.
I mean s/he's most probably the most prominent figure in the galaxy at that point. The hero everybody looks up to (or fakes it at least because it's the expected thing to do). I'm sure many, many people would like and try to profit from that somehow, though certainly not all out of "evil" motives.

And personaly, I can't see my (canon) Shep just settling down for the rest of her life. For a time, certainly, to heal and collect herself after the war, to be with Liara and maybe start a family.
But once there was some sort of calm, "routine" life kicking in after a couple of years I think she'd become more and more restless and would start looking for new challenges. You don't choose and make it through that career like Shep did if you're not a bit driven somehow. And that won't just vanish.
I'm not sure what she'd do though, nothing too dangerous probably (Liara wouldn't let her :P) and nothing in politics (too much words, too little action).
Maybe she'd go back to the military as figurehead and trainer for the N7 program or something ...

I've this thought actually and that Shep and Liara could kill two birds with one stone. Settle down on Thessia and Shep could actually act as a Alliance specialist to reform the Asari military. They can't fall back to the old structure
especially since there definitely will be more conflicts to come (more so if the genophage is cured which my canon Shep did do).

The whole PTSD thing is so weak and so poorly done it was just asking people to think it was indoctrination, otherwise we have to accept the reality that BioWare thinks we're supposed to be torn up about some mush faced little brat that we didn't even see die.

I thought the dreams themselves was a good idea, running through some creepy forest while Shepard hears the whispers of the ones he couldn't save was decent enough for me. The problem arrived with their constant focus on the kid. I actually had nothing against the kid on Earth, I did however start to hate it when he constantly showed up again in the dreams and my last conversation was with the stupid starchild.

No. For many reasons.... I don't want to go into details, but they could make me happy with an Illium DLC. ^.^

An MMO? Why don't they just make the next installment of Mass Effect a pinball machine. It would alienate their mission statement and fanbase just as well. Plus, be cheaper in the process.

Redemption's Liara? She wasn't that much of a Liara to be honest.
I guess she will crush whole armies again with biotics by herself. Then in the game she gets knocked down all the time because she only has 250 hp.

But Sylvia is there so it might be just great.

Could you explain why you thought that we would? As for the question, no. Bioware has clearly demonstrated that either a) MMO can't possibly be fun or B) they can't make fun MMOs - I think it's the former because I think any subscription-based game is bound to fail (if you pay authors by the number of pages you'll get a phone book of China)
