To be fair Liara was not being malicious towards Ashley, she was simply being scientific. Which Ashley, being a more emotional person did not take kindly.

Ashley came across as over emotional in that scene for sure, but I feel like that's exactly what Liara was going for. Ashley was obviously annoyed and Liara said things to get a reaction from her. That way Ashley comes across as an emotional crazy lady and Liara comes across as understanding. Maybe I'm reading too much into it though.

It is possible, but I don't think that was how it is meant, I can't see Liara consciously agitating someone to look good, especially in the first game.

I simply felt she was taking a "logical" stance to the whole situation, at this point Liara is still very much a scientist and all that with strong feelings and emotions, love in particular, is still very new to her. As such it makes sense that she would behave more detached and analytical.
As the series progesees and her love for Shepard deepens she becomes progresively less scinetific and more considerally more emotional.

Besides Liara is hardly confrontational (the Shadow Broker not withstanding) so I can't see her as actively seeking to agitate Ashely.
She is in general, but in the first game especially, very honest and neither malicious or manipulative so I think she was simply stating things the way she saw them at that point.

Exactly - and keep in mind, Liara is an Asari, not a human, so she has a very different perspective. I don't think she was being sarcastic or intentionally trying to get under Ashley's skin - she was just trying to explain what was going on, analyzing things in a scientific way because that's all she really knew how to do.

And she didn't even seem angry or hostile! It was Ashley the one who was mad and raging and being all mean and nasty.

In that confrontation, Liara simply spoke her mind, was honest about it, and wanted a clear answer to the situation, which is completely understandable, since Shepard at that point is supposedly playing both sides, which is not fair to either her or Ashley. She didn't say anything hostile to Ashley throughout the entire discussion, and she didn't even need to reply to her attacks if Ashley hadn't started them.

Even then Liara kept her cool and was understanding and patient. One of the many reasons I had grown to like her for when I was playing ME1 for the first time. She handled the situation very well, even with the fact that she did not have a lot of experience dealing with people. The same, honestly, can't be said for Ashley.

Yeah, Theo, seeing Liara act all mature and collected while Ashley flew off the handles and got all jealous and spiteful really made me like Liara a lot more, it gave me something to compare her too and really appreciate her calm, intelligent nature.

I'll never understand people who say Liara comes across like a literal child when she's one of the most mature characters in the series, and that just shows off that part of her personality.

Agreed.

About the confrontation, is it possible to avoid it without having to tell Ashley "you are out of line" regarding her mentioning Shepard is interested in Liara.

I think you can avoid it if you just tell her that you are interested in Liara, instead of being coy about ti or something.

Thank you, will try that on my next playthrough, always hated that "fight" but have had problems avoiding it.

I'm one of those who thought her juvenile when I played ME 1. Posted Image  I never saw any of the interactions discussed because I have no maleShep. So the only ping pongs I saw was betwen Kaidan and Liara; which did not even froth into anything exciting even when Kaidan marched up to demand that femShep make a choice. Liara plainly did not want to fight over the  issue. However, this was not what made me think she's a kiddo; it was the initial 3 dialogues with her.

Wow, this is outstanding! I'm delighted to see just how many devoted fans are out there. I tend to think of myself as the biggest fan ever, but there truth is that there are so, so many like us out there, a lot of them talented like this one. It is truly saddening that most of them were probably let down. One can only hope that their love for Mass Effect persists through these difficult times!

Ha! Liara can be a bit of a itchbay sometimes. She was also pretty good at pressing Ashley's buttons in ME1 if Shep persues them both. Liara can be pretty manipulative when she wants to be.

Am I the only one who found that totally hot?  Liara weilding her capabilities and intellect like a pro.  *melts*

My Liara/FemShepard sims with their daughter.

Haha, the Sims is actually Mass Effect 4! Roleplay it as life after the Reaper war, technology level dropped back to the year ~2000 and they're stuck on Earth. :pinched:

I tried Diablo 3 with a guest pass but it was boring, like all the games I've recently tried. Mass Effect 3 seems to have killed my interest in games, what the hell?

And I went to see that Avengers movie a while ago. When Tony Stark listed the heroes of the movie, I expected him to finish the list with "...and Commander Shepard.".

-
I hate how the smilies list changes order each time, why can't they stay in the same order so I can just click it where I remember it was. Retake BSN! :P

Lol, your not the only one, Im pretty sure at some point during the Avengers I thought, oh Shep would biotic charge the crap outa you Loki....:pinched:.

EDIT: oh and with Diablo 3, I have it cause of the annual pass and it certainly brings back memories but I cant help but feel very Meh about it, nothing to do with no interest in games it just feels like theres something missing and I cant put a finger on it.

Just the way she drops words like jealous and hostile into the conversation seemed crafty to me. It was like she was calling Ashley jealous and hostile but without saying it outright. Liara is cleverer than Ashley and she uses that to her advantage.

Hmm, I am having quite some fun with Skyrim at the moment. Very uneventful and all and not comparable with ME but quite a lot of fun....alternatively I can recommend Portal 1 and 2. Those were fun!

Thirded. :)
Cant say my canon shep cared to much for her fangirlish ''fascination'' with shepard in ME1, drove my ren!Shep a little bonkers at times, not accustomed to that kind of attention - but moments where she actually (bravely) defended herself against a ruthless renegade remark or action (rachni, you owe liara BIG), or how she behaved with ash in both 1 and 3 - in those moments where she showed some backbone (intellectually not brutish) underneath that young, bumbling, slightly naive, scientist exterior...Shep didn't stand a chance, she was hooked.  Then came LotSB and... well, the rest is history.

I can't even tell what's going on in that. It looks like Liara merged with Zordon from Power Rangers? What?
