I will be beyond thrilled when this quarter is over. I fooled myself early on into thinking that I'd have enough time to write, but midterms crept up and hit me with a sneak attack. Coupled with deciding to scrap a nearly-complete Chapter 5 and the loss of a good page and a half of material a few days ago, this has not been a good month for me! : P

I haven't read any of Rae's fics yet, as I've tended to shy away from "popular" writers (gawd, how terribly hipster of me...) Taken was brief, but conceptually interesting. I may start on the ...Can Wait series when I have time.

 Yeah, you're one of the authors I'm waiting on lol. You left Returned at such a heartbreaking part, that I'm craving for something to follow it. But I know the feeling of RL stepping on your plans for fics. Best to get that wrapped up so you don't post something that comes off as distracted.

Personally too busy with writing a Shepard / Liara fan fiction story, so she's the primary center of attention for me, as she is most of the time I'm in Mass Effect mode!

True for me as well, have been writting fanfic each day the last week's time and Liara is constantly on my mind, feels wonderful Image IPB

Indeed it does, but it's also a pretty big challenge - especially when writing Liara. I really want to make her sound and act in a believable manner, really make her in-character - which is definitely harder than it sounds. The end result, though, gives me no small degree of satisfaction.

New Liara fanart from Ma-Rin :)

Never been the fondest of her Liaras, but she's occasionally on the mark. I thought she did a really nice job on this one :)

Also, on the topic of fan-fiction, I'm super happy that there's so much LiaraxFShep in the works. I read a bunch last night, and it's cool to see this thread's participants well represented  on Deviantart and fanfiction.net:)

I think the only things that really need a bit of adjustments are her nose and her crests, which seem slightly out of perspective to me.

But that said, a hell of a lot of people draw Liara differently than she looks in-game. A lot of fanart gives her more angular features than normal.

But yeah, mostly just the nose and some slight perspective issues. I still think it's really nice, but my standards are pretty low :P Anything Liara/Femshep that's relatively tasteful is greenlit in my books :)

I'm glad you're enjoying it!  But yeah, such a maddening confluence of events the past few weeks...  I haven't been idle, though!  I've been plotting out the next several chapters so that I will (hopefully) be able to avoid any moments where I'm partway through and decide to take things in a different direction.

It’s good, I like it! You should write more. I don’t really have any criticism, constructive or otherwise…perhaps on the second read. I’d have left a comment but don’t have a dA account.

Comments and FFN reviews are a tricky beast. From what I can tell, I seem to have around 400 regular readers, but only one person regularly leaves a chapter review/comment. I assume the others like it since they haven’t stopped reading, but you know…:crying::happy:

Thanks a lot, means something coming from one the authors I've been following avidly these last few weeks. I started it around 10pm last night, finished up around 1.45am and as I've always done, just kept typing, fleshing out the barebones idea I'd been mulling over since hitting the confrontation dialogue immediately after the Noveria debrief. It struck me as absurd that the game would be designed to react to the romance flags that way, and the characters were only doing what the game told them to, but you play the game in front of you, right? So I acted in character for Shepard and sent Kaidan away.

Then it occurred to me that Kira Shepard had taken one or two renegade options but mainly went paragon, so the thought of Liara ever finding out that Shepard had chosen her (or so Shepard thought) out of spite over Kaidan's insensitivity became the major hook for the story. Made sense in my head, anyway

Intrigued by the line about bone weave grafts ... I've always of a mind
that Shep would live past 120, considering the upgrades she received.
Too, there's Miranda Lawson who pronounced she had twice the lifespan of
a human due to her improved gentic makeup.. Wouldn't Cerberus
scientists deconstruct how she was created? Come to think of it, they
were probably the ones who created it. In which case, it could have been
used on Shep. And who's to say there wouldn't be more breakthroughs to
improve the human lifespan?

I'd need a good hook for a second or third fic, but I'd be looking for different subject matter. Dissecting that little idea left me feeling a bit cruel, given the portrayal of Shepard's reaction to Liara's discovery.

I'll be mulling a few things over, don't want this to be a flash in the pan

No, I didn't care for Taken. The whole pheromone marking thing...it bugs me because it's not really...consensual? Shepard doesn't even know what Liara did to her. This after mind melding is a wholly cooperative process and Liara can't do things Shepard doesn't want her to. It's also too possessive - and I find it a bit out of character for Liara.

That is, it makes her out to be a bit too...aggressive, I think. That kind of jealousy and snippy bickering is something the games reserve for the other LI's, and Liara usually holds herself to being better than that. I'm not saying she'd put up with them making moves on Shepard, but I think she'd go about clarifying things in a certain way, especially when it's because they simply don't realize Shepard isn't "available", as is portrayed in the story.

I didn't see it as something Liara consciously did to Shepard. There was nothing to ask permission about because she couldn't help it, it's part of asari biology. I honestly can't see anything possessive or aggressive about it, as it's not something that she did on purpose. It was just something that happened on its own and it was so normal to Liara that the need to explain it to Shepard didn't even cross her mind.

You've talked a lot about liking the fact that Liara is an alien, so I thought you'd like that marking idea too, because it's alien. Humans have pheromones too but not in a way we acknowledge them, they're indifferent to us.
One reason I really like it is because it could be used to write many awkward funny and cute fanfics.

FYI we are very much under the influence of pheromones (instant attraction to someone?) and hormones a lot of the time, and subconsciously. Just read taken, liked it a lot - very natural, though not so keen on fshep but hey... Liked the fact it's almost a recessive biological mechanism for an advanced species - good to know how far we've all come (or not in this case).

Agreed, I am constantly nervous when writting characters beyond Kaelis Shepard in fear of getting them wrong, Liara especially. I really love it when I feel like I manage to write something for those characters, particularly dialog and behavious that feels "right" Image IPB

I won't even look at anything that involves pairing Liara and Feron or any other NPC for that matter, the only pairing with Liara in my mind is with Shepard.

At least Liara/Feron makes sense in a setting where Shepard doesn't romance Liara (because he's a horrible monster). It's not as bad as things like Liara/Miranda, Liara/Jack, Liara/Wrex, etc. etc.

I second that, thank the goddess though that Liara being the kind hearted soul that she is didn't take comfort in the arms of that drell, makes me love her even more that the temptation was there and yet she remained faithful to Shep. Both were vunerable it could have easily happened and if Shep was romancing someone else don't know why though, these two would have been a nice couple. Eww Liara and Wrex poor girl he'd crush her to dust:sick:

On the subject of fanfictions I gotta admit I'm not a fan of the miranda and jack pairing, thumbing through the filters these two are quite popular as a couple, just doesn't do anything for me, almost on the same level of improbability as a Liara and Javik pairing *shudder*.

As someone who DOES headcanon Miranda/Jack I guess I should explain where I was convinced of it. The Convict and the Loyalist was basically what got it into my head and made it stick there.

Might not work for some people. That's ok but it works for me. I also think Vega has a crush on Cortez, heh.

said that, and yes. Liara should have been in front. Why do people seem
to be afraid to do a naked 3d Liara? Is it the blue nipples? Why are
there no unclothed Liaras?

Honest answer? Probably just Image IPB.
Here's something you probably know - the Liara and Shep model don't
actually have anything explicit modeled on them. So that takes...some
fan being willing to create it themselves. But Shepard is a human and
especially with ME3, has a smoother, flatter texture to her skin that's
not as detailed - it's likely easier to create a fully naked Shepard model than to do the same for Liara.

So
people have done it. To my knowledge, there's no such "complete" model
of Liara. I mean, think about the sheer amount of detail on her skin as
it is, it's incredible - and she's blue. It's not so easy to make a
naked Liara actually look good, if you get what I'm getting at.

That's my guess anyway. Not being an actual artist or modeller I could be wrong.

Also...I think it's probably a little easier to create a decent looking fully naked Shepard model in terms of between the legs because humans have hair. Asari are implied to be hairless. Making things look believeable and particularly good is therefore tricky when you can't just cover things up. Add that on top of the whole "blue alien" thing and it gets really complicated. Just a guess, but I think it makes a certain amount of sense.

Ok, getting difficult to dance around saying anything particularly crude here so I'll stop talking about this now. :P

Hey you know you love the show Esteban:P I believe Vega only has eyes for his protein shakes though:whistle:Speaking of Cortez did anyone else think Bioware handled that one badly in regards to how it was written. Felt like Sheploo was really taking advantage of a man obviously still in love with his dead husband, the whole thing came off creepy to me, just my opinion. Hell Liara had the good graces not to take advantage of Feron when he was vunerable, Sheploo show some restraint lol!

EDI : I believe I found something on your helmet, Shepard
Shepard : I already know about the crack, EDI.
Liara : I'm not sure this is a good position to be in.

Liara : To begin with, this marking ...
EDI : Shepard, this is serious.

You're doing better than me. I haven't thought about my other fics for so long that I actually need to read them again to figure out where the heck I left off. I made mental post-it notes, but it seems I've lost them.... Fortunately, I did write up another chapter for one and most of another chapter for the other, so I'm not going in blind. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go in a wildly different direction for one. The other won't be so bad since I'm following an episode....

EDIT: :D Just got home to check my fic stats. It's doing great! Such a nice boost to my confidence after not writing for so long.

So I know its a controversial topic but I'm still gonna ask it anyway.

When I get my new Shep to ME2, LotSB before or after the Suicide Mission? I'm just curious how others have played it and what they prefer.

I prefer after SM, the dialogue just seems better to me that way.
And if you need a roleplaying reason for seating on the info instead of giving it to Liara asap - just imagine that Shepard knows Liara well enough that (s)he knows she would run off after SB straight away, without waiting for Shepard to deal with the Collectors first. So because (s)he's worried about Liara's safety if she went ahead on her own, (s)he holds of giving Liara the info until (s)he can help her deal with the Broker.

I prefer before the SM, after Horizon. Because the Collector would be more careful to dare attack a human colony after that point. It will give Shep time to deal with others' loyalty missions including her/his loyalty mission which is LotSB IMO. And doing LotSB before SM will give Shep a lot of recourses to prepare for the SM.

I saw a screencap of freckleshep with Kaidan and it looks  unbalanced colourwise.

Cannon romance for freckleshep is Liara..everyone else looks visually inferior with freckleshep IMO.
