The reason I thought Liara looked different in LoTSB was because she was ambushed at her home, so she didn't really have time to do her usual cosmetic touches eg the whiter scalp, pink lipstick (maybe contact lenses for her eye's)
I just assumed her look in LoTSB was more her natural way of looking without cosmetics as I don't think Asari lips are natural pink and they have talked about letting the scalp go back to there natural blue (think that's from the Asari with the Krogan BF)
I could be wrong of course but that's what I assumed lol.
Maybe she didn't feel like putting on lipstick I dunno lol.
I don't think a physiological change would explain it as it too sudden and Liara probably would have said something but it's up to the developers to decide where who and why. I'm just giving what I think is logical explanation for the difference in her appearance.
Maybe we should ask via twitter to get some resolution on this lol.

I can come up with one explanation, but even that doesn't make sense. Her body is changing from maidan to matron. But at her age, it doesn't fit. Maybe we will get an answer. But I hightly doubt it.Ophiskc wrote...

Which I plan on doing. Responding to the bold. Not that our import Sheps from ME1-->ME2 didn't change. No more scars. So I suppose Liara changing again isn't too bad. I'm not digging the super white scalp. The rest I'm liking sorta. Why change it from the LotSB is what I don't get. WHY?!?!?!?!Ophiskc wrote...
This new model is not a complete disaster, but is very different from what was M1, M2 or Lotsb. I guess will look pretty weird when someone makes a video of Shep/Liara relationship all over the series
Shep change from M1 to M2, but there's a reason why at least, Shep skin got reconstructed completely after dying and makes sense that there's no more scars, and why they very much removed that option from the customization screen in M2
Liara's changes makes no sense in the other hand, except if that they come up with an ingame explanation about asaris changing when they're pregnant or something lol. We know is just a redesign, but they're redesigning her way too much in my opinion
I get why Shep lost their scars. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

That's kind of a funny explanation. But being her... boyfriend I suppose it is my Shepard's obligation to tell Liara she looks stunning without make-up already so she doesn't need to use it. If she doesn't take the advice there's always sabotage.
*Shepard barges into Liara's room, quickly disposing her scalp whitener thingy and her pink lipstick*
*10 minutes later Liara enters with Shepard now sitting on a table in the next room, eating some breakfast*
Liara: "Shepard, I can't seem to find my make-up anywhere, have you seen it?"
Shepard: "No I haven't. You sure you didn't run out yesterday?"
Liara: "I saved the last bit of scalp whitener, won't get a chance to shop until 1,5 months from now"
*Shepard quietly cheers*
Liara: "Sorry. Did you say something?"
Shepard: "Nothing honey. I'm afraid you'll just have to go without make-up for now:bandit:"

Um... well... she left her dull eye contacts and pink lipstick on Illium?ladyvader wrote...

Yeah the inconsistency is weird, but I would rather have her stay with the LotSB look then suddenly get her contacts and lipstick back.

i imagine liara's body could react to stress by showing early signs of aging: changes in skin colo and white dots on her scalp could be the asari equivalent of human gray hairs and wrinkles
in a very short time liara went from lonely scientist to frontline soldier and finally landed on the dark side of information dealing: i can imagine theres plenty of room for worrying

That sounds too farfetched to me and is certainly no excuse for the incosistency.Red Son Rising wrote...
i like how liara's look has evolved over the last 2 games. contrast is good tho, i dont like when her color palate is so limited features begin to wash out in a sea of blue [sayin that a lot recently]

does the logic behind the changes matter? of course not. but shepard has some pretty crazy canon surrounding the way the character transitioned from mass effect to ME2; a few stress marks on liara's head makes a lot more sense than redesigning a dead spectre's face
i prefer the changes given the alternative. a static model that doesnt change between three games over the course of a decade would look terrible: ill take LotSB liara over therum liara any day

exactly. in mass effect liara's initial look was clean, no make-up and no stress. by the middle of ME2 she's a real pro with some serious emotional scarring, showing her forced maturity with a few spots of gray, a lil color and some makeup works [imo]. i like that ME3 liara has some real serious looks, in mass effect she always played the innocent baby-face card

Considering the situation we found her, I find it difficult to assume that she was wearing make up in ME1.
If your refering to Therum, it's not to far fetch after all she didn't go to sleep at camp (or where ever she stayed before going to the dig site)then get trapped in the Prothean bubble shield thing.
Though why a archaeologist would wear make up to a dig site is a interesting question? We should remember though that it is game and some slight inconsistancy will occur if we pick apart every detail lol. Hopefully the developer/writers explain it some day.

Probably, the only reason Liara's skin was in M1 smoother is because the graphics of that game were not so breathtaking anyway, and the designers just didnt bother into working more on it because it would have been barely noticeable, they put more enfasis in the freckles and scalp coloring than the skin texture itself.
M2 Illium Liara i'm pretty sure is just the same M1 texture, but it looks different because of the better graphic engine of the game and the horrible lighting in her office. Originally she was barely in M2, she wasnt even a squadmember, so why bother changing her? the designers had better things to do at that time.
But in Lotsb that changed, she has plenty of screentime and became a squadmate, and the developers had plenty of time also, so her texture was rework into a high detailed one, wich turned out to be gorgeous
For me that they come up, again, with a new one for M3 makes no sense, she has a high quality face already, and this new one looks inferior

I'm glad Liara's more mature via ME2/LOTSB....but.... after replaying ME1 again.... there was just something so....cute about her originally.... and yeah I still love her... but to know what she becomes in 2 years.... I just..... I don't know.... I miss her bookwormish personality

also, from therum to lotsb nearly 3 years of action could have an affect on liara's appearance; compared to liara's former life as a lonely scientist id say thats plenty of time for stress to affect how she looks/ the logic makes sense even if you dont like the character model

obama's hair has completely changed color in the same amount of time [2007-present] that mass effect has been out. in game liara still has about a year less than obama on the clock but it still makes sense if stress has some kind of aging affect on most organic species
[edit] tryin to find smaller comparo pic, not havin much success

Now I noticed the screenshot of Liara in the latest ME3 combat trailer had a lot of lights on the buildings surrounding the battlefield. So to me it seems the entire white scalp Liara seemed to have in ME3 is purely caused by the lighting.
Now that we've got that settled, it's time to go back to complaining to BioWare to give Liara her vibrant blue eyes back./uploads_user/1070000/1069890/28024.gif

Edit:
Mostly he just said that we will have to wait for M3 and that she has that face for a reason, but that could mean anything, the reason can be that they wanted to make her more M1 look alike, that she's stressed, that she's becoming a matron, that she's being indocrinated, reasons are endless
